Sa'id b. al-Musayyab reported that 'Ali and 'Uthman (Allah be pleased with them) met at 'Usfan; and Uthman used to forbid (people) from performing Tamattu' and 'Umra (during the period of Hajj), whereupon 'Ali said: What is your opinion about a matter which the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) did but you forbid it? Thereupon Uthman said: You leave us alone, whereupon he ('Ali) said: I cannot leave you alone. When 'Ali saw this, he put on Ihram for both of them together (both for Hajj and 'Umra).

وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، قَالَ: اجْتَمَعَ عَلِيٌّ، وَعُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا بِعُسْفَانَ، فَكَانَ عُثْمَانُ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُتْعَةِ أَوِ الْعُمْرَةِ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: «مَا تُرِيدُ إِلَى أَمْرٍ فَعَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، تَنْهَى عَنْهُ؟» فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ: دَعْنَا مِنْكَ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أَدَعَكَ، فَلَمَّا أَنْ رَأَى عَلِيٌّ ذَلِكَ، أَهَلَّ بِهِمَا جَمِيعًا

عمرو بن مرہ نے سعید بن مسیب سے روایت کی ، کہا : ( ایک مرتبہ ) مقام عسفان پر حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اورحضرت عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اکھٹے ہوئے ۔ حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ حج تمتع سے یا ( حج کے مہینوں میں ) عمرہ کرنے سے منع فرماتے تھے ۔ حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے ان سے پوچھا : آپ اس معاملے میں کیا کرنا چاہتے ہیں جس کا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے حکم دیا اور آپ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اس سے منع فرماتے ہیں؟حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے جواب دیا : آپ اپنی ر ائے کی بجائے ہمیں ہماری رائے پر چھوڑ دیں ۔ حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : ( آپ ر سول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے حکم کےخلاف حکم دے رہے ہیں ) میں آپ کو نہیں چھوڑ سکتا ۔ جب حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے یہ ( اصرار ) دیکھا توحج وعمرہ دونوں کا تلبیہ پکارنا شروع کردیا ( تاکہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے حکم کے مطابق تمتع بھی رائج رہے ۔ )

Abu Dharr (Allah be pleased with him) said that Tamattu' in Hajj was a special (concession) only for the Companions of Muhammad ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ).

Abu Dharr (Allah be pleased with him) said: Two are the Mut'as which were not permissible but only for us, i. e. temporary marriage with women and Tamattu' in Hajj.

Abd al-Rahman b. Abi al-Sha'tha' reported: I came to Ibrahim al-Nakha'I and Ibrahim Taimi and said: I intend to combine 'Umra and Hajj this year, whereupon Ibrahim al-Nakha'i said: But your father did not make such intention. Ibrahim narrated on the authority of, his father that he passed by Abu Dharr (Allah be pleased with him) at Rabdha, and made a mention of that, whereupon he said: It was a special concession for us and not for you.

Ghunaim b. Qais said: I asked Sa'd b. Abu Waqqas (Allah be pleased with him) about Mut'a, whereupon he said: We did that, and it was the day when he was an unbeliever living in (one of the) houses of Mecca.
