Abdullah b. 'Umar reported that Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: Three persons set out on a journey. They were overtaken by rain and they had to find protection in a mountain cave where at its mouth there fell a rock of that mountain and thus blocked them altogether. One of them said to the others: Look to your good deeds that you performed for the sake of Allah and then supplicate Allah, the Exalted, that He might rescue you (from this trouble). One of them said: 0 Allah, I had my parents who were old and my wife and my small children also. I tended the flock and when I came back to them in the evening, I milked them (the sheep, goats, cows, etc.) and first served that milk to my parents. One day I was obliged to go out to a distant place in search of fodder and I could not come back before evening and found them (the parents) asleep. I milked the animals as I used to milk and brought milk to them and stood by their heads avoiding to disturb them from sleep and I did not deem it advisable to serve milk to my children before serving them. My children wept near my feet. I remained there in that very state and my parents too until it was morning. And (0 Allah) if Thou art aware that I did this in order to seek Thine pleasure, grant us riddance from this trouble. (The rock slipped a bit) that they could see the sky. The second one said: 0 Allah, I had a female cousin whom I loved more than the men love the women. I wanted to have sexual intercourse with her; she refused but on the condition of getting one hundred dinirs. It was with very great difficulty that I could collect one hundred dinirs and then paid them to her and when I was going to have a sexual intercourse with her, that she said: Servant of Allah, fear Allah and do not break the seal (of chastity) but by lawful means. I got up. 0 Allah, if Thou art aware that I did this in order to seek Thine pleasure, rid us from this trouble. The situation was somewhat eased for them. The third one said: Allah, I employed a workman for a measure of rice. After he had finished his work I gave him his dues (in the form of) a measure of rice, but he did not accept them. I used these rice as seeds, and that gave a bumper crop and I became rich enough to have cows and flocks (in my possession). He came to me and said: Fear Allah, and commit no crueltv upon me in regard to my dues. I said to him: Takeaway this flock of cows and sheep. He said: Fear Allah and do not make a fun of me. I said: I am not making a fun of you. You take the cows and the flocks. So he took them. 0 Allah, if Thou art aware that I did it for Thine pleasure, case the situation for us. And Allah relieved them from the rest of the trouble.

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْمُسَيِّبِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عِيَاضٍ أَبَا ضَمْرَةَ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا ثَلَاثَةُ نَفَرٍ يَتَمَشَّوْنَ أَخَذَهُمُ الْمَطَرُ، فَأَوَوْا إِلَى غَارٍ فِي جَبَلٍ، فَانْحَطَّتْ عَلَى فَمِ غَارِهِمْ صَخْرَةٌ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ، فَانْطَبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ: انْظُرُوا أَعْمَالًا عَمِلْتُمُوهَا صَالِحَةً لِلَّهِ، فَادْعُوا اللهَ تَعَالَى بِهَا، لَعَلَّ اللهَ يَفْرُجُهَا عَنْكُمْ، فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمْ: اللهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِي وَالِدَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ، وَامْرَأَتِي، وَلِي صِبْيَةٌ صِغَارٌ أَرْعَى عَلَيْهِمْ، فَإِذَا أَرَحْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ، حَلَبْتُ، فَبَدَأْتُ بِوَالِدَيَّ، فَسَقَيْتُهُمَا قَبْلَ بَنِيَّ، وَأَنَّهُ نَأَى بِي ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ الشَّجَرُ، فَلَمْ آتِ حَتَّى أَمْسَيْتُ، فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا قَدْ نَامَا، فَحَلَبْتُ كَمَا كُنْتُ أَحْلُبُ، فَجِئْتُ بِالْحِلَابِ، فَقُمْتُ عِنْدَ رُءُوسِهِمَا أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا مِنْ نَوْمِهِمَا، وَأَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَسْقِيَ الصِّبْيَةَ قَبْلَهُمَا، وَالصِّبْيَةُ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ عِنْدَ قَدَمَيَّ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ ذَلِكَ دَأْبِي وَدَأْبَهُمْ حَتَّى طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ، فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ، فَافْرُجْ لَنَا مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً، نَرَى مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ، فَفَرَجَ اللهُ مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً، فَرَأَوْا مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ: اللهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَتْ لِيَ ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ أَحْبَبْتُهَا كَأَشَدِّ مَا يُحِبُّ الرِّجَالُ النِّسَاءَ، وَطَلَبْتُ إِلَيْهَا نَفْسَهَا، فَأَبَتْ حَتَّى آتِيَهَا بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ، فَتَعِبْتُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِائَةَ دِينَارٍ، فَجِئْتُهَا بِهَا، فَلَمَّا وَقَعْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا، قَالَتْ: يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ اتَّقِ اللهَ، وَلَا تَفْتَحِ الْخَاتَمَ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهِ، فَقُمْتُ عَنْهَا، فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ، فَافْرُجْ لَنَا مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً، فَفَرَجَ لَهُمْ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ: اللهُمَّ إِنِّي كُنْتُ اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقِ أَرُزٍّ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى عَمَلَهُ قَالَ: أَعْطِنِي حَقِّي، فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَقَهُ فَرَغِبَ عَنْهُ، فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَزْرَعُهُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَرِعَاءَهَا، فَجَاءَنِي فَقَالَ: اتَّقِ اللهَ وَلَا تَظْلِمْنِي حَقِّي، قُلْتُ: اذْهَبْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرِعَائِهَا، فَخُذْهَا فَقَالَ: اتَّقِ اللهَ وَلَا تَسْتَهْزِئْ بِي فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي لَا أَسْتَهْزِئُ بِكَ، خُذْ ذَلِكَ الْبَقَرَ وَرِعَاءَهَا، فَأَخَذَهُ فَذَهَبَ بِهِ، فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ، فَافْرُجْ لَنَا مَا بَقِيَ، فَفَرَجَ اللهُ مَا بَقِيَ،

انس بن عیاض ابو ضمرہ نے موسیٰ بن عقبہ سے ، انہوں نے نافع سے ، انہوں نے حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے اور انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے روایت کی ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "" تین آدمی پیدال چلے جا رہے تھے کہ انہیں بارش نے آ لیا ، انہوں نے پہاڑ میں ایک غار کی پناہ لی ، تو ( اچانک ) ان کے گار کے منہ پر پہاڑ سے ایک چٹان آ گری اور ان کے اوپر آ کر انہیں ڈھانک دیا ، انہوں نے ایک دوسرے سے کہا : تم اپنے ان نیک اعمال پر نظر ڈالو جو تم نے ( صرف اور صرف ) اللہ کے لیے کیے ہوں اور ان کے وسیلے سے اللہ تعالیٰ سے دعا کرو ، شاید وہ اس بندش اور قید سے تمہیں آزاد کر دے ۔ اس پر ان میں سے ایک نے کہا ، اے اللہ! میرے انتہائی بوڑھے والدین ، بیوی اور چھوٹے چھوٹے بچے ہیں جن کی میں نگہداشت کرتا ہوں ۔ جب شام کو میں اپنے جانور ( چرانے کے بعد انہیں ) ان کے پاس واپس آتا ، ان کا دودھ دوہتا تو آغاز اپنے والدین سے کرتا اور اپنے بچوں سے پہلے انہیں پلاتا تھا ۔ ایک دن ( مویشیوں کے چرنے کے قابل ) درختوں کی تلاش مجھے بہت دور لے گئی ، میں رات سے پہلے گھر نہ پہنچ سکا ۔ میں نے انہیں پایا کہ وہ دونوں سو چکے ہیں ۔ میں جس طرح 0ہر روز ) دودھ نکالا کرتا تھا نکالا اور وہ ڈوبا ہوا دودھ لے کر ان کے سرہانے کھڑا ہو گیا ۔ مجھے یہ بھی ناپسند تھا کہ ان کو نیند سے جگاؤں اور یہ بھی گوارا نہ تھا کہ ان سے پہلے بچوں کو پلاؤں ، بچے بھوک کی شدت سے بلکتے ہوئے میرے قدموں میں لوٹ پوٹ ہو رہے تھے ، میں اسی حال میں ( کھڑا ) رہا اور وہ بھی اسی حالت میں رہے یہاں تک کہ صبح طلوع ہو گئی ۔ ( اے اللہ! ) اگر تو جانتا ہے کہ میں نے یہ صرف تیری رضا کے لیے کیا ہے تو اس ( غار کے بند منہ ) میں اتنا سوراخ کر دے کہ ہم آسمان کو دیکھ لیں ۔ اللہ نے اس میں ایک سوراخ کر دیا کہ وہ آسمان کو دیکھنے لگے ۔ اور دوسرا ( ساتھی ) کہنے لگا : اے اللہ! میری ایک چچا زاد تھی ، میں اس سے وہی شدید محبت کرتا تھا جو ایک مرد عورت سے کرتا ہے ۔ میں نے اس سے اپنے لیے ( خود ) اسی کو مانگا ۔ اس نے اس وقت تک ( میری بات ماننے سے ) انکار کر دیا ، یہاں تک کہ میں اسے ( سونے کے ) سو دینار لا کر دوں ۔ میں انہیں حاصل کرنے میں لگ گیا یہاں تک کہ سو دینار اکٹھے کر لیے ، پھر جب میں ان کے دونوں قدموں کے درمیان پہنچا تو وہ کہنے لگی : اللہ کے بندے! اللہ سے ڈر اور حق ( نکاح ) کے بغیر مہر ( بکارت ) نہ توڑ ۔ تو ( تیرا نام سن کر ) میں اس سے ( الگ ہو کر ) کھڑا ہو گیا ۔ اگر تو جانتا ہے کہ میں نے یہ تجھے راضی کرنے کے لیے کیا تھا تو اس میں ( اور زیادہ ) سوراخ کر دے ( اللہ نے ) ان کے لیے ( اور زیادہ ) سوراخ کر دیا ۔ اور تیسرے نے ( دعا کرتے ہوئے ) کہا : اے اللہ! میں نے ایک مزدور کو چاولوں کے ایک فرق ( تین صاع ، تقریبا ساڑھے سات کلو گرام ) کی اجرت کے عوض کام پر لگایا ۔ جب اس نے اپنا کام پورا کر لیا تو کہا : میرا حق ( اجرت ) ادا کرو ۔ میں نے اسے اس کا فرق ( تین صاع چاول ) پیش کیا ۔ وہ ( اسے کم قرار دیتے ہوئے ) اس کو چھوڑ کر چلا گیا ۔ میں مسلسل اس ( تین صاع چاولوں ) کو کاشت کرنے لگا ، یہاں تک کہ میں نے اس ( کی آمدنی ) سے گائے ( کے بہت سے ریوڑ ) اور ان کو چرانے والے ( غلام ) اکٹھے کر لیے ۔ پھر ( مدت بعد ) وہ میرے پاس ( واپس ) آیا اور کہا : اللہ سے ڈرو ، میرے حق میں مجھ پر ظلم نہ کرو ۔ میں نے کہا : ان گایوں ( کے ریوڑوں ) اور انہیں چرانے والے ( غلاموں ) کی طرف جاؤ اور انہیں لے لو ۔ اس نے کہا : اللہ سے ڈرو! میرے ساتھ مذاق تو نہ کرو ۔ میں نے کہا : میں مذاق نہیں کر رہا ، یہ سب گائیں اور ان کو چرانے والے ( غلام ) لے جاؤ ، وہ انہیں لے کر چلا گیا ۔ اگر تو جانتا ہے کہ میں نے یہ صرف تجھے راضی کرنے کے لیے کیا تھا تو جو حصہ باقی رہ گیا ہے ، اسے بھی کھول دے ۔ اللہ نے باقی حصہ بھی کھول دیا ( اور وہ آزاد ہو کر غار سے باہر نکل آئے ۔ ) ""

Abdullah b 'Umar reported: I heard Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: Three persons belonging to the earlier Ummahs set out on a journey until they had to spend a night in a cave. The rest of the hadith is the same and the additional words are: A person amongst them said: O Allah, I had my aged parents and I served them milk before I (served that) to my wife, children and my servants. And in case of the second one, the words are: She avoided me until she was hard pressed because of famine and she came to me and I gave her one hundred and twenty dinars. And in case of the third one (the words are): I invested his wages, and it brought profit and, as a result thereof, the merchandise increased and there was an abundance of goods. And he (the narrator said) that they got out of the cave and began to walk.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: I live in the thought of My servant and I am with him as he remembers Me. (The Holy Prophet) further said: By Allah, Allah is more pleased wth the repentance of His servant than what one of you would do on finding the lost camel in the waterless desert. When he draws near Me by the span of his hand. I draw near him by the length of a cubit and when he draws near Me by the length of a cubit. I draw near him by the length of a fathom and when he draws near Me walking I draw close to him hurriedly.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant when he turns penitently towards Him than one of you would be on finding the lost camel.

Harith b. Suwaid said: I went to see 'Abdullah to inquire about his health as he was sick and he narrated to us a hadith of Allahs Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ). He heard Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His believing servant than a person who loses his riding beast carrying food and drink. He sleeps (being disappointed of its recovery) and then gets up and goes in search for that, until he is stricken with thirst. then comes back to the place where he had been before and goes to sleep completely exhausted placing his head upon his hands waiting for death. And when he gets up, lot there is before him his riding beast and his provisions of food and drink. Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than the recovery of this riding beast along with the provisions (of food and drink).
