Translation

Narrated Qaylah daughter of Makhramah: She saw the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم sitting with his arms round his legs. She said: When I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم in such humble condition in the sitting position (according to Musa's version), I trembled with fear.

حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ،‏‏‏‏ وَمُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل،‏‏‏‏ قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَسَّانَ الْعَنْبَريُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَتْنِي جَدَّتَايَصَفِيَّةُ،‏‏‏‏ وَدُحَيْبَةُ ابنتا عليبة، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ مُوسَى:‏‏‏‏ بِنْتِ حَرْمَلَةَ وَكَانَتَا رَبِيبَتَيْ قَيْلَة بِنْتِ مَخْرَمَةَ وَكَانَتْ جَدَّةَ أَبِيهِمَا أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَنَّهَا رَأَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ الْقُرْفُصَاءَ،‏‏‏‏ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمُخْتَشِعَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ مُوسَى:‏‏‏‏ الْمُتَخَشِّعَ فِي الْجِلْسَةِ أُرْعِدْتُ مِنَ الْفَرَقِ.

قیلہ بنت مخرمہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے خبر دی ہے کہ انہوں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو دیکھا، آپ دونوں ہاتھ سے احتباء کرنے والے کی طرح بیٹھے ہوئے تھے تو جب میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو بیٹھنے میں «مختشع» اور موسیٰ کی روایت میں ہے «متخشع» ۱؎دیکھا تو میں خوف سے لرز گئی ۲؎۔

Amr bin al-Sharid quoted his father al-Sharid bin Suwaid as saying: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came upon me when I was sitting thus: having my left hand behind my back and leaning on the fleshy part of it, and said: Are you sitting in the manner of those with whom Allah is angry?

Abu Barzah said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم forbade sleeping before the night prayer and talking after it.

Jabir bin Samurah said: When the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم prayed the dawn prayer, he sat cross-legged where he was till the sun had come well up.

Abdullah (bin Masud) reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: Two persons should not talk privately ignoring the third, for that will grieve him.

Abu Salih said: I was sitting with my father and there was also a boy with him. He got up and then returned. So my father mentioned a tradition on the authority of Abu Hurairah from the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم saying: If anyone gets up from where he has been sitting and comes back to it, he has most right to it.
