Ibn Umar reported that Umar saw Utarid al-Tamimi standing in the market (and selling) the silk garments, and he was the person who went to (courts of) kings and got (high prices) for these garments from them. Umar said: Allah's Messenger I saw 'Utarid standing in the market with a silk garment; would that you buy and wear it for (receiving) the delegations of Arabs when they visit you? I (the narrator) said: I think he ('Umar) also said: You may wear it on Friday (also). Thereupon, Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) said: He who wears silk in this world has no share in the Hereafter. Later on when these silk garments were presented to Allah's Massenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) he presented one silk garment to 'Umar and presented one also to Usama b. Zaid and gave one to 'Ali b. Abu 'Talib. saying: Tear them and make head coverings for your ladies. 'Umar came carrying his garment and said: Allah's Messenger, you have sent it to me, whereas you had said yesterday about the (silk) garment of Utarid what you had to say. He (the Holy Prophet) said: I have not sent it to you that you wear it, but I have sent It to you so that you may derive benefit out of it; and Usama (donned) the garment (presented to him) and appeared to be brisk, whereupon Allah's Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) looked at him with a look by which he perceived that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) did not like what he had done. He said: Allah's Messenger. why is it that you look at me like this. whereas you yourself presented it to me? He said: I never sent it to you to wear it, but I sent It to you so that you may tear it and make out head covering for your ladies.

و حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعٌ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ رَأَى عُمَرُ عُطَارِدًا التَّمِيمِيَّ يُقِيمُ بِالسُّوقِ حُلَّةً سِيَرَاءَ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا يَغْشَى الْمُلُوكَ وَيُصِيبُ مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ عُطَارِدًا يُقِيمُ فِي السُّوقِ حُلَّةً سِيَرَاءَ فَلَوْ اشْتَرَيْتَهَا فَلَبِسْتَهَا لِوُفُودِ الْعَرَبِ إِذَا قَدِمُوا عَلَيْكَ وَأَظُنُّهُ قَالَ وَلَبِسْتَهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ الْحَرِيرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِحُلَلٍ سِيَرَاءَ فَبَعَثَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بِحُلَّةٍ وَبَعَثَ إِلَى أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ بِحُلَّةٍ وَأَعْطَى عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ حُلَّةً وَقَالَ شَقِّقْهَا خُمُرًا بَيْنَ نِسَائِكَ قَالَ فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ بِحُلَّتِهِ يَحْمِلُهَا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَعَثْتَ إِلَيَّ بِهَذِهِ وَقَدْ قُلْتَ بِالْأَمْسِ فِي حُلَّةِ عُطَارِدٍ مَا قُلْتَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا وَلَكِنِّي بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتُصِيبَ بِهَا وَأَمَّا أُسَامَةُ فَرَاحَ فِي حُلَّتِهِ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَظَرًا عَرَفَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أَنْكَرَ مَا صَنَعَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا تَنْظُرُ إِلَيَّ فَأَنْتَ بَعَثْتَ إِلَيَّ بِهَا فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا وَلَكِنِّي بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتُشَقِّقَهَا خُمُرًا بَيْنَ نِسَائِكَ

جریر بن حازم نے کہا : ہمیں نافع نے حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سےروایت بیان کی کہا : حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے دیکھا کہ عُطارد تمیمی بازار میں ایک ریشمی حلہ ( بیچنے کے لیے ) اس کی قیمت بتا رہا ہے ۔ یہ بادشاہوں کے پاس جایا کرتا تھا اور ان سے انعام واکرا م وصول کرتا تھا ، حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ! میں نے عطارد کو دیکھا ہے وہ بازار میں ایک ریشمی حلہ بیچ رہا ہے ، آپ اسے خرید لیتے تو آپ عرب کے وفود آتے ( اس وقت ) آپ اس کو زیب تن فرما تے اور میراخیال ہے ( یہ بھی ) کہا : اور جمعہ کے دن بھی آپ اسے زیب تن فرما تے ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نےفرما یا : " دنیا میں ریشم صرف وہی شخص پہنتا ہے جس کا آخرت میں کو ئی حصہ نہیں ہو تا ۔ اس واقعے کے بعد ( کا ایک دن آیاتو ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس کئی ریشمی حلے آئے آپ نے ایک حلہ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے پاس بھی بھیجا ، ایک حضرت اسامہ بن زید رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے پاس بھیجا اور ایک حلہ حضرت علی بن ابی طالب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو دیا اور فرما یا : " اس کو پھاڑ کر اپنی عورتوں کو دوپٹے بنا دو ۔ " حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اپنے حلے کو اٹھا کر لا ئے اور عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم !آپ نے یہ حلہ میرے پاس بھیجا ہے حالانکہ آپ نےکل ہی عطارد کے حلے کے متعلق فرمایا تھا ۔ جو آپ نے فرما یا تھا؟ آپ نے فرمایا : " میں نے تمھا رے پاس یہ حلہ اس لیے نہیں بھیجا کہ اسے تم خود پہنو ، بلکہ میں نے تمھا رے پاس یہ اس لیے بھیجا ہے کہ تم کچھ ( فائدہ ) حاصل کرو ۔ " تو رہے حضرت اسامہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ تو وہ اپنا حلہ پہن کر آگئے ، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان کو اس طرح دیکھا جس سے انھیں پتہ چل گیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ان کا ایسا کرنا پسند نہیں آیا امھوں نے کہا : اللہ کے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ! آپ مجھے اس طرح کیوں دیکھ رہے ہیں ؟ آپ ہی نے تو اسے میرے پاس بھیجا تھا ۔ آپ نے فرما یا : " میں نے تمھا رے پاس اسلیے نہیں بھیجا تھا کہ تم خود اس کو پہن لو ۔ بلکہ میں نے اس لیے اس حلے کو تمھا رے پاس بھیجا تھا کہ تم اس کو پھاڑ کر اپنی عورتوں میں دوپٹے بانٹ دو ۔

Abdullah b. Umar reported: 'Umar b. at-Khattab found a silk garment being sold in the market; he purchased it and brought it to Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and said: Allah's Messenger, get it and adorn yourself (by wearing it) on the 'Id (days) and for the delegation. Thereupon, Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: That is the dress of one who has no share (in the Hereafter). 'Umar stayed there so long as Allah wished. Then Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) sent him a silk cloak. 'Umar came back with that to Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and said: Allah's Messenger. you said that it is the dress of one who has no share in the Hereafter, but then you sent it to me. Thereupon, Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: You sell it and meet your need (with its proceeds).

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Shihab with the same chain of transmitters.

lbn 'Umar reported that 'Umar saw a person of the tribe of 'Utirid selling a garment made of brocade or silk and said to Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ): Would that you buy it? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: He who wears it has no share for him in the Hereafter. Then Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) was presented with a striped silk garment and he sent it to him ('Umar). He (, Umar) said: You sent it to me whereas I heard from you about it what you had to say, whereupon he (Allah's Messenger) said: I sent it to you so that you may benefit by it.

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Umar through another chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording (and the words are that the Holy Prophet) said: I sent it to you so that you might derive benefit from it. but I did not send it to you to wear it.

Ibn 'Umar reported that 'Umar saw a person with a garment of brocade and he brought it to Allah's Apostle (may peace he upon him) -the rest of the hadith is the same, except for the words that he (the Holy Prophet) said: I sent it to you that you might get money thereby.

Abdullah. the freed slave of Asma' (the daughter of Abu Bakr). the maternal uncle of the son of 'Ata, reported: Asma' sent me to 'Abdullah b. 'Umar saying: The news has reached me that you prohibit the use of three things: the striped robe. saddle cloth made of red silk. and the fasting in the holy month of Rajab. 'Abdullah said to me: So far as what you say about fasting in the month of Rajab, how about one who observes continuous fasting? -and so far as what you say about the striped garment, I heard Umar b. Khatab say that he had heard from Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ): He who wears silk garment has no share for him (in the Hereafter), and I am afraid it may not be that striped garment; and so far as the red saddle clotb is concerned that is the saddle cloth of Abdullah and it is red. I went back to Asma' and informed her. whereupon she said: Here is the cloak of Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ). and she brought out to me that cloak made of Persian cloth with a hem of brocade, and its sleeves bordered with brocade and said: This wall Allah's Messenger's cloak with 'A'isha until she died, and when she died. I got possession of it. The Apostle of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) used to wear that, and we waslied it for the sick and sought cure thereby.
