In the hadith transmitted on the authority of Yahya, he (the Holy Prophet) permitted the keeping of dogs for (the protection of) herds, for hunting and (the protection of) cultivated land.

وحَدَّثَنِيهِ يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ، ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ، وقَالَ ابْنُ حَاتِمٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: عَنْ يَحْيَى، وَرَخَّصَ فِي كَلْبِ الْغَنَمِ، وَالصَّيْدِ، وَالزَّرْعِ

یحییٰ بن حبیب نے کہا : ہمیں خالد بن حارث نے حدیث بیان کی ۔ محمد بن حاتم نے کہا : ہمیں یحییٰ بن سعید نے حدیث سنائی ۔ محمد بن ولید نے کہا : ہمیں محمد بن جعفر نے حدیث بیان کی ۔ اسحٰق بن ابراہیم نے کہا : ہمیں نضر نے خبر دی ۔ محمد بن مثنیٰ نے کہا : ہمیں وہب بن جریر نے حدیث بیان کی ، ( خالد بن حارث ، یحییٰ بن سعید ، محمد بن جعفر ، نضر اور وہب بن جریر ) سب نے شعبہ سے اسی سند کے ساتھ ( یہی ) حدیث بیان کی ۔ ابن حاتم نے اپنی حدیث میں کہا : یحییٰ سے روایت ہے ۔ ( اور آگے یہ کہا : ) اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے بکریوں کی رکھوالی ، شکار اور کھیت کی حفاظت کرنے والے کتے کی اجازت دے دی ۔

Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: He who keeps a dog other than that meant for watching the herd or for hunting loses every day out of his deeds equal to two qirat.

Salim reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: He who kept a dog other than one meant for hunting or for watching the herd, lost two qirat of his reward every day.

Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying He who kept a dog other than one meant for hunting or for watching the herd lost out of his deeds (equal to) two qirat every day.

Salim b. 'Abdullah reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: He who kept a dog other than one meant for watching the herd or for hunting would lose every day two qirat of his good deeds. 'Abdullah and Abu Huraira also said: Or dog meant for watching the field.

Salim reported on the authority of his father (Allah be pleased with him) that Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: He who kept a dog other than one meant for hunting or for the protection of the herd would lose two qirat of his deeds every day. Salim said: Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) used to say: Or the dog meant for watching the field, and he was the owner of the land.

Salim b. Abdullah reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: Whosover amongst the owners of the house keeps a dog other than one meant for watching the herd or for hunting loses two qirat of his deeds every day.
