Ali b. Abu Talib reported that when the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) got up at night for prayer he would say: I turn my face in complete devotion to One Who is the Originator of the heaven and the earth and I am not of the polytheists. Verily my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds; There is no partner with Him and this is what I have been commanded (to profess and believe) and I am of the believers. O Allah, Thou art the King, there is no god but Thee, Thou art my Lord, and I am Thy bondman. I wronged myself and make a confession of my Sin. Forgive all my sins, for no one forgives the sins but Thee, and guide me in the best of conduct for none but Thee guideth anyone (in) good conduct. Remove sins from me, for none else but Thou can remove sins from me. Here I am at Thy service, and Grace is to Thee and the whole of good is in Thine hand, and one cannot get nearneststo Thee through evil. My (power as well as existence) is due to Thee (Thine grace) and I turn to Thee (for supplication). Thou art blessed and Thou art exalted. I seek forgiveness from Thee and turn to Thee in repentance: and when he would bow, he would say: O Allah, it is for Thee that I bowed. I affirm my faith in Thee and I submit to Thee, and submit humbly before Thee my hearing, my eyesight, my marrow, my bone, my sinew; and when he would raise his head, he would say: O Allah, our Lord, praise is due to Thee, (the praise) with which is filled the heavens and the earth, and with which is filled that (space) which exists between them, and filled with anything that Thou desireth afterward. And when he prostrated himself, he (the Holy Prophet) would say: O Allah, it is to Thee that I prostrate myself and it is in Thee that I affirm my faith, and I submit to Thee. My face is submitted before One Who created it, and shaped it, and opened his faculties of hearing and seeing. Blessed is Allah, the best of Creators; and he would then say between Tashahhud and the pronouncing of salutation: Forgive me of the earlier and later open and secret (sins) and that where I made transgression and that Thou knowest better than I. Thou art the First and the Last. There is no god, but Thee.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ الْمَاجِشُونُ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعَظْمِي وَعَصَبِي وَإِذَا رَفَعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مِنْ آخِرِ مَا يَقُولُ بَيْنَ التَّشَهُّدِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

یوسف ماجثون نے کہا : مجھ سے میرے والد ( یعقوب بن ابی سلمہ ماجثون ) نے عبدالرحمان اعرج سے حدیث بیان کی ، انھوں نے عبیداللہ بن ابی رافع سے ، انھوں نے حضرت علی بن ابی طالب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے اور انھوں نےرسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ر وایت کی کہ جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نماز کے لئے کھڑ ے ہوتے تھے تو فرماتے : "" میں نے اپنا رخ اس ذات کی طرف کردیا ہے ۔ جس نے آسمانوں اور زمین کو پیدا فرمایا ، ہر طرف سے یکسو ہوکر ، اور میں اس کے ساتھ شریک ٹھہرانے والوں میں سے نہیں ، میری نماز اور میری ہر ( بدنی ومالی ) عبادت اور میرا جینا اور میرا مرنا اللہ کے لئے ہے جو کائنات کا رب ہے ، اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں اور اسی کا مجھے حکم ملا ہے اور میں فرمانبرداری کرونے والوں میں سے ہوں ۔ اے اللہ ! تو ہی بادشاہ ہے تیرے سوا کوئی بندگی کے لائق نہیں ، تو میرا رب ہے میں تیرا بندہ ہوں اور میں نے اپنے اوپر ظلم کیا ہے اور اپنے گناہ کا اعتراف کیا ہے ، اس لئے میرے سارے گناہ بخش دے کیونکہ گناہوں کو بخشنے والا تیرے سوا کوئی نہیں ، اور میری بہترین اخلاق کی طرف راہنمائی فرما ، تیرے سوا بہترین اخلاق کی راہ پر چلانے والا کوئی نہیں ، اور برے اخلاق مجھ سے ہٹا دے ، تیرے سوا برے اخلاق کو مجھ سے دور کرنے والا کوئی نہیں ، میں تیرے حضور حاضر ہوں اور دونوں جہانوں کی سعادتیں تجھ سے ہیں ہر طرح کی بھلائی تیر ے ہاتھ میں ہے اور برائی کا تیر ی طرف کوئی گزر نہیں ہے میں تیرے ہی سہارے ہوں ، اور تیری ہی طرف میرا رخ ہے ، تو برکت والا رفعت والا اور بلندی والا ہے میں تجھ سے بخشش مانگتا ہوں اور تیرے حضور توبہ کر تا ہوں ۔ "" اور جب آپ رکوع کرتے تو فرماتے : "" اے اللہ ! میں تیرے سامنے جھکا ہوا ہوں اور میں تجھ ہی پر ایمان لایاہوں ، اپنے آپ کو تیرے ہی سپرد کر دیا ہے ، میرے کان اور میری آنکھیں اور میرا مغز اور میری ہڈیاں اور میری رگیں اور میرے پٹھے تیرے ہی حضور جھکے ہوئے ہیں ۔ "" اور جب رکوع سے اٹھتے تو کہتے : "" اے اللہ! ہمارے رب ، تیرے ہی لئے حمد ہے جس سے آ سمانوں اور زمین کی وسعتیں بھر جائیں اور اس کے بعد جو تو چاہے اس کی وسعتیں بھر جائیں ۔ "" اور جب آپ سجدہ کرتے تو کہتے : "" اے اللہ!میں نے تیرے ہی حضور سجدہ کیااور تجھ ہی پر ایمان لایا اور ا پنے آپ کو تیرے ہی حوالے کیا ، میرا چہرہ اس ذات کے سامنے سجدہ ریز ہے جس نےاسے پیدا کیا ، اس کی صورت گری کی اور اس کے کان اور اس کی آنکھیں تراشیں ، برکت والاہے اللہ جو بہترین خالق ہے ۔ "" پھر تشہد اور سلام کے درمیان میں یہ دعا پڑھتے ۔ "" اے اللہ ! بخش دے جو خطائیں میں نے پہلے کیں یا بعد میں کیں اور چھپا کر کہیں یا علانیہ کیں اور جو بھی زیادتی میں نے کی اور جس کا مجھ سے زیادہ تمھیں علم ہے ( اطاعت اور خیر میں ) تو ہی آگے کرنے والا ہے اور تو ہی پیچھے کرنے والا ہے اور تیرے سوا کوئی عبادت کا حقدار نہیں ۔ ""

