Ubayy bin Kaab said: The verdict that water (bath) is necessary when there is emission given by the people (in the early days of Islam) was due to the concession granted by the Messenger of Allah in the beginning of Islam. He then commanded to take a bath (in such a case). Abu Dawud said: By Abu Ghassan is meant Muhammad bin mutarrif.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ الْبَزَّازُ الرَّازِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مُبَشِّرٌ الْحَلَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ أَبِي غَسَّانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَنّ الْفُتْيَا الَّتِي كَانُوا يَفْتُونَ أَنَّ الْمَاءَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ كَانَتْ رُخْصَةً رَخَّصَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فِي بَدْءِ الْإِسْلَامِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِالِاغْتِسَالِ بَعْدُ .

سہل بن سعد رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ابی بن کعب رضی اللہ عنہ نے مجھ سے بیان کیا ہے کہ بعض صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم جو یہ فتوی دیا کرتے تھے کہ منی کے انزال ہونے پر ہی غسل واجب ہوتا ہے، یہ رخصت رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ابتدائے اسلام میں دی تھی پھر اس کے بعد آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے غسل کرنے کا حکم دیا۔

Abu Hurairah reported the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: when anyone sits between the four parts of a woman and the parts (of the male and female) which are circumscised join together, then bath becomes obligatory.

Aba Saeed al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: water (bath) is necessary only when there is seminal emission. And Abu Salamah followed it.

Anas reported: One day the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had sexual intercourse with (all) his wives with a single bath. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted through another chain of narrators.

Narrated Abu Rafi: One day the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had intercourse with all his wives. He took a bath after each intercourse. I asked him: Messenger of Allah, why don't you make it a single bath? He replied: This is more purifying, better and cleaning. Abu Dawud said: The tradition narrated by Anas is more sound that this tradition.

Abdullah bin Umar reported: Umar bin al-Khattab said to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم that he became sexually defiled at night (asking him what he should do). The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: You should perform ablution and wash your penis and then sleep.

Aishah reported: when the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم intended to sleep while he was sexually defiled, he would perform ablution as he did for prayer.
