Narrated Muawiyah: Make intercession, you will be rewarded, for I purposely delay a matter so that you intercede and then you are rewarded. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If you make intercession, you will be rewarded.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْوَهْبِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَخِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ:‏‏‏‏ اشْفَعُوا تُؤْجَرُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنِّي لَأُرِيدُ الْأَمْرَ فَأُؤَخِّرُهُ كَيْمَا تَشْفَعُوا فَتُؤْجَرُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اشْفَعُوا تُؤْجَرُوا .

معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ سفارش کرو، اجر پاؤ گے، میں کسی معاملے کا فیصلہ کرنا چاہتا ہوں، تو اسے مؤخر کر دیتا ہوں، تاکہ تم سفارش کر کے اجر کے مستحق بن جاؤ کیونکہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے: سفارش کرو تم اجر پاؤ گے ۔
