Abdullah (bin Masud) told that when the evening came, the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم would say: we have come to the evening, and in the evening the dominion belongs to Allah: “Praise be to Allah; there is no god but Allah alone who has no partner”. The version of Jarir adds: Zubaid said that Ibrahim bin Suwaid said: There is no god but Allah alone who has no partner; to him belongs the dominion, to him praise is due, and He is omnipotent. O Allah! I ask thee for the good of what this night contains, and the good of what comes after it; and I seek refuge in Thee from the evil of what this night contains, and from the evil of what comes after it. My Lord! I seek refuge in Thee from indolence, the evil of old age or of disbelief. My Lord! I seek refuge in Thee from a punishment in Hell and a punishment in the grave. In the morning he said that also: we have come to the morning, and in the morning the dominion belongs to Allah. Abu Dawud said: Shubah transmitted from Salamah bin Kuhail, from Ibrahim bin Suwaid, saying: from the evil of old age. He did not mention the evil of disbelief.

حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ خَالِدٍ. ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ،‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا أَمْسَى أَمْسَيْنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ،‏‏‏‏ زَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَمَّا زُبَيْدٌ كَانَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏رَبِّ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ مَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ وَخَيْرَ مَا بَعْدَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ وَشَرِّ مَا بَعْدَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ وَمِنْ سُوءِ الْكِبَرِ أَوِ الْكُفْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ فِي النَّارِ وَعَذَابٍ فِي الْقَبْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا:‏‏‏‏ أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ قال أبو داود:‏‏‏‏ رَوَاهُ شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مِنْ سُوءِ الْكِبَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ:‏‏‏‏ سُوءَ الْكُفْرِ.

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جب شام کرتے تو یہ دعا پڑھتے تھے: «أمسينا وأمسى الملك لله والحمد لله لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له» ہم نے شام کی، اور ملک نے شام کی جو اللہ تعالیٰ کا ہے، تمام تعریفیں اللہ کے لیے ہیں، اللہ واحد کے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں ہے، اور نہ ہی کوئی اس کا شریک ہے۔ جریر کی روایت میں اتنا اضافہ ہے: زبید کہتے تھے کہ ابراہیم بن سوید کی روایت میں ہے «لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شىء قدير رب أسألك خير ما في هذه الليلة وخير ما بعدها وأعوذ بك من شر ما في هذه الليلة وشر ما بعدها رب أعوذ بك من الكسل ومن سوء الكبر أو الكفر رب أعوذ بك من عذاب في النار وعذاب في القبر» اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں ہے، وہ اکیلا ہے، اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں، اسی کے لیے ملک ہے، اسی کے لیے تمام تعریفیں ہیں، وہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے، اے رب! اس رات اور اس کے بعد کی رات کی بھلائی کا طلب گار ہوں، اور اس رات اور اس کے بعد کی رات کی برائی سے پناہ مانگتا ہوں، اے اللہ میں پناہ مانگتا ہوں سستی اور کاہلی سے، اور بڑھاپے، یا کفر سے یا غرور کی برائی سے، اے رب میں پناہ مانگتا ہوں آگ کے عذاب سے، قبر کے عذاب سے اور جب صبح ہوتی تو بھی یہی کہتے فرق صرف یہ ہوتا کہ «أمسينا وأمسى الملك لله» کے بجائے «أصبحنا وأصبح الملك لله» ہم نے صبح کی اور ملک نے صبح کی جو اللہ تعالیٰ کا ہے کہتے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اسے شعبہ نے سلمہ بن کہل سے، سلمہ نے ابراہیم بن سوید سے روایت کیا ہے اس میں «من سوء الكبر» ہے انہوں نے «من سوء الكفر» کا ذکر نہیں کیا ہے۔

Narrated A man: Abu Sallam told that he was in the mosque of Hims. A man passed him and the people said about him that he served the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He (Abu Sallam) went to him and said: Tell me any tradition which you heard from the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and there were no man between him and you. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: If anyone says in the morning and in the evening: I am pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, with Muhammad as Prophet, Allah will certainly please him.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Ghannam: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If anyone says in the morning: O Allah! whatever favour has come to me, it comes from Thee alone Who has no partner; to Thee praise is due and thanksgiving, '! he will have expressed full thanksgiving for the day; and if anyone says the same in the evening, he will have expressed full thanksgiving for the night.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم never failed to utter these supplications in the evening and in the morning: O Allah, I ask Thee for security in this world and in the Hereafter: O Allah! I ask Thee for forgiveness and security in my religion and my worldly affairs, in my family and my property; O Allah! conceal my fault or faults (according to Uthman's version), and keep me safe from the things which I fear; O Allah! guard me in front of me and behind me, on my right hand and on my left, and from above me: and I seek in Thy greatness from receiving unexpected harm from below me. Abu Dawud said: Waki said: That is to say, swallowing by the earth.

Narrated Daughter of the Prophet: AbdulHamid, a client of Banu Hashim, said that his mother who served some of the daughters of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم told him that one of the daughters of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said that the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to teach her saying: Say in the morning: Glory be to Allah, and I begin with praise of Him; there is no power but in Allah ; what Allah wills comes to pass and what He does not will does not come to pass; I know that Allah is Omnipotent and that Allah has comprehended everything in knowledge ; for whoever says it in the morning will be guarded till the evening, and whoever says it in the evening will be guarded till the morning.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If anyone repeats in the morning: So glory be to Allah in the evening and in the morning; to Him is the praise in the heavens and the earth, and in the late evening and at noon. . . . thus shall you be brought forth, he will get that day what he has missed; and if anyone repeats these words in the evening he will get that night what he has missed. Ar-Rabi transmitted it from al-Layth.

Narrated Abu Ayyash: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If anyone says in the morning: There is no god but Allah alone Who has no partner; to Him belong the dominions, to Him praise is due, and He is Omnipotent, he will have a reward equivalent to that for setting free a slave from among the descendants of Ismail. He will have ten good deeds recorded for him, ten evil deeds deducted from him, he will be advanced ten degrees, and will be guarded from the Devil till the evening. If he says them in the evening, he will have a similar recompense till the morning. The version of Hammad says: A man saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم in a dream and said: Messenger of Allah! Abu Ayyash is relating such and such on your authority. He said: Abu Ayyash has spoken the truth. Abu Dawud said: Ismail bin Jafar, Musa al-Zim'i and Adb Allah bin Jafar transmitted it from Suhail, from his father on the authority of Ibn 'A'ish.
