Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying; When one of you stands up to pray, the devil comes to him and confuses him so that he does not know how much he has prayed. If any of you has such an experience, he should perform two prostrations while he is sitting. Abu Dawud said; This tradition has been narrated in a similar manner by Ibn ‘Uyainab, Mamar and al-Laith.

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا قَامَ يُصَلِّي جَاءَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَلَبَّسَ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى لَا يَدْرِيَ كَمْ صَلَّى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا وَجَدَ أَحَدُكُمْ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ وَكَذَا رَوَاهُ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَعْمَرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاللَّيْثُ.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب تم میں سے کوئی شخص نماز پڑھنے کے لیے کھڑا ہوتا ہے تو شیطان اس کے پاس آتا ہے اور اسے شبہے میں ڈال دیتا ہے، یہاں تک کہ اسے یاد نہیں رہ جاتا کہ اس نے کتنی رکعتیں پڑھی ہیں؟ لہٰذا جب تم میں سے کسی کو ایسا محسوس ہو تو وہ بیٹھے بیٹھے دو سجدے کر لے ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اسی طرح اسے ابن عیینہ، معمر اور لیث نے روایت کیا ہے۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Jafar: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Anyone who is in doubt in his prayer should make two prostrations after giving the salutation.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Buhaynah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم led us in prayer praying two rak'ahs. When he stood up and did not sit (at the end of two rak'ahs) the people stood up along with him. When he finished the prayer and we expect him to give the salutation, he said: Allah is most great. While sitting and made two prostrations before giving the salutation. Then he gave it.

This version adds: Some of us recited the Tashahhud while they were standing. Narrated Al-Mughirah ibn Shubah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When an imam stands up at the end of two rak'ahs, if he remembers before standing straight up, he should sit down, but if he stands straight up, he must not sit down, but perform the two prostrations of forgetfulness. Abu Dawud said: I have not narrated in this book of mine any hadith from Jabir Al-Ju'fi (one of the narrators) except this one.
