It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) had a race of the horses which had been especially prepared for the purpose from Hafya' to Thaniyyat al-Wada' (the latter being the winning post), and of those which had not been trained from Thaniyya to the mosque of Banu Zuraiq, and Ibn Umar was among those who took part in this race.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَابَقَ بِالْخَيْلِ الَّتِي قَدْ أُضْمِرَتْ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ، وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ، وَسَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضْمَرْ، مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ»، «وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فِيمَنْ سَابَقَ بِهَا»،

امام مالک نے نافع سے ، انہوں نے حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کی کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایسے گھوڑوں کی حفیاء کے مقام سے مسابقت ( دوڑ ) کروائی جنہیں ( عربی طریقے سے ) فالتو چربی زائل کر کے سبک اندام بنایا گیا تھا ۔ ان کی دوڑ ثنیۃ الوداع تک تھی اور جن کو سبک اندام نہ بنایا گیا تھا ان کی دوڑ ثنیہ سے مسجد بنی زُریق تک کرائی ۔ ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہ ان میں شامل تھے جنہوں نے گھوڑے دوڑائے ۔

This tradition has been handed down through several other chains of transmitters. One of the chaines has the addition of the following words from Abdullah b. 'Umar: I came first in the race and my horse jumped into the mosque with me.

It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah (?) said: There will be great benefit in the forelock of the horses until the Day of judgment.

It has been narrated on the authority of Jarir b. Abdullah who said: I saw that the Messenger of Allah (?) was twisting the forelock of a horse with his fingers and he was saying: (A great) benefit. i. e. reward (for rearing them for Jihad) and spoils of war, has been tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Judgment.

The above tradition has also been narrated on the authority of Yunus through a different chain of transmitters.

The same tradition has been narrated on the authority of Urwat al-Bariqi who said that the Prophet (?) said: Great good is attached to the forelock of the horses until the Day of Judgment.
