Narrated Abu Saeed al-Khudri: I was sitting in the company of the poor members of the emigrants. Some of them were sitting together because of lack of clothing while a reader was reciting to us. All of a sudden the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came along and stood beside us. When the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم stood, the reader stopped and greeted him. He asked: What were you doing? We said: Messenger of Allah! We had a reader who was reciting to us and we were listening to the Book of Allah, the Exalted. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم then said: Praise be to Allah Who has put among my people those with whom I have been ordered to stay. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم then sat among us so as to be like one of us, and when he had made a sign with his hand they sat in a circle with their faces turned towards him. The narrator said: I think that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did not recognize any of them except me. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم then said: Rejoice, you group of poor emigrants, in the announcement that you will have perfect light on the Day of Resurrection. You will enter Paradise half a day before the rich, and that is five hundred years.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْمُعَلَّى بْنِ زِيَادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الصِّدِّيقِ النَّاجِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ جَلَسْتُ فِي عِصَابَةٍ مِنْ ضُعَفَاءِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ بَعْضَهُمْ لَيَسْتَتِرُ بِبَعْضٍ مِنَ الْعُرْيِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَارِئٌ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْنَا إِذْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَامَ عَلَيْنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَكَتَ الْقَارِئُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَصْنَعُونَ ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّهُ كَانَ قَارِئٌ لَنَا يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكُنَّا نَسْتَمِعُ إِلَى كِتَابِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي مَنْ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَصْبِرَ نَفْسِي مَعَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسْطَنَا لِيَعْدِلَ بِنَفْسِهِ فِينَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ بِيَدِهِ:‏‏‏‏ هَكَذَا فَتَحَلَّقُوا وَبَرَزَتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَرَفَ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدًا غَيْرِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَبْشِرُوا يَا مَعْشَرَ صَعَالِيكِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ بِالنُّورِ التَّامِّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ تَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ قَبْلَ أَغْنِيَاءِ النَّاسِ بِنِصْفِ يَوْمٍ وَذَاكَ خَمْسُ مِائَةِ سَنَةٍ .

ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں میں غریب و خستہ حال مہاجرین کی جماعت میں جا بیٹھا، ان میں بعض بعض کی آڑ میں برہنگی کے سبب چھپتا تھا اور ایک قاری ہم میں قرآن پڑھ رہا تھا، اتنے میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشریف لائے اور ہمارے درمیان آ کر کھڑے ہو گئے، جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کھڑے ہو گئے تو قاری خاموش ہو گیا، آپ نے ہمیں سلام کیا پھر فرمایا: تم لوگ کیا کر رہے تھے؟ ہم نے عرض کیا: ہمارے یہ قاری ہیں ہمیں قرآن پڑھ کر سنا رہے تھے اور ہم اللہ کی کتاب سن رہے تھے۔ تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: سبھی تعریفیں اس اللہ تعالیٰ کے لیے ہیں جس نے میری امت میں ایسے لوگوں کو پیدا کیا کہ مجھے حکم دیا گیا کہ میں اپنے آپ کو ان کے ساتھ روکے رکھوں ۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہمارے درمیان میں آ کر بیٹھ گئے تاکہ اپنے آپ کو ہمارے برابر کر لیں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنے ہاتھ کے اشارے سے حلقہ بنا کر بیٹھنے کا اشارہ کیا، تو سبھی لوگ حلقہ بنا کر بیٹھ گئے اور ان سب کا رخ آپ کی طرف ہو گیا۔ ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں: تو میرے علاوہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کسی کو نہیں پہچانا، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اے فقرائے مہاجرین کی جماعت! تمہارے لیے قیامت کے دن نور کامل کی بشارت ہے، تم لوگ جنت میں مالداروں سے آدھے دن پہلے داخل ہو گے، اور یہ پانچ سو برس ہو گا ۱؎ ۔

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: That I sit in the company of the people who remember Allah the Exalted from morning prayer till the sun rises is clearer to me than that I emancipate four slaves from the children of Isra'il, and that I sit with the people who remember Allah from afternoon prayer till the sun sets is dearer to me than that I emancipate four slaves.

Abd Allah (bin Masud) said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلمsaid to me: recite Surat al-Nisa’. I asked: Shail I recite to you what was sent down to you ? He replied: I like to here it from someone else. So I recite (it) until I reached this verse “How then shall it be when We bring from every people a witness ?”. Then raised my head and saw tears falling from his eyes.

Umar said: The prohibition of wine came down when (the Quranic verse ) came down. It was made from five thing namely, grapes, dates, honey, wheat, barley. Wine is what infects (khamara) the mind. There are three things I wished that the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم would not leave us until he explained them fully to our satisfaction: (share of) grandfather, one who leaves no descendants or ascendants as hairs, and the details of usury.

Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: When the prohibition of wine (was yet to be) declared, Umar said: O Allah, give us a satisfactory explanation about wine. So the following verse of Surat al-Baqarah revealed; They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say: In them is great sin. . . . Umar was then called and it was recited to him. He said: O Allah, give us a satisfactory explanation about wine. Then the following verse of Surat an-Nisa' was revealed: O ye who believe! approach not prayers with a mind befogged. . . . Thereafter the herald of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم would call when the (congregational) prayer was performed: Beware, one who is drunk should not come to prayer. Umar was again called and it was recited to him). He said: O Allah, give us a satisfactory explanation about wine. This verse was revealed: Will ye not then abstain? Umar said: We abstained.

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: A man of the Ansar called him and Abdur Rahman ibn Awf and supplied them wine before it was prohibited. Ali then led them in the evening prayer, and he recited; Say: O ye who reject faith. He was confused in it. Then the following verse came down: O ye who believe! approach not prayers with a mind befogged until you can understand all that ye say.

Ibn Abbas said: The Quranic verse: ”O ye who believe, approach not prayer with minds befogged until you can understand all they say, ” and the verse: “They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say: In them is great sin and some profit for men, ” were repeated by the verse in Surat al-Ma’idah: ”O ye who believe, intoxicants and gambling, (dedication) stones.
