Abu al-Saib said I went to visit Abu Sa’ld al-Khudri, and while I was sitting I heard a movement under under his couch. When I looked and found a snake there, I got up. Abu Sa’ld said: what is with you? I said: Here is a snake. He said: what do you want ? I said: I shall kill it. He then pointed to a room in his house in front of his room and said: My cousin (son of my uncle) was in this room. He asked his permission to go to his wife on the occasion of the battle of Troops (Ahzab), as he was recently married. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم gave him permission and ordered him to take his weapon with him. He came to his house and found his wife standing at the door of the house. When he pointed to her with the lance, she said; do not make haste till you see what has brought me out. He entered the house and found an ugly snake there. He pierced in the lance while it was quivering. He said: I do not know which of them died first, the man or the snake. His people then came to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and said: supplicate Allah to restore our companion to life for us. He said: Ask forgiveness for your Companion. Then he said: In Madina a group of Jinn have embraced Islam, so when you see one of them, pronounce a waring to it three times and if it appears to you after that, kill it after three days.

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ صَيْفِيٍّ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى الْأَنْصَارِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي السَّائِبِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَتَيْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ،‏‏‏‏ فَبَيْنمَا أَنَا جَالِسٌ عِنْدُهُ،‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ تَحْتَ سَرِيرِهِ تَحْرِيكَ شَيْءٍ،‏‏‏‏ فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا حَيَّةٌ،‏‏‏‏ فَقُمْتُ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ:‏‏‏‏ مَا لَكَ ؟ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ حَيَّةٌ هَاهُنَا،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَتُرِيدُ مَاذَا ؟ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ أَقْتُلُهَا،‏‏‏‏ فَأَشَارَ إِلَى بَيْتٍ فِي دَارِهِ تِلْقَاءَ بَيْتِهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ ابْنَ عَمٍّ لي كَانَ فِي هَذَا الْبَيْتِ،‏‏‏‏ فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْأَحْزَابِ اسْتَأْذَنَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ،‏‏‏‏ وَكَانَ حَدِيثَ عَهْدٍ بِعُرْسٍ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَذْهَبَ بِسِلَاحِهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَتَى دَارَهُ فَوَجَدَ امْرَأَتَهُ قَائِمَةً عَلَى باب الْبَيْتِ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهَا بِالرُّمْحِ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَعْجَلْ حَتَّى تَنْظُرَ مَا أَخْرَجَنِي،‏‏‏‏ فَدَخَلَ الْبَيْتَ فَإِذَا حَيَّةٌ مُنْكَرَةٌ،‏‏‏‏ فَطَعَنَهَا بِالرُّمْحِ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ بِهَا فِي الرُّمْحِ تَرْتَكِضُ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَلَا أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا كَانَ أَسْرَعَ مَوْتًا الرَّجُلُ أَوِ الْحَيَّةُ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَتَى قَوْمُهُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَرُدَّ صَاحِبَنَا،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اسْتَغْفِرُوا لِصَاحِبِكُمْ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ نَفَرًا مِنَ الْجِنِّ أَسْلَمُوا بِالْمَدِينَةِ،‏‏‏‏ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ أَحَدًا مِنْهُمْ فَحَذِّرُوهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ إِنْ بَدَا لَكُمْ بَعْدُ أَنْ تَقْتُلُوهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُ بَعْدَ الثَّلَاثِ .

ابوسائب کہتے ہیں کہ میں ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آیا، اسی دوران کہ میں ان کے پاس بیٹھا ہوا تھا ان کی چارپائی کے نیچے مجھے کسی چیز کی سر سراہٹ محسوس ہوئی، میں نے ( جھانک کر ) دیکھا تو ( وہاں ) سانپ موجود تھا، میں اٹھ کھڑا ہوا، ابوسعید رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: کیا ہوا تمہیں؟ ( کیوں کھڑے ہو گئے ) میں نے کہا: یہاں ایک سانپ ہے، انہوں نے کہا: تمہارا ارادہ کیا ہے؟ میں نے کہا: میں اسے ماروں گا، تو انہوں نے اپنے گھر میں ایک کوٹھری کی طرف اشارہ کیا اور کہا: میرا ایک چچا زاد بھائی اس گھر میں رہتا تھا، غزوہ احزاب کے موقع پر اس نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اپنے اہل کے پاس جانے کی اجازت مانگی، اس کی ابھی نئی نئی شادی ہوئی تھی، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اسے اجازت دے دی اور حکم دیا کہ وہ اپنے ہتھیار کے ساتھ جائے، وہ اپنے گھر آیا تو اپنی بیوی کو کمرے کے دروازے پر کھڑا پایا، تو اس کی طرف نیزہ لہرایا ( چلو اندر چلو، یہاں کیسے کھڑی ہو ) بیوی نے کہا، جلدی نہ کرو، پہلے یہ دیکھو کہ کس چیز نے مجھے باہر آنے پر مجبور کیا، وہ کمرے میں داخل ہوا تو ایک خوفناک سانپ دیکھا تو اسے نیزہ گھونپ دیا، اور نیزے میں چبھوئے ہوئے اسے لے کر باہر آیا، وہ تڑپ رہا تھا، ابوسعید کہتے ہیں، تو میں نہیں جان سکا کہ کون پہلے مرا آدمی یا سانپ؟ ( گویا چبھو کر باہر لانے کے دوران سانپ نے اسے ڈس لیا تھا، یا وہ سانپ جن تھا اور جنوں نے انتقاماً اس کا گلا گھونٹ دیا تھا ) تو اس کی قوم کے لوگ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آئے، اور آپ سے عرض کیا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ سے دعا فرمائیے کہ وہ ہمارے آدمی ( ساتھی ) کو لوٹا دے، ( زندہ کر دے ) آپ نے فرمایا: اپنے آدمی کے لیے مغفرت کی دعا کرو ( اب زندگی ملنے سے رہی ) پھر آپ نے فرمایا: مدینہ میں جنوں کی ایک جماعت مسلمان ہوئی ہے، تم ان میں سے جب کسی کو دیکھو ( سانپ وغیرہ موذی جانوروں کی صورت میں ) تو انہیں تین مرتبہ ڈراؤ کہ اب نہ نکلنا ورنہ مارے جاؤ گے، اس تنبیہ کے باوجود اگر وہ غائب نہ ہو اور تمہیں اس کا مار ڈالنا ہی مناسب معلوم ہو تو تین بار کی تنبیہ کے بعد اسے مار ڈالو ۔

Narrated Abdur Rahman Ibn Abu Layla: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was asked about the house-snakes. He said: When you see one of them in your dwelling, say: I adjure you by the covenant which Noah made with you, and I adjure you by the covenant which Solomon made with you not to harm us. Then if they come back, kill them.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud: Kill all the snakes except the little white one which looks like a silver wand. Abu Dawud said: A man said to me: A white snake does not wind in its movement. If it is correct, that is a sign in it, if Allah wills.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If anyone kills a gecko with the first blow, such and such number of good deeds will be recorded for him, if he kills it with the second blow, such and such number of good deeds will be recorded for him less than the former; and if he kills it with the third blow, such and such number of good deeds will be recorded for him, less than the former.