A'raj reported that when the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) would start the prayer, he would pronounce takbir (Allah-o-Akbar) and then say: I turn my face (up to Thee), I am the first of the believers; and when he raised his head from ruku' he said: Allah listened to him who praised Him; O our Lord, praise be to Thee; and he said: He shaped (man) and how fine is his shape? And he (the narrator) said: When he pronounced salutation he said: O Allah, forgive me my earlier (sins), to the end of the hadith; and he did not say it between the Tashahhud and salutation (as mentioned above).

Hudhaifa reported: I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) one night and he started reciting al-Baqara. I thought that he would bow at the end of one hundred verses, but he proceeded on; I then thought that he would perhaps recite the whole (surah) in a rak'ah, but he proceeded and I thought he would perhaps bow on completing (this surah). He then started al-Nisa', and recited it; he then started Al-i-'Imran and recited leisurely. And when he recited the verses which referred to the Glory of Allah, he glorified (by saying Subhan Allah-Glory to my Lord the Great), and when he recited the verses which tell (how the Lord) is to be begged, he (the Holy Prophet) would then beg (from Him), and when he recited the verses dealing with protection from the Lord, he sought (His) protection and would then bow and say: Glory be to my Mighty Lord; his bowing lasted about the same length of time as his standing (and then on returning to the standing posture after ruku') he would say: Allah listened to him who praised Him, and he would then stand about the same length of time as he had spent in bowing. He would then prostrate himself and say: Glory be to my Lord most High, and his prostration lasted nearly the same length of time as his standing. In the hadith transmitted by Jarir the words are: He (the Holy Prophet) would say: Allah listened to him who praised Him, our Lord, to Thee i the praise.

Abdullah reported: I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and he lengthened it till I entertained an evil thought. It was said to him what that thought was. He said: I thought that I should sit down and forsake him.

Abdullah (b. Mas'ud) reported that a mention was made of a man who slept the whole night till morning. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: That is a man in whose ears (or in whose ear) the devil urinated.

Husain b. 'Ali narrated on the authority of (his father) 'Ali b. Abu Talib that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) came one night to see him ('Ali) and Fatimah (the daughter of the Holy Prophet) and said: Don't you observe (Tahajjud) prayer? I ('Ali) said: Messenger of Allah, verily our souls are in the hands of Allah and when He wants to awaken us, He awakens us. The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) went back when I said this to him. He was striking his hand on his thigh while returning, and I heard him say: Verily the man disputes with many things.
