Abd al-Rahman b. Samura, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: During the lifetime of Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) I was shooting some of my arrows in Medina, when the sun eclipsed. I threw (the arrows) and said: By Allah, I must see how the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) acts in solar eclipse. So I came to him and he was standing in prayer, raising his hands, glorifying Him, praising Him, acknowledging His Oneness, declaring His greatness, and supplicating Him, till the sun cleared. When the eclipse was over, he recited two surahs and prayed two rak'ahs.

و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ حَيَّانَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَرْتَمِي بِأَسْهُمٍ لِي بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ كَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَنَبَذْتُهَا فَقُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ لَأَنْظُرَنَّ إِلَى مَا حَدَثَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ فِي الصَّلَاةِ رَافِعٌ يَدَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ يُسَبِّحُ وَيَحْمَدُ وَيُهَلِّلُ وَيُكَبِّرُ وَيَدْعُو حَتَّى حُسِرَ عَنْهَا قَالَ فَلَمَّا حُسِرَ عَنْهَا قَرَأَ سُورَتَيْنِ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

عبدالاعلیٰ بن عبدالاعلیٰ نے جریری سے ، انھوں نے حیان بن نمیر سے اور انھوں نے حضرت عبدالرحمان بن سمرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کی اور وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے صحابہ رضوان اللہ عنھم اجمعین میں سے تھے ، انھوں نے کہا : میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی زندگی میں ایک د ن مدینہ میں ا پنے تیروں سے نشانے لگا رہا تھا کہ اچانک سورج کو گرہن لگ گیا ، اس پر میں نے انھیں ( تیروں کو ) پھینکا اور ( دل میں ) کہا : اللہ کی قسم!میں ضرور د یکھوں گا کہ سورج کے گرہن کے اس و قت میں ر سول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر کیا نئی کیفیت طاری ہوئی ہے ۔ کہا : میں آپ کے پاس آیا ، آپ نماز میں کھرے تھے ، دونوں ہاتھ اٹھائے ہوئے تھے ، پھر آپ نے تسبیح ، حمد و ثنا لاالٰہ الا اللہ اور اللہ کی بڑائی کا ورد اور د عا مانگنی شروع کردی یہاں تک کہ سورج کا گرہن چھٹ گیا ، کہا : اور جب سورج کا گرہن چھٹ گیا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دو سورتیں پڑھیں اور دو رکعت نماز ادا کی ۔

Abd al-Rahman b. Samura reported: I was shooting some of my arrows during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) that the sun eclipsed. The rest of the hadith is the same.

Abdullah b. 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) observed: Verily the sun and the moon do not eclipse on account of the death or life of anyone. They are in fact the signs among the signs of Allah. So when you see them, observe prayer.

Ziyad b. 'Ilaqa reported: I heard Mughira b. Shu'ba saying that the sun eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) on the day when Ibrahim died. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse on account of the death of anyone or on account of the birth of anyone. So when you see them, supplicate Allah, and observe prayer till it is over.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: Exhort to recite There is no god but Allah to those of you who are dying.
