Narrated Ibn `Abbas: (My mother) Umu-l-Fadl heard me reciting Wal Mursalati `Urfan (77) and said, O my son! By Allah, your recitation made me remember that it was the last Sura I heard from Allah's Apostle. He recited it in the Maghrib prayer.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : إِنَّ أُمَّ الْفَضْلِ سَمِعَتْهُ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ وَالْمُرْسَلاتِ عُرْفًا ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا بُنَيَّ ، وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ ذَكَّرْتَنِي بِقِرَاءَتِكَ هَذِهِ السُّورَةَ إِنَّهَا لَآخِرُ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ بِهَا فِي الْمَغْرِبِ .

ہم سے عبداللہ بن یوسف تنیسی نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمیں امام مالک نے ابن شہاب سے خبر دی، انہوں نے عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن عتبہ سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ام فضل رضی اللہ عنہا ( ان کی ماں ) نے انہیں «والمرسلات عرفا» پڑھتے ہوئے سنا۔ پھر کہا کہ اے بیٹے! تم نے اس سورت کی تلاوت کر کے مجھے یاد دلایا۔ میں آخر عمر میں نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو مغرب میں یہی سورت پڑھتے ہوئے سنتی تھی۔

Narrated Marwan bin Al-Hakam: Zaid bin Thabit said to me, Why do you recite very short Suras in the Maghrib prayer while I heard the Prophet reciting the longer of the two long Suras?

Narrated Abu Rafi`: I offered the `Isha' prayer behind Abu Huraira and he recited, Idha s-samaa'u n-shaqqat (84) and prostrated. On my inquiring, he said, I prostrated behind Abul-Qasim (the Prophet) (when he recited that Sura) and I will go on doing it till I meet him.

Narrated Al-Bara: The Prophet was on a journey and recited in one of the first two rak`at of the `Isha' prayer Wa t-teeni wa z-zaitun. (95)
