Narrated Saburah: Ar-Rabi ibn Saburah said on the authority of his father (Saburah): We went out along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم till we reached Usfan, Suraqah ibn Malik al-Mudlaji said to him: Messenger of Allah, explain to us like the people as if they were born today. He said: Allah, the Exalted, has included this Umrah in your hajj. When you come (to Makkah), and he who goes round the House (the Kabah), and runs between as-Safa and al-Marwah, is allowed to take off ihram except he who has brought the sacrificial animals with him.

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سَبْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بِعُسْفَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْمُدْلَجِيُّ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اقْضِ لَنَا قَضَاءَ قَوْمٍ كَأَنَّمَا وُلِدُوا الْيَوْمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى قَدْ أَدْخَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي حَجِّكُمْ هَذَا عُمْرَةً فَإِذَا قَدِمْتُمْ فَمَنْ تَطَوَّفَ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَ الْمَرْوَةِ فَقَدْ حَلَّ إِلَّا مَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ .

سبرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ نکلے یہاں تک کہ جب ہم عسفان میں پہنچے تو آپ سے سراقہ بن مالک مدلجی نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! آج ایسا بیان فرمائیے جیسے ان لوگوں کو سمجھاتے ہیں جو ابھی پیدا ہوئے ہوں ( بالکل واضح ) تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ نے تمہارے لیے عمرہ کو تمہارے حج میں داخل کر دیا ہے لہٰذا جب تم مکہ آ جاؤ تو جو بیت اللہ کا طواف اور صفا و مروہ کی سعی کر لے تو وہ حلال ہو گیا سوائے اس کے جس کے ساتھ ہدی کا جانور ہو ۔

Ibn Abbas said that Muawiyah reported to him I clipped some hair of the Prophet’s head with a broad iron arrowhead at Al Marwah; or (he said) I saw him that the hair of his head was clipped with a broad iron arrowhead at Al Marwah. The narrator Ibn Khallad said in his version “Muawiyah said” and not the word “reported”.

Ibn Abbas said that Muawiyah told him: do you not know that I clipped the hair of the head of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم with a broad iron arrowhead at al-Marwah? Al-Hasan added in his version: during his hajj.

Ibn Abbas said The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم raised his voice in talbiyah for ‘Umrah and his companions for Hajj.

Abdullah bin Umar said At the Farewell Pilgrimage the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم put on ihram first for ‘Umrah and afterwards for Hajj and drove the sacrificial animals along with him from Dhu Al Hulaifah. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم first raised his voice in talbiyah for ‘Umrah and afterwards he did so for Hajj; and the people along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did it first for ‘Umrah and afterwards for Hajj. Some of the people had brought sacrificial animals and others had not, so when the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came to Makkah, he said to the people. Those of you who have brought sacrificial animals must not treat as lawful anything which has become unlawful for you till you complete your Hajj; but those of you who have not brought sacrificial animals should go round the House (Kaabah) and run between Al Safa’ and Al Marwah, clip their hair, put off ihram, and afterwards raise their voice in talbiyah for Hajj and bring sacrificial animals. Those who cannot get sacrificial animals should fast three days during Hajj and seven days when they return to their families. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم then performed circumambulation when he came to Makkah first touching the corner then running during three circuits out of seven and walking during four and when he had finished his circumambulation of the House (Kaabah) he prayed two rak’ahs at Maqam Ibrahim, then giving the salutation and departing he went to Al Safa’ and ran seven times between Al Safa’ and Al Marwah. After that he did not treat anything as lawful which had become unlawful for him till he had completed his Hajj, sacrificed his animals on the day of sacrifice, went quickly and performed the circumambulation of the House (the Kaabah), after which all that had been unlawful became lawful for him. Those people who had brought sacrificial animals did as the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did.

Hafsah, wife of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, how is it that the people have put off their ihram and you did not put off your ihram after your ‘Umrah. He said I have matted my hair and garlanded my sacrificial animal, so I shall not put off my ihram till I sacrifice my sacrificial animals.

Abu Dharr used to say about a person who makes the intention of Hajj but he repeal it for the ‘Umrah (that will not be valid). This cancellation of hajj for ‘Umrah was specially meant for the people who accompanied the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.
