Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: Fast is a shield ; when one of you is fasting, he should neither behave in an obscene manner nor foolishly. If a man fights or abuses him, he should say: I am fasting, I am fasting.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ صَائِمًا فَلَا يَرْفُثْ وَلَا يَجْهَلْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنِ امْرُؤٌ قَاتَلَهُ أَوْ شَاتَمَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلْيَقُلْ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ .
ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: روزہ ( برائیوں سے بچنے کے لیے ) ڈھال ہے، جب تم میں کوئی صائم ( روزے سے ہو ) تو فحش باتیں نہ کرے، اور نہ نادانی کرے، اگر کوئی آدمی اس سے جھگڑا کرے یا گالی گلوچ کرے تو اس سے کہہ دے کہ میں روزے سے ہوں، میں روزے سے ہوں ۔

Narrated A Companion of the Prophet: Abu Bakr ibn Abdur Rahman reported on the authority of a Companion of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم: I saw the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم commanding the people while he was travelling on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah not to observe fast. He said: Be strong for your enemy. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم fasted himself. Narrated Abu Bakr: A man who narrated his tradition to me said: I have seen the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم in al-Arj pouring water over his head while he was fasting, either because of thirst or because of heat.

Abu Dawud said: The narrator Khalid al-Hadhdha' transmitted a similar tradition from Abu Qilabah through a different chain of narrators mentioned by the narrator Ayyub.
