Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: The truest couplet recited by a poet is: Behold! apart from Allah everything is vain, and he made no addition to it.
وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: أَصْدَقُ بَيْتٍ قَالَتْهُ الشُّعَرَاءُ: [البحر الطويل] أَلَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلَا اللهَ بَاطِلٌ
  شعبہ نے عبدالملک بن عمیر سے ، انھوں نے ابو سلمہ سے انھو ں نے حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے انھوں نے نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے روایت کی ، کہ آپ نے فرما یا : " شاعروں کے کلا م میں سب سے سچا شعر لبید کا ہے ۔ " سن رکھو! اللہ کے سوا ہر چیز باطل ہے ۔ "

Abu Huraira reported: I heard Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: The truest word which the poet stated is the word of Labid: Behold! apart from Allah everything is vain.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: It is better for a man's belly to be stuffed with pus which corrodes it than to stuff (one's mind) with frivolous poetry. Abu Bakr has reported it with a slight variation of wording.

Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri reported: We were going with Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ). As we reached the place (known as) `Arj there met (us) a poet who had been reciting poetry. Thereupon Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: Catch the satan or detain the satan, for filling the belly of a man with pus is better than stuffing his brain with poetry.

Abu Salama reported: I used to see dreams (and was so much perturbed) that I began to quiver and have temperature, but did not cover myself with a mantle. I met Abu Qatada and made a mention of that to him. He said: I heard Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: A good vision comes from Allah and a (bad) dream (hulm) from devil. So when one of you sees a bad dream (hulm) which he does not like, he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from its evil; then it will not harm him.
