Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If anyone is given a legal decision ignorantly, the sin rests on the one who gave it. Sulayman al-Mahri added in his version: If anyone advises his brother, knowing that guidance lies in another direction, he has deceived him. These are the wordings of Sulayman.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ أَفْتَى. ح وحَدَّثَنَاسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي نُعَيْمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْأَبِي عُثْمَانَ الطُّنْبُذِيِّ رَضِيعِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ أُفْتِيَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ كَانَ إِثْمُهُ عَلَى مَنْ أَفْتَاهُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏زَادَ سُلَيْمَانُ الْمَهْرِيُّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَنْ أَشَارَ عَلَى أَخِيهِ بِأَمْرٍ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ الرُّشْدَ فِي غَيْرِهِ فَقَدْ خَانَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَذَا لَفْظُ سُلَيْمَانَ.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جس نے فتوی دیا اور سلیمان بن داود مہری کی روایت میں ہے جس کو بغیر علم کے فتوی دیا گیا۔ تو اس کا گناہ فتوی دینے والے پر ہو گا ۔ سلیمان مہری نے اپنی روایت میں اتنا اضافہ کیا ہے کہ جس نے اپنے بھائی کو کسی ایسے امر کا مشورہ دیا جس کے متعلق وہ یہ جانتا ہو کہ بھلائی اس کے علاوہ دوسرے میں ہے تو اس نے اس کے ساتھ خیانت کی۔

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: He who is asked something he knows and conceals it will have a bridle of fire put on him on the Day of Resurrection.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: You hear (from me), and others will hear from you; and people will hear from them who heard from you.

Narrated Zayd ibn Thabit: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: May Allah brighten a man who hears a tradition from us, gets it by heart and passes it on to others. Many a bearer of knowledge conveys it to one who is more versed than he is; and many a bearer of knowledge is not versed in it.

Sahl bin Saad reported the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: I swear on Allah, it will be better for you that Allah should give guidance to one man through your agency than that you should acquire the red ones among the camels.
