`Abdullah (b. Mas`ud) said: While observing prayer behind the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) we used to recite: Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon so and so. One day the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said to us: Verily Allah is Himself Peace. When any one of you sits during the prayer, he should say: All services rendered by words, by acts of worship, and all good things are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah's upright servants, for when he says this it reaches every upright servant in the heavens and the earth. (And say further): I testify that there is no god but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it.

حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، - قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: أَخْبَرَنَا، وَقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ - حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ. فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ: إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ، فَإِذَا قَعَدَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَلْيَقُلْ: التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، فَإِذَا قَالَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ لِلَّهِ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ مِنَ الْمَسْأَلَةِ مَا شَاءَ

۔ جریر نے منصور سے ، انہوں نے ابو وائل سے اور انہوں نے حضرت عبد اللہ ( بن مسعود ) ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ سے روایت کی ، انہوں نے کہا : ہم نماز میں رسول اللہﷺ کے پیچھے کہتے تھے : اللہ پر سلام ہو ، فلاں پر سلام ہو ۔ ( بخاری کی روایت میں جبریل پر میکائیل پر سلام ہو ۔ ) تو ایک دن رسول اللہﷺ نے ہم سے فرمایا : ’’بلاشبہ اللہ خود سلام ہے ، لہٰذا جب تم میں سے کوئی نماز میں بیٹھے تو کہے : بقا وبادشاہت ، اختیار وعظمت اللہ ہی کےلیے ہے ، اور ساری دعائیں اور ساری پاکیزہ چیزیں ( بھی اسی کےلیے ہیں ) ، اے نبی! آپ پر سلام ہو اور اللہ کی رحمت اور اس کی برکتیں ہوں ۔ ہم پر اور اللہ کے نیک بندوں پر سلام ہو ۔ جب کوئی شخص یہ ( دعائیہ ) کلمات کہے گا تو یہ آسمان و زمین میں اللہ کے ہر نیک بندے تک پہنچیں گے ۔ ( پھر کہے : ) میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ محمد اس کےبندے اور رسول ہیں ، پھر جو مانگنا چاہے اس کا انتخاب کر لے ۔ ‘ ‘

Abdullah b. Mas'ud reported: We were sitting with the Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) in prayer, and the rest of the hadith is the same as narrated by Mansur He (also said): After (reciting tashahud) he may choose any prayer.

Tawus narrated it on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas that he said: The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) used to teach us tashahhud as he would teach us a Sura of the Qur'an.
