Narrated Abdullah ibn al-Harith ; or Uncle of Mujibah al-Bahiliyyah: The father or Uncle of Mujibah al-Bahiliyyah visited the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He then went away and came to him (again) after one year when his condition and appearance had changed. He said: Messenger of Allah, do you not recognize me? He asked: Who are you? He replied: I am al-Bahili who came to you last year. He said: What has changed you? You were looking well, then you were good in appearance? He said: I have only food at night since I departed from you. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Why did you torment yourself? Fast during Ramadan (the month of patience) and fast for one day every month. He said: Increase it for me, for I have (more) strength. He said: Fast two days. He again said: Increase it for me. He said: Fast three days. He again said: Increase it for me. He said: Fast during the inviolable months and then stop; fast during the inviolable months and then stop; fast during the inviolable months and then stop. He indicated by his three fingers, and joined them and then opened them.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي السَّلِيلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُجِيبَةَ الْبَاهِلِيَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهَا أَوْ عَمِّهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ. فَأَتَاهُ بَعْدَ سَنَةٍ وَقَدْ تَغَيَّرَتْ حَالُهُ وَهَيْئَتُهُ. فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَمَا تَعْرِفُنِي ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَنْ أَنْتَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَا الْبَاهِلِيُّ الَّذِي جِئْتُكَ عَامَ الْأَوَّلِ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا غَيَّرَكَ وَقَدْ كُنْتَ حَسَنَ الْهَيْئَةِ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا أَكَلْتُ طَعَامًا إِلَّا بِلَيْلٍ مُنْذُ فَارَقْتُكَ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لِمَ عَذَّبْتَ نَفْسَكَ ؟ ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صُمْ شَهْرَ الصَّبْرِ وَيَوْمًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ زِدْنِي فَإِنَّ بِي قُوَّةً. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ زِدْنِي. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ زِدْنِي. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صُمْ مِنَ الْحُرُمِ وَاتْرُكْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏صُمْ مِنَ الْحُرُمِ وَاتْرُكْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏صُمْ مِنَ الْحُرُمِ وَاتْرُكْ . وَقَالَ بِأَصَابِعِهِ الثَّلَاثَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَضَمَّهَا ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَهَا.

مجیبہ باہلیہ اپنے والد یا چچا سے روایت کرتی ہیں کہ وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئے پھر چلے گئے اور ایک سال بعد دوبارہ آئے اس مدت میں ان کی حالت و ہیئت بدل گئی تھی، کہنے لگے: اللہ کے رسول! کیا آپ مجھے پہچانتے نہیں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا: کون ہو؟ جواب دیا: میں باہلی ہوں جو کہ پہلے سال بھی حاضر ہوا تھا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کہا: تمہیں کیا ہو گیا؟ تمہاری تو اچھی خاصی حالت تھی؟ جواب دیا: جب سے آپ کے پاس سے گیا ہوں رات کے علاوہ کھایا ہی نہیں ۱؎ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اپنے آپ کو تم نے عذاب میں کیوں مبتلا کیا؟ پھر فرمایا: صبر کے مہینہ ( رمضان ) کے روزے رکھو، اور ہر مہینہ ایک روزہ رکھو انہوں نے کہا: اور زیادہ کیجئے کیونکہ میرے اندر طاقت ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: دو دن روزہ رکھو ، انہوں نے کہا: اس سے زیادہ کی میرے اندر طاقت ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تین دن کے روزے رکھ لو ، انہوں نے کہا: اور زیادہ کیجئے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: حرمت والے مہینوں میں روزہ رکھو اور چھوڑ دو، حرمت والے مہینوں میں روزہ رکھو اور چھوڑ دو، حرمت والے مہینوں میں روزہ رکھو اور چھوڑ دو ، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی تین انگلیوں سے اشارہ کیا، پہلے بند کیا پھر چھوڑ دیا ۲؎۔

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: The most excellent fast after Ramadan is Allah's month al-Muharram, and the most excellent prayer after the prescribed prayer is the prayer during night.

Narrated Uthman bin Hakim: I asked Saeed bin Jubair about fasting during Rajab. He said: Ibn Abbas told me that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to fast to such an extent that we thought that he would never break his fast ; and he would go without fasting to such and extent that he would never fast.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The month most liked by the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم for fasting was Sha'ban. He then joined it with Ramadan.

Narrated Muslim al-Qurashi: I asked or someone asked the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم about perpetual fasting. He replied: You have a duty to your family. Fast during Ramadan and the following month, and every Wednesday and Thursday. You will then have observed a perpetual fast.

Narrated Abu Ayyub: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: If anyone fasts during Ramadan, then follows it with six days in Shawwal, it will be like a perpetual fast.

Narrated Aishah, wife of Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to fast to such an extent that we thought that he would never break his fast, and he would go without fasting to such an extent that we thought he would never fast. I never saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم fast a complete month except in Ramadan, and I never saw his fast more in any month than in Sha'ban.
