Narrated Kab ibn Malik: I said: Messenger of Allah, to make my atonement complete I should divest myself of my all property as sadaqah (alms) for Allah and His Messenger. He said: No. I said: The half of it. He said: No. I said: Then a third of it. He said: Yes. I said: I shall retain the portion I have at Khaybar.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَدِّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فِي قِصَّتِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي إِلَى اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْ أَخْرُجَ مِنْ مَالِي كُلِّهِ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ صَدَقَةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ فَنِصْفُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ فَثُلُثُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ فَإِنِّي سَأُمْسِكُ سَهْمِي مِنْ خَيْبَرَ.

کعب بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے اسی قصہ میں روایت ہے، وہ کہتے ہیں میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! میری توبہ میں یہ شامل ہے کہ میں اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی راہ میں اپنا سارا مال صدقہ کر دوں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: نہیں میں نے کہا: نصف صدقہ کر دوں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: نہیں میں نے کہا: ثلث صدقہ کر دوں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ہاں میں نے کہا: تو میں اپنا خیبر کا حصہ روک لیتا ہوں۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If anyone takes a vow but does not name it, its atonement is the same as that for an oath, if anyone takes a vow to do an act of disobedience, its atonement is the same as that for an oath, if anyone takes a vow he is unable to fulfill, its atonement is the same as that for an oath, but if anyone takes a vow he is able to fulfill, he must do so. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by Waki and others on the authority of Abdullah bin Saeed bin Abi al-Hind, but they traced it no farther back than Ibn Abbas.

Narrated Uqbah bin Amir: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: The atonement for a vow is the same as for an oath. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been transmitted by Amr bin al-Harith from Kab bin Alqamah, from Ibn Shamasah on the authority of Uqbah.

Narrated Ibn Umar: That Umar said: Messenger of Allah, I took a vow in pre-Islamic times that I would stay in the sacred mosque (Masjid Haram) as a devotion (Itikaf). The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Fulfill your vow.

Narrated Qays ibn Abu Gharazah: In the time of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم we used to be called brokers, but the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came upon us one day, and called us by a better name than that, saying: O company of merchants, unprofitable speech and swearing takes place in business dealings, so mix it with sadaqah (alms).
