Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) said: When any one of you is invited to a feast, he should accept it. He may eat if he likes, or he may abandon (eating) if he likes. Ibn Mathanni did not make mention of the word feast .

وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى طَعَامٍ، فَلْيُجِبْ، فَإِنْ شَاءَ طَعِمَ، وَإِنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ»، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى: «إِلَى طَعَامٍ

محمد بن مثنیٰ نے ہمیں حدیث بیان کی ، کہا : ہمیں عبدالرحمٰن بن مہدی نے حدیث سنائی ، نیز ہمیں محمد بن عبداللہ بن نمیر نے حدیث سنائی ، انہوں نے کہا : ہمیں میرے والد نے حدیث بیان کی ، دونوں ( ابن مہدی اور عبداللہ بن نمیر ) نے کہا : ہمیں سفیان اور ابوزبیر سے حدیث بیان کی ، انہوں نے حضرت جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کی ، انہوں نے کہا : رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا : " جب تم میں سے کسی کو کھانے کی دعوت دی جائے تو وہ اس مین آئے ، پھر اگر اور چاہے تو کھا لے ، چاہے تو نہ کھائے ۔ " ابن مثنیٰ نے " کھانے کی دعوت " کے الفاظ ذکر نہیں کیے

Abu Haraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: If any one of you is invited, he should accept (the invitation). In case he is fasting, he should pray (in order to bless the inmates of the house), and if he is not fasting he should eat.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) used to say: The worst kind of food is the wedding feast to which the rich are invited and the poor are ignored. He who does not come to the feast, he in fact disobeys Allah and His Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ).

Sufyan reported: I said to Zuhri: Abu Bakr, what does this hadith mean: The worst kind of food is at a wedding feast of the rich ? He laughed and said: The food served in the feast given by the rich is not worst (in itself). Sufyan said: My father was rich, so I felt disturbed when I heard this hadith, so I asked Zuhri who said: I heard from 'Abd al-Rahman al-Alraj that he heard Abu Huraira (Allah he pleased with him) say: The worst kind of food is that served at the wedding feast. The rest of the hadith is the same.
