Translation

Arabic, english and urdu

Mas'ud b. al-Hakam al-Ansari informed Nafi' that he had heard Hadrat 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), son of Abu Talib, say about the biers: Verily, the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) used to stand first but later on kept sitting; but it is also narrated that Nafi' ibn Jubair saw Waqid b. 'Amr standing for a bier till it was placed down.

و حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَإِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ جَمِيعًا عَنْ الثَّقَفِيِّ قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي وَاقِدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ أَنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ مَسْعُودَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ يَقُولُ فِي شَأْنِ الْجَنَائِزِ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ وَإِنَّمَا حَدَّثَ بِذَلِكَ لِأَنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ رَأَى وَاقِدَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو قَامَ حَتَّى وُضِعَتْ الْجَنَازَةُ

( عبد الوھاب ) نےکہا میں نےیحیٰ بن سعید سے سنا ‘ کہا : مجھے واقد بن عمروبن سعدبن معاذ انصاری نے خبر دی کہ نافع بن جبیر نے ان کو خبر دی کہ ان کو مسعود بن حکم انصاری نے بتایا کہ انہوں نے حضرت علی بن ابی طالبؓ سے سنا ‘ وہ جنازوں کے بارے میں کہتے تھے : ( پہلے ) رسول اللہﷺ کھڑے ہوتے تھے ( بعد میں ) بیٹھے رہتے ۔ اور انہوں ( نافع ) نے یہ روایت اس لیے بیان کی کہ نافع بن جبیر نے واقد بن عمرو کو دیکھا وہ جنازے کے رکھ دیے جانے تک کھڑے رہے ۔

It is narrated on the authority of Muhammad b. Munkadir that he said: I heard from Mas'ud b. al-Hakam who narrated it on the authority of Hadrat 'Ali that he said: We saw the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) stood up for a (bier) and we also stood up; he sat down and we too sat down.

Jubair b. Nufair says: I heard it from 'Auf b. Malik that the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said prayer on the dead body, and I remembered his prayer: O Allah! forgive him, have mercy upon him, give him peace and absolve him. Receive him with honour and make his grave spacious; wash him with water, snow and hail. Cleanse him from faults as Thou wouldst cleanse a white garment from impurity. Requite him with an abode more excellent than his abode, with a family better than his family, and with a mate better than his mate. Admit him to the Garden, and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of the Fire. ('Auf bin Malik) said: I earnestly desired that I were this dead body.

Anas b. Malik said: I heard the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) say (while offering prayer on a dead body): O Allah! forgive him, have mercy upon him. Give him peace and absolve him. Receive him with honour and make his grave spacious. Wash him with water, snow and hail, cleanse him from faults as is cleaned a white garment from impurity. Requite him with an abode more excellent than his abode, with a family better than his family, and with a mate better than his mate, and save him from the trial of the grave and torment of Hell. 'Auf b. Malik said: I earnestly desired that I were the dead person to receive the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as this dead body had (received).
