Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported that a person came to the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and said: Messenger of Allah, I am undone. He (the Holy Prophet) said: What has brought about your ruin? He said: I have had intercourse with my wife during the month of Ramadan. Upon this he (the Holy prophet) said: Can you find a slave to set him free? He said: NO He (the Prophet again) said: Can you observe fast for two consecutive months? He said: No. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Can you provide food to sixty poor people?, He said: No. He then sat down and (in the meanwhile) there was brought to the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) a basket which contained dates. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Give these (dates) in charity. He (the man) said: Am I to give to one who is poorer than I? There is no family poorer than mine between the two lava plains of Medina. The Apostle of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) laughed so that his molar teeth became visible and said: Go and give it to your family to eat.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، قَالَ يَحْيَى: أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: هَلَكْتُ، يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: «وَمَا أَهْلَكَكَ؟» قَالَ: وَقَعْتُ عَلَى امْرَأَتِي فِي رَمَضَانَ، قَالَ: «هَلْ تَجِدُ مَا تُعْتِقُ رَقَبَةً؟» قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: «فَهَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ تَصُومَ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ؟» قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: «فَهَلْ تَجِدُ مَا تُطْعِمُ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا؟» قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: ثُمَّ جَلَسَ، فَأُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعَرَقٍ فِيهِ تَمْرٌ، فَقَالَ: «تَصَدَّقْ بِهَذَا» قَالَ: أَفْقَرَ مِنَّا؟ فَمَا بَيْنَ لَابَتَيْهَا أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ أَحْوَجُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَّا، فَضَحِكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ أَنْيَابُهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «اذْهَبْ فَأَطْعِمْهُ أَهْلَكَ»

یحییٰ بن یحییٰ ، ابو بکر بن ابی شیبہ ، زہیر بن حرب ، ابن نمیر ، ابن عینیہ ، سفیان بن عینیہ ، حمید بن عبداالرحمٰن ، حضرت ابوہریرۃ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ ایک آدمی نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں آیا اور اس نے عرض کیا اے اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم !میں ہلاک ہوگیا آپ نے فرمایا تو کیسے ہلا ک ہوگیا؟اس نے عرض کیا کہ میں نے رمضان میں اپنی بیوی سے ہمبستری کرلی ہے آپ نے فرمایا کیا تو ایک غلام آزاد کرسکتا ہے؟اس نے عرض کیا نہیں ، آپ نے فرمایا کیا تو مسلسل دو مہینے کے روزے رکھ سکتاہے؟اس نے عرض کیا نہیں ، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کیاتو ساٹھ مسکینوں کو کھانا کھلا سکتا ہے؟اس نے عرض کیا کہ نہیں ، راوی کہتے ہیں کہ پھر وہ آدمی بیٹھ گیا نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں ایک ٹوکرا لایا گیاجس میں کھجوریں تھیں ۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ان کو محتاجوں میں صدقہ کردو اس نے عرض کیا کیا ہم سے بھی زیادہ محتاج ہے؟مدینہ کے دونوں اطراف کے درمیان والے گھروں میں کوئی ایسا گھر نہیں جو ہم سے زیادہ محتاج ہو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہنس پڑے ۔ یہاں تک کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی داڑھیں مبارک ظاہر ہوگئیں پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس آدمی سے فرمایا جا اور اسے اپنے گھر والوں کو کھلا ۔

A hadith like this has been narrated on the authority of Muhammad b. Muslim al-Zuhri with the same chain of transmitters, and he said: There was brought an 'araq containing dates, an 'araq being a huge basket. But in this hadith no mention has been made of (the fact) that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) laughed till his molar teeth became visible.

Abu Huraira reported that a person had intercourse with his wife during Ramadan (while fasting). He asked for the religious verdict (about it) from the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ), whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Can you find a slave (to grant him freedom)? He said: No. He (the Prophet again) said: Can you afford to observe fasts for two (consecutive) months? He said: No. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Then feed sixty poor men.

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Zuhri with the same chain of transmitters that a person broke fast in Ramadan whereupon the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) commanded him to free a slave (as an atonement), and the rest of the hadith is the same as narrated by Ibn Uyaina.

Humaid b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported that Abu Huraira had narrated to him that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) commanded the person (who) broke the fast in Ramadan to free a slave or observe fasts for two (consecutive) months or feed sixty poor persons.

A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that a person came to the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and said: I am burnt, whereupon the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: How is it? He (the person) said: I had intercourse with my wife during the day in Ramadan. Upon this (the Holy Prophet) said: Give charity, give charity. He (the person) said: There is nothing with me. He commanded him to sit down, (In the meanwhile) there were brought to him (to the Holy Prophet) two baskets containing eatables, whereupon the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) told him to give them as sadaqa.
