Shuraih b. Hani said: I came to 'A'isha to ask her about wiping over the socks. She said: You better ask ('Ali) son of Abu Talib for he used to travel with Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ). We asked him and he said: The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) stipulated (the upper limit) of three days and three nights for a traveller and one day and one night for the resident.

وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ الْمُلَائِيِّ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ عَائِشَةَ أَسْأَلُهَا عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ، فَقَالَتْ: عَلَيْكَ بِابْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، فَسَلْهُ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يُسَافِرُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ فَقَالَ: «جَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ لِلْمُسَافِرِ، وَيَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً لِلْمُقِيمِ» قَالَ: وَكَانَ سُفْيَانُ، إِذَا ذَكَرَ عَمْرًا، أَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ

عبد الرزاق نے کہا : ہمیں سفیان ثوری نے عمرو بن قیس ملائی سے حدیث سنای ، انہوں نےحکم بن عتیبہ سے ، انہوں نے قاسم بن مخیمرہ سے ، انہوں نے شریح بن ہانی سےروایت کی ، انہوں نے کہا : میں حضرت عائشہ ؓ کے پاس موزوں پر مسح کے بارے میں پوچھنے کی غرض سے حاضر ہوا تو انہوں نے کہا : ابن ابی طالب کے پاس جاؤ اور ان سے پوچھو کیونکہ وہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے ساتھ سفر کیا کرتے تھے ۔ ہم نے ان سے پوچھا تو انہوں نے کہا : رسول اللہ ﷺ نے مسافر کے لیے تین دن اور تین راتیں اور مقیم کے لیے ایک دن اور ایک رات ( کا وقت ) مقرر فرمایا ۔ ( عبدالر زاق نے ) کہا : سفیان ( ثوری ) جب بھی عمرو ( بن قیس ملائی ) کا تذکرہ کرتے تو ان کی تعریف کرتے ۔

Shuraib b. Hani reported: I asked 'A'isha about wiping over the shoes. She said: You better go to 'Ali, for he knows more about this than I. I, therefore, came to 'Ali and he narrated from the Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) like this.

Sulaiman b. Buraida narrated it from his father that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) offered prayers with one ablution on the day of the Conquest (of Mecca) and wiped over the socks. 'Umar said to him: You have today done something that you have not been accustomed to before. He (the Holy Prophet) said: 0 'Umar, I have done that on purpose.

Abu Huraira said: When anyone amongst you wakes up from sleep, he must not put his hand in the utensil till he has washed it three times, for he does not know where his hand was during the night.
