A'isha reported that Harith b. Hisham asked Allah's Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ): How does the the wahi (inspiration) come to you? He said: At times it comes to me like the ringing of a bell and that is most severe for me and when it is over I retain that (what I had received in the form of wahi), and at times an Angel in the form of a human being comes to me (and speaks) and I retain whatever he speaks.
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، وَابْنُ بِشْرٍ جَمِيعًا، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ الْحَارِثَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: كَيْفَ يَأْتِيكَ الْوَحْيُ؟ فَقَالَ: «أَحْيَانًا يَأْتِينِي فِي مِثْلِ صَلْصَلَةِ الْجَرَسِ وَهُوَ أَشَدُّهُ عَلَيَّ، ثُمَّ يَفْصِمُ عَنِّي وَقَدْ وَعَيْتُهُ، وَأَحْيَانًا مَلَكٌ فِي مِثْلِ صُورَةِ الرَّجُلِ، فَأَعِي مَا يَقُولُ»
  حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ حارث بن ہشام رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سوال کیا کہ آپ کے پاس وحی کیسے آتی ہے؟آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا : " کبھی وحی گھنٹی کی آواز کی طرح میں آتی ہے اور وہ مجھ پر زیادہ سخت ہوتی ہے ، پھر وحی منقطع ہوتی ہے تو میں اس کو یاد کرچک ہوتاہوں اور کبھی فرشتہ آدمی کی شکل میں آتا ہے اور وہ جو کچھ کہتا ہے میں اسے یاد رکھتا ہوں ۔ "

Ubida b. Samit reported that when wahi (inspiration) descended upon Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ), he felt a burden on that account and the colour of his face underwent a change.

Ibn Abbas reported that the People of the Book used to let their hair fall (on their foreheads) and the polytheists used to part them on their heads, and Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) liked to conform his behaviour to the People of the Book in matters in which he received no command (from God) ; so Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) let fall his hair upon his forehead, and then he began to part it after this.

Al-Bara' reported that Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) was of medium height, having broad shoulders, with his hair hanging down on the lobes of his ears. He put on a red mantle over him, and never have I seen anyone more handsome than Allah's Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ).

Al-Bara' reported: Never did I see anyone more handsome than Allah's Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) in the red mantle. His hair had been hanging down on the shoulders and his shoulders were very broad, and he was neither very tall nor short-statured. Ibn Kuraib said he had hair.
