Abdullah bin Hunain said Abdullah bin Abbas and Miswar bin Makhramah differed amongst themselves (on the question of washing the head in the sacred state) at al Abwa. ‘Ibn Abbas said A pilgrim in the sacred state (while wearing ihram) can wash his head. Al Miswar said A pilgrim in the sacred state (wearing ihram) cannot wash his head. Abdullah bin Abbas then sent him (Abdullah bin Hunain) to Abu Ayyub Al Ansari. He found him taking a bath between two woods erected at the edge of the well and he was hiding himself with a cloth (curtain). He (the narrator) said I saluted him. He asked Who is this? I said I am Abdullah bin Hunain. Abdullah bin Abbas has sent me to you asking you how the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to wash his head while he was wearing ihram. Abu Ayyub then put his hand on the cloth and removed it till his head appeared to me. He then said to a person who was pouring water on him: Pour water. He poured water on his head and Abu Ayyub moved his head with his hands. He carried his hands forward and backward. He then said I saw him doing similarly.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حُنَيْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ وَالْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ اخْتَلَفَا بِالْأَبْوَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ:‏‏‏‏ يَغْسِلُ الْمُحْرِمُ رَأْسَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ الْمِسْوَرُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَغْسِلُ الْمُحْرِمُ رَأْسَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَرْسَلَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ إِلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ فَوَجَدَهُ يَغْتَسِلُ بَيْنَ الْقَرْنَيْنِ وَهُوَ يُسْتَرُ بِثَوْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ هَذَا ؟ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حُنَيْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْكَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَسْأَلُكَ:‏‏‏‏ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَغْسِلُ رَأْسَهُ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَوَضَعَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ يَدَهُ عَلَى الثَّوْبِ فَطَأْطَأَهُ حَتَّى بَدَا لِي رَأْسُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لِإِنْسَانٍ يَصُبُّ عَلَيْهِ اصْبُبْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَصَبَّ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ حَرَّكَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ رَأْسَهُ بِيَدَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَقْبَلَ بِهِمَا وَأَدْبَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُهُ يَفْعَلُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .

عبداللہ بن حنین سے روایت ہے کہ عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما اور مسور بن مخرمہ رضی اللہ عنہما کے مابین مقام ابواء میں اختلاف ہو گیا، ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا: محرم سر دھو سکتا ہے، مسور نے کہا: محرم سر نہیں دھو سکتا، تو عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے انہیں ( ابن حنین کو ) ابوایوب انصاری رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس بھیجا تو آپ نے انہیں دو لکڑیوں کے درمیان کپڑے کی آڑ لیے ہوئے نہاتے پایا، ابن حنین کہتے ہیں: میں نے سلام کیا تو انہوں نے پوچھا: کون؟ میں نے کہا: میں عبداللہ بن حنین ہوں، مجھے آپ کے پاس عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بھیجا ہے کہ میں آپ سے معلوم کروں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم حالت احرام میں اپنے سر کو کیسے دھوتے تھے؟ ابوایوب رضی اللہ عنہ نے اپنا ہاتھ کپڑے پر رکھا اور اسے اس قدر جھکایا کہ مجھے ان کا سر نظر آنے لگا، پھر ایک آدمی سے جو ان پر پانی ڈال رہا تھا، کہا: پانی ڈالو تو اس نے ان کے سر پر پانی ڈالا، پھر ایوب نے اپنے ہاتھوں سے سر کو ملا، اور دونوں ہاتھوں کو آگے لائے اور پیچھے لے گئے اور بولے ایسا ہی میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو کرتے دیکھا ہے ۱؎۔

Nubaih bin Wahb brother of Banu Abd Al Dar said Umar bin Ubaid Allah sent someone to Aban bin Uthman bin Affan asking him (to participate in the marriage ceremony). Aban in those days was the chief of the pilgrims and both were in the sacred state (wearing ihram). I want to give the daughter of Shaibah bin Jubair to Talhah bin Umar in marriage. I wish that you may attend it. Aban refused and said I heard my father Uthman bin Affan narrating a tradition from the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying A pilgrim may not marry and give someone in marriage in the sacred state (while wearing ihram).

The aforesaid tradition has also been transmitted by Aban bin Uthman on the authority of Uthman from the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم in a similar manner. This version adds “And he should not make a betrothal”

Ibn Abbas said The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم married Maimunah while he was in the sacred state (wearing ihram).

Saeed bin Al Musayyib said There is a misunderstanding on the part of Ibn Abbas about the marriage (of the Prophet) with Maimunah while he was in the sacred state.

Ibn Umar said The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was asked as to which of the creatures could be killed by a pilgrim in the sacred state. He said there are five creatures which it is not a sin for anyone to kill, outside or inside the sacred area. The Scorpion, the Crow, the Rat, the Kite and the biting Dog.
