It is reported on the authority of Ibn Juraij that the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: Should anyone amongst you see a bier he must stand up so long as it is within sight in case he does not intend to follow it.

و حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو كَامِلٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ح و حَدَّثَنِي يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ جَمِيعًا عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ ح و حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ نَافِعٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّ حَدِيثَ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمْ الْجَنَازَةَ فَلْيَقُمْ حِينَ يَرَاهَا حَتَّى تُخَلِّفَهُ إِذَا كَانَ غَيْرَ مُتَّبِعِهَا

ایوب ، عبیداللہ ، ابن عون اور ابن جریج سب نے نافع سے اسی سند کے ساتھ لیث بن سعد کی حدیث کے ہم معنی حدیث بیان کی ، البتہ ابن جریج کی حدیث یہ ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا : " جب تم میں سے کوئی جنازے کو دیکھے تو اگر وہ اس کے پیچھے ( ساتھ ) چلنے والا نہیں ۔ تو اس کو دیکھتے ہی کھڑا ہوجائے حتیٰ کہ وہ اس کو پیچھے چھوڑ جائے ۔ "

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri that the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: When you follow a bier, do not sit until it is placed on the (ground).

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri that the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: Whenever you come across a bier you should stand up, and he who follows it should not sit down till it is placed on the ground.

It is narrated on the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdullah: There passed a bier and the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) stood up for it and we also stood up along with him. We said: Messenger of Allah, that was the bier of a Jewess. Upon this he remarked: Verily, death is a matter of consternation, so whenever you come across a bier stand up.

Ibn Juraij told me that Abu Zubair heard Jabir say that the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) kept standing for a bier until it disappeared.

Again Abu Zubair heard Jabir say that the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and his Companions kept standing for a bier of a Jew until it disappeared from sight.

It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Abu Laila that while Qais b. Sa'd and Sahl b. Hunaif were both in Qadislyya a bier passed by them and they both stood up. They were told that it was the bier of one of the people of the land (non-Muslim). They said that a bier passed before the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and he stood up. He was told that he (the dead man) was a Jew. Upon this he remarked: Was he not a human being or did he not have a soul? And in the hadith narrated by 'Amr b. Murra with the same chain of transmitters, (the words) are: There passed a bier before us.
