Narrated Anas ibn Malik: A man from Banu Abdullah ibn Kab brethren of Banu Qushayr (not Anas ibn Malik, the well-known Companion), said: A contingent from the cavalry of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم raided us. I reached (for he said went) to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم who was taking his meals. He said: Sit down, and take some from this meal of ours. I said: I am fasting, he said: Sit down, I shall tell you about prayer and fasting. Allah has remitted half the prayer to a traveller, and fasting to the traveller, the woman who is suckling an infant and the woman who is pregnant, I swear by Allah, he mentioned both (i. e. suckling and pregnant women) or one of them. I was grieved for not taking the food of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.

حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هِلَالٍ الرَّاسِبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ سَوَادَةَ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِخْوَةِ بَنِي قُشَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَغَارَتْ عَلَيْنَا خَيْلٌ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَانْتَهَيْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ. فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اجْلِسْ فَأَصِبْ مِنْ طَعَامِنَا هَذَا. فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اجْلِسْ أُحَدِّثْكَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ وَعَنِ الصِّيَامِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى وَضَعَ شَطْرَ الصَّلَاةِ أَوْ نِصْفَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالصَّوْمَ عَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ وَعَنِ الْمُرْضِعِ أَوِ الْحُبْلَى وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ قَالَهُمَا جَمِيعًا أَوْ أَحَدَهُمَا . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَتَلَهَّفَتْ نَفْسِي أَنْ لَا أَكُونَ أَكَلْتُ مِنْ طَعَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

انس بن مالک ۱؎ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے (جو بنی قشیر کے برادران بنی عبداللہ بن کعب کے ایک فرد ہیں) وہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے گھوڑ سوار دستے نے ہم پر حملہ کیا، میں اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس پہنچا، یا یوں کہا کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی طرف چلا، آپ کھانا تناول فرما رہے تھے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: بیٹھو، اور ہمارے کھانے میں سے کچھ کھاؤ ، میں نے کہا: میں روزے سے ہوں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اچھا بیٹھو، میں تمہیں نماز اور روزے کے بارے میں بتاتا ہوں: اللہ نے ( سفر میں ) نماز آدھی کر دی ہے، اور مسافر، دودھ پلانے والی، اور حاملہ عورت کو روزہ رکھنے کی رخصت دی ہے ، قسم اللہ کی! آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دونوں کا ذکر کیا یا ان دونوں میں سے کسی ایک کا، مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے کھانے میں سے نہ کھا پانے کا افسوس رہا۔

Narrated Abu al-Darda: We went out along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم for some battle in intense heat, so much so that one of us placed his hand on his head, or placed his palm on his head, due to intense heat, No one of us fasted except the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and Abdullah bin Rawahah.

Narrated Salamah ibn al-Muhabbaq al-Hudhali: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If anyone has a riding beast which carries him to where he can get sufficient food, he should keep the fast of Ramadan wherever he is when it comes.

Narrated Abu Busrah al-Ghifari,: Jafar ibn Jubayr said: I accompanied Abu Busrah al-Ghifari, a Companion of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, in a boat proceeding from al-Fustat (Cairo) during Ramadan. He was lifted (to the boat), then his meal was brought to him. The narrator Jafar said in his version: He did not go beyond the houses (of the city) but he called for the dining sheet. He said (to me): Come near. I said: Do you not see the houses? Abu Busrah said: Do you detest the sunnah (practice) of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم? The narrator Jafar said in his version: He then ate (it).

Narrated Dihyah: Mansur al-Kalbi said: Dihyah ibn Khalifah once went out from a village of Damascus at as much distance as it measures between Aqabah and al-Fustat during Ramadan; and that is three miles. He then broke his fast and the people broke their fast along with him. But some of them disliked to break their fast. When he came back to his village, he said: I swear by Allah, today I witnessed a thing of which I could not even think to see. The people detested the way of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and his Companions. He said this to those who fasted. At this moment he said: O Allah, make me die.
