Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to say: O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from four things: Knowledge which does not profit, a heart which is not submissive, a soul which has an insatiable appetite, and a supplication which is not heard.
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَخِيهِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْأَرْبَعِ:‏‏‏‏ مِنْ عِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمِنْ نَفْسٍ لَا تَشْبَعُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمِنْ دُعَاءٍ لَا يُسْمَعُ .
ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کہتے تھے: «اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الأربع: من علم لا ينفع، ومن قلب لا يخشع، ومن نفس لا تشبع، ومن دعا لا يسمع» اے اللہ! میں چار چیزوں سے تیری پناہ مانگتا ہوں: ایسے علم سے جو نفع بخش نہ ہو، ایسے دل سے جو تجھ سے خوف زدہ نہ ہو، ایسے نفس سے جو سیر نہ ہو اور ایسی دعا سے جو سنی نہ جائے یعنی قبول نہ ہو ۔
