A'isha reported: The Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) entered my house when a Jewess was with me and she was saying: Do you know that you would be put to trial in the grave? The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) trembled (on hearing this) and said: It is the Jews only who would-be put to trial. 'A'isha said: We passed some nights and then the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: Do you know that it has been revealed to me: You would be put to trial in the grave ? 'A'isha said: 1 heard the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) seeking refuge from the torment of the grave after this.

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَحَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى - قَالَ هَارُونُ: حَدَّثَنَا وَقَالَ حَرْمَلَةُ: - أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدِي امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ، وَهِيَ تَقُولُ: هَلْ شَعَرْتِ أَنَّكُمْ تُفْتَنُونَ فِي الْقُبُورِ؟ قَالَتْ: فَارْتَاعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ: «إِنَّمَا تُفْتَنُ يَهُودُ» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: فَلَبِثْنَا لَيَالِيَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «هَلْ شَعَرْتِ أَنَّهُ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّكُمْ تُفْتَنُونَ فِي الْقُبُورِ؟» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: «فَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، بَعْدُ يَسْتَعِيذُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ»

عروہ بن زبیر نے حدیث بیان کی کہ حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہانے کہا : رسول اللہ ﷺ میرے ہاں تشریف لائے جبکہ میرے پاس ایک یہودی عورت موجود تھی اور وہ کہہ رہی تھی : کیا تمہیں پتہ ہے کہ قبر و ں میں تمہارا امتحان ہوگا ؟عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں : اس پر رسول اللہ ﷺ خوفزدہ ہو گئے اور فرمایا : ’’یہودی کی آزمائش ہو گی ۔ ‘ ‘ حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے بتلایا : کچھ دن گزرنے کے بعد رسو اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا : ’’کیا تمہیں پتہ چلا مجھے وحی کی گئی ہے کہ تم قبرو ں میں آزمائے جاؤ گے؟ ‘ ‘ حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا : میں نے اس کے بعد رسو ل اللہﷺ کو سنا ‘ آپ عذاب قبر سے پناہ مانگتے تھے ۔

Abu Huraira reported. I heard the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) seeking refuge from the torment of the grave after this (after the revelation).

A'isha reported: There came to me two old women from the old Jewesses of Medina and said: The people of the grave are tormented in their graves. I contradicted them and I did not deem it proper to testify them. They went away and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) came to me and I said to him: Messenger of Allah I there came to me two old women from the old Jewesses of Medina and asserted that the people of the graves would be tormented therein. He (the Prophet) said: They told the truth; they would be tormented (so much) that the animals would listen to it. She ('A'isha) said: Never did I see him (the Holy Prophet) afterwards but seeking refuge from the torment of the grave in prayer.

Masruq reported this hadith on the authority of 'A'isha who said: Never did he (the Holy Prophet) say prayer after this in which I did not hear him seeking refuge from the torment of the grave.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) said: When any one of you utters tashahhud (in prayer) he must seek refuge with Allah from four (trials) and should thus say: O Allah! I seek refuge with Thee from the torment of the Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trial of life and death and from the evil of the trial of Masih al-Dajjal (Antichrist).

A'isha, the wife of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) reported: The Apostle of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) used to supplicate in prayer thus: O Allah! I seek refuge with Thee from the torment of the grave, and I seek refuge with Thee from the trial of the Masih al-Dajjal (Antichrist) and I seek refuge with Thee from the trial of life and death. O Allah! I seek refuge with Thee from sin and debt. She ('A'isha) reported: Someone said to him - (the Holy Prophet): Messenger of Allah! why is it that you so often seek refuge from debt? He said: When a (person) incurs debt, (he is obliged) to tell lies and break promise.
