Narrated Abdullah ibn ash-Shikhkhir: I went with a deputation of Banu Amir to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, and we said: You are our lord (sayyid). To this he replied: The lord is Allah, the Blessed and Exalted. Then we said: And the one of us most endowed with excellence and superiority. To this he replied: Say what you have to say, or part of what you have to say, and do not let the devil make you his agents.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَسْلَمَةَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبِي:‏‏‏‏ انْطَلَقْتُ فِي وَفْدِ بَنِي عَامِرٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ أَنْتَ سَيِّدُنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ السَّيِّدُ اللَّهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ وَأَفْضَلُنَا فَضْلًا وَأَعْظَمُنَا طَوْلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُولُوا بِقَوْلِكُمْ أَوْ بَعْضِ قَوْلِكُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا يَسْتَجْرِيَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ .
مطرف کے والد عبداللہ بن شخیر کہتے ہیں کہ   میں بنی عامر کے وفد میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس گیا، تو ہم نے عرض کیا: آپ ہمارے سید، آپ نے فرمایا: سید تو اللہ تعالیٰ ہے ۱؎ ہم نے عرض کیا: اور آپ ہم سب میں درجے میں افضل ہیں اور دوستوں کو نوازنے اور دشمنوں پر فائق ہونے میں سب سے عظیم ہیں، آپ نے فرمایا: جو کہتے ہو کہو، یا اس میں سے کچھ کہو، ( البتہ ) شیطان تمہیں میرے سلسلے میں جری نہ کر دے ( کہ تم ایسے کلمات کہہ بیٹھو جو میرے لیے زیبا نہ ہو ) ۔

Abdullah bin Mughaffal reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: Allah is gentle, likes gentleness, and gives for gentleness what he does not give for harshness.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: Al-Miqdam ibn Shurayh, quoting his father, said: I asked Aishah about living in the desert. She said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to go to the desert to these rivulets. Once he intended to go to the desert and he sent to me a she-camel from the camel of sadaqah which had not been used for riding so far. He said to me: Aishah! show gentleness, for if gentleness is found in anything, it beautifies it and when it is taken out from anything it damages it. Ibn al-Sabbah said in his version: Muharramah means a mount which has not been used for riding.
