Narrated Ibn Hawalah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: It will turn out that you will be armed troops, one is Syria, one in the Yemen and one in Iraq. Ibn Hawalah said: Choose for me, Messenger of Allah, if I reach that time. He replied: Go to Syria, for it is Allah's chosen land, to which his best servants will be gathered, but if you are unwilling, go to your Yemen, and draw water from your tanks, for Allah has on my account taken special charge of Syria and its people.

حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي بَحِيرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ خَالِدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَعْدَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي قُتَيْلَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ حَوَالَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ سَيَصِيرُ الْأَمْرُ إِلَى أَنْ تَكُونُوا جُنُودًا مُجَنَّدَةً جُنْدٌ بِالشَّامِ وَجُنْدٌ بِالْيَمَنِ وَجُنْدٌ بِالْعِرَاقِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ ابْنُ حَوَالَةَ:‏‏‏‏ خِرْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنْ أَدْرَكْتُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ عَلَيْكَ بِالشَّامِ فَإِنَّهَا خِيرَةُ اللَّهِ مِنْ أَرْضِهِ يَجْتَبِي إِلَيْهَا خِيرَتَهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ فَأَمَّا إِنْ أَبَيْتُمْ فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِيَمَنِكُمْ وَاسْقُوا مِنْ غُدُرِكُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَوَكَّلَ لِي بِالشَّامِ وَأَهْلِهِ .

عبداللہ بن حوالہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: عنقریب ایسا وقت آئے گا کہ تم الگ الگ ٹکڑیوں میں بٹ جاؤ گے، ایک ٹکڑی شام میں، ایک یمن میں اور ایک عراق میں ۔ ابن حوالہ نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! مجھے بتائیے اگر میں وہ زمانہ پاؤں تو کس ٹکڑی میں رہوں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اپنے اوپر شام کو لازم کر لو، کیونکہ شام کا ملک اللہ کی بہترین سر زمین ہے، اللہ اس ملک میں اپنے نیک بندوں کو جمع کرے گا، اگر شام میں نہ رہنا چاہو تو اپنے یمن کو لازم پکڑنا اور اپنے تالابوں سے پانی پلانا، کیونکہ اللہ نے مجھ سے شام اور اس کے باشندوں کی حفاظت کی ذمہ داری لی ہے ۱؎ ۔

Narrated Thabit ibn Qays: A woman called Umm Khallad came to the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم while she was veiled. She was searching for her son who had been killed (in the battle) Some of the Companions of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said to her: You have come here asking for your son while veiling your face? She said: If I am afflicted with the loss of my son, I shall not suffer the loss of my modesty. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: You will get the reward of two martyrs for your son. She asked: Why is that so, Messenger of Allah? He replied: Because the people of the Book have killed him.
