Abu Saeed al-Khudri said: Marwan brought out the pulpit onEidd. He began preaching before the prayer. A man stood and said: You opposed the sunnah, O Marwan. You brought out the pulpit on theEidd, it was not brought out before: and you began preaching before the prayer. Abu Saeed al-Khudri said: Wh is this (man) ? They (people) said: So-and so son of so-and-so. He has performed his duty. I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: He who observes and evil deed should change it with his hand if he can do so; if he cannot do, (he should change it) then with his tongue; if he cannot do then (he should change it) with his heart, and that is the weakest degree of the faith.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ. ح وَعَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْرَجَ مَرْوَانُ الْمِنْبَرَ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَبَدَأَ بِالْخُطْبَةِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا مَرْوَانُ خَالَفْتَ السُّنَّةَ أَخْرَجْتَ الْمِنْبَرَ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُخْرَجُ فِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبَدَأْتَ بِالْخُطْبَةِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ هَذَا ؟ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَمَّا هَذَا فَقَدْ قَضَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَا عَلَيْهِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ رَأَى مُنْكَرًا فَاسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يُغَيِّرَهُ بِيَدِهِ فَلْيُغَيِّرْهُ بِيَدِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِلِسَانِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِقَلْبِهِ وَذَلِكَ أَضْعَفُ الْإِيمَانِ .

ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ مروان عید کے روز منبر لے کر گئے اور نماز سے پہلے خطبہ شروع کر دیا تو ایک شخص کھڑا ہوا اور اس نے کہا: مروان! آپ نے خلاف سنت کام کیا ہے، ایک تو آپ عید کے روز منبر لے کر گئے حالانکہ اس دن منبر نہیں لے جایا جاتا تھا، دوسرے آپ نے نماز سے پہلے خطبہ شروع کر دیا، تو ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ نے پوچھا: یہ کون ہے؟ لوگوں نے کہا: فلاں بن فلاں ہے اس پر انہوں نے کہا: اس شخص نے اپنا حق ادا کر دیا، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ جو تم میں سے کوئی منکر دیکھے اور اسے اپنے ہاتھ سے مٹا سکے تو اپنے ہاتھ سے مٹائے اور اگر ہاتھ سے نہ ہو سکے تو اپنی زبان سے مٹائے اور اگر یہ بھی نہ ہو سکے تو دل سے اسے برا جانے اور یہ ایمان کا ادنی درجہ ہے۔

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم stood on the day of the breaking of the fast ('Id) and offered prayer. He began the prayer before the sermon. He then addressed the people. When the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم finished the sermon, he descended (from the pulpit) and went to women. He gave them an exhortation while he was leaning on the hand of Bilal. Bilal was spreading his garment in which women were putting alms; some women put their rings and others other things.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came out on Eid (the festival day). He first offered the prayer and then delivered the sermon. He then went to women, taking Bilal with him. The narrator Ibn Kathir said: The probable opinion of Shubah is that he commanded them to give alms. So they began to put (their jewellery).

The above mentioned tradition has also been narrated by Ibn Abbas to the same effect through a different chain of transmitters. This version adds: He (the Prophet) thought that women could not hear (his sermon). So he went to them and Bilal was in his company. He gave them exhortation and commanded them to give alms. Some women put their ear-rings and other their rings in the garment of Bilal.

The above mentioned tradition has also bee transmitted by Ibn Abbas through a different chain of narrators. This version adds: The women began to give their ear-rings and rings in alms. Bilal began to collect them in his garment. He (the Prophet) then distributed them among the poor Muslims.

Al-Bara said: Someone presented a bow to the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم on the Eid (festival). So he preached leaning on it.

Abdur-Rahman bin Abis said: A man asked Ibb Abbas: Have you been present along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ? He replied: Yes. Had there been no dignity for me in his eyes, I would not have been present with him due to my minority. Then the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came to the point that was near the house of Kathir bin al-Salt. He prayed and afterwards preached. He (Ibn Abbas) did not mention the adhan (call to prayer) and the iqamah. He then commanded to give alms. The women began to point to their ears and throats (to give their jewelry in alms).
