A mash transmitted this tradition saying: If religion were based on opinion, it would be more proper to wipe the under part of the feet than the upper. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم wiped over the upper part of his shoes. The narrator Waki said: I saw Ali perform ablution and wash the upper part of his feet, and say: Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم doing like this –and he narrated the tradition in full.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَوْ كَانَ الدِّينُ بِالرَّأْيِ لَكَانَ بَاطِنُ الْقَدَمَيْنِ أَحَقَّ بِالْمَسْحِ مِنْ ظَاهِرِهِمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ مَسَحَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ خُفَّيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَاهُ وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏بِإِسْنَادِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ أَرَى أَنَّ بَاطِنَ الْقَدَمَيْنِ أَحَقُّ بِالْمَسْحِ مِنْ ظَاهِرِهِمَا حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى ظَاهِرِهِمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ وَكِيعٌ:‏‏‏‏ يَعْنِي الْخُفَّيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَاهُ عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كَمَا رَوَاهُ وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو السَّوْدَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا تَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ ظَاهِرَ قَدَمَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْعَلُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ.

اس سند سے بھی اعمش سے یہی حدیث مروی ہے، اس میں ہے کہ علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: اگر دین ( کا معاملہ ) قیاس پر ہوتا تو دونوں قدموں کے نچلے حصے کا مسح ان کے اوپری حصے کے مسح سے زیادہ بہتر ہوتا، حالانکہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنے دونوں موزوں کے اوپری حصہ پر مسح کیا ہے۔ اور اسے وکیع نے بھی اعمش سے اسی سند سے روایت کیا ہے، اس میں ہے کہ علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: میں دونوں پیروں کے نچلے حصے کا مسح ان کے اوپری حصے کے مسح سے بہتر جانتا تھا، یہاں تک کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ان کے اوپری حصے پر مسح کرتے دیکھا۔ وکیع کا بیان ہے کہ لفظ «قدمين» سے مراد «خفين» ہے، وکیع ہی کی طرح اسے عیسیٰ بن یونس نے بھی اعمش سے روایت کیا ہے، نیز اسے ابوالسوداء نے ابن عبد خیر سے، انہوں نے اپنے والد سے روایت کیا ہے، وہ کہتے ہیں: میں نے علی کو دیکھا کہ انہوں نے وضو کیا تو اپنے دونوں پاؤں کے اوپری حصہ پر مسح کیا ۱؎ اور کہا: اگر میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ایسا کرتے نہ دیکھا ہوتا، پھر ابوالسوداء نے پوری روایت آخر تک بیان کی۔

Narrated Al-Mughirah ibn Shubah: I poured water while the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم performed ablution in the battle of Tabuk. He wiped over the upper part of the socks and their lower part. Abu Dawud said: I have been told that Thawr did not hear this tradition from Raja'.

Narrated Hakam ibn Sufyan ath-Thaqafi: When the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم urinated, he performed ablution and sprinkled water on private parts of the body. Abu Dawud said: A group of scholars agreed with Sufyan upon this chain of narrators. Some have mentioned the name of Sufyan bin al-Hakam, and others al-Hakam bin Sufyan.

A man from Thaqif on the authority of his father reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم urinate, and he sprinkled water on the private parts of his body.

Hakam or Ibn al-Hakam on the authority of his father reported: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم urinated; then he performed ablution and sprinkled water on the private parts of his body.

Uqbah bin Amir said: We served ourselves in the company of Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. We tended our camels by turn. One day I had my turn to tend the camels, and I drove them in the afternoon. I found the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم addressing the people. I heard him say: Anyone amongst you who performs ablution, and does it well, then he stands and offers two rak’ahs of prayer, concentrating on it with his heart and body, Paradise will be his lot by all means. I said: Ha-ha! How fine it is! A man in front of me said: The action (mentioned by the Prophet) earlier, O Uqbah, is finer that this one. I looked at him and found him to be Umar bin al-Khattab. I asked him: What is that, O Abu Hafs? He replied: He (the Prophet) had said before you came: If any one of you performs ablution, and does it well, and when he finishes the ablution, he utters the words: I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, He has o associate, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger, all the eight doors of Paradise will be opened for him; he may enter (through) any of them. Muawiyah said: Rabiah bin Yazid narrated this tradition to me from Abu Idris and the authority of Uqbah bin ’Amir.

Uqbah bin Amir al-JuhanI narrated this tradition from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم in a similar way. He did not mention about tending the camels. After the words “and he performed ablution well” he added the words: “he then raises his eyes towards the sky”. He transmitted the tradition conveying the same meaning as that of Muawiyah.
