Narrated Jabir bin Samura: The People of Kufa complained against Sa`d to `Umar and the latter dismissed him and appointed `Ammar as their chief . They lodged many complaints against Sa`d and even they alleged that he did not pray properly. `Umar sent for him and said, O Aba 'Is-haq! These people claim that you do not pray properly. Abu 'Is-haq said, By Allah, I used to pray with them a prayer similar to that of Allah's Apostle and I never reduced anything of it. I used to prolong the first two rak`at of `Isha prayer and shorten the last two rak`at. `Umar said, O Aba 'Is-haq, this was what I thought about you. And then he sent one or more persons with him to Kufa so as to ask the people about him. So they went there and did not leave any mosque without asking about him. All the people praised him till they came to the mosque of the tribe of Bani `Abs; one of the men called Usama bin Qatada with a surname of Aba Sa`da stood up and said, As you have put us under an oath; I am bound to tell you that Sa`d never went himself with the army and never distributed (the war booty) equally and never did justice in legal verdicts. (On hearing it) Sa`d said, I pray to Allah for three things: O Allah! If this slave of yours is a liar and got up for showing off, give him a long life, increase his poverty and put him to trials. (And so it happened). Later on when that person was asked how he was, he used to reply that he was an old man in trial as the result of Sa`d's curse. `Abdul Malik, the sub narrator, said that he had seen him afterwards and his eyebrows were overhanging his eyes owing to old age and he used to tease and assault the small girls in the way.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : شَكَا أَهْلُ الْكُوفَةِ سَعْدًا إِلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، فَعَزَلَهُ وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَمَّارًا فَشَكَوْا حَتَّى ذَكَرُوا أَنَّهُ لَا يُحْسِنُ يُصَلِّي ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ ، إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّكَ لَا تُحْسِنُ تُصَلِّي ، قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ : أَمَّا أَنَا وَاللَّهِ فَإِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي بِهِمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا أَخْرِمُ عَنْهَا أُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ فَأَرْكُدُ فِي الْأُولَيَيْنِ وَأُخِفُّ فِي الْأُخْرَيَيْنِ ، قَالَ : ذَاكَ الظَّنُّ بِكَ يَا أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ ، فَأَرْسَلَ مَعَهُ رَجُلًا أَوْ رِجَالًا إِلَى الْكُوفَةِ فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُ أَهْلَ الْكُوفَةِ وَلَمْ يَدَعْ مَسْجِدًا إِلَّا سَأَلَ عَنْهُ وَيُثْنُونَ مَعْرُوفًا ، حَتَّى دَخَلَ مَسْجِدًا لِبَنِي عَبْسٍ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ يُكْنَى أَبَا سَعْدَةَ قَالَ : أَمَّا إِذْ نَشَدْتَنَا فَإِنَّ سَعْدًا كَانَ لَا يَسِيرُ بِالسَّرِيَّةِ وَلَا يَقْسِمُ بِالسَّوِيَّةِ وَلَا يَعْدِلُ فِي الْقَضِيَّةِ ، قَالَ سَعْدٌ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَأَدْعُوَنَّ بِثَلَاثٍ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ عَبْدُكَ هَذَا كَاذِبًا قَامَ رِيَاءً وَسُمْعَةً فَأَطِلْ عُمْرَهُ وَأَطِلْ فَقْرَهُ وَعَرِّضْهُ بِالْفِتَنِ ، وَكَانَ بَعْدُ إِذَا سُئِلَ يَقُولُ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ مَفْتُونٌ أَصَابَتْنِي دَعْوَةُ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ : فَأَنَا رَأَيْتُهُ بَعْدُ قَدْ سَقَطَ حَاجِبَاهُ عَلَى عَيْنَيْهِ مِنَ الْكِبَرِ ، وَإِنَّهُ لَيَتَعَرَّضُ لِلْجَوَارِي فِي الطُّرُقِ يَغْمِزُهُنَّ .

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے ابوعوانہ وضاح یشکری نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے عبدالملک بن عمیر نے جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے بیان کیا، کہا کہ اہل کوفہ نے سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ کی عمر فاروق رضی اللہ عنہ سے شکایت کی۔ اس لیے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان کو مغزول کر کے عمار رضی اللہ عنہ کو کوفہ کا حاکم بنایا، تو کوفہ والوں نے سعد کے متعلق یہاں تک کہہ دیا کہ وہ تو اچھی طرح نماز بھی نہیں پڑھا سکتے۔ چنانچہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان کو بلا بھیجا۔ آپ نے ان سے پوچھا کہ اے ابواسحاق! ان کوفہ والوں کا خیال ہے کہ تم اچھی طرح نماز نہیں پڑھا سکتے ہو۔ اس پر آپ نے جواب دیا کہ اللہ کی قسم! میں تو انہیں نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہی کی طرح نماز پڑھاتا تھا، اس میں کوتاہی نہیں کرتا عشاء کی نماز پڑھاتا تو اس کی دو پہلی رکعات میں ( قرآت ) لمبی کرتا اور دوسری دو رکعتیں ہلکی پڑھاتا۔ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ اے ابواسحاق! مجھ کو تم سے امید بھی یہی تھی۔ پھر آپ نے سعد رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ ایک یا کئی آدمیوں کو کوفہ بھیجا۔ قاصد نے ہر ہر مسجد میں جا کر ان کے متعلق پوچھا۔ سب نے آپ کی تعریف کی لیکن جب مسجد بنی عبس میں گئے۔ تو ایک شخص جس کا نام اسامہ بن قتادہ اور کنیت ابوسعدہ تھی کھڑا ہوا۔ اس نے کہا کہ جب آپ نے اللہ کا واسطہ دے کر پوچھا ہے تو ( سنیے کہ ) سعد نہ فوج کے ساتھ خود جہاد کرتے تھے، نہ مال غنیمت کی تقسیم صحیح کرتے تھے اور نہ فیصلے میں عدل و انصاف کرتے تھے۔ سعد رضی اللہ عنہ نے ( یہ سن کر ) فرمایا کہ اللہ کی قسم میں ( تمہاری اس بات پر ) تین دعائیں کرتا ہوں۔ اے اللہ! اگر تیرا یہ بندہ جھوٹا ہے اور صرف ریا و نمود کے لیے کھڑا ہوا ہے تو اس کی عمردراز کر اور اسے خوب محتاج بنا اور اسے فتنوں میں مبتلا کر۔ اس کے بعد ( وہ شخص اس درجہ بدحال ہوا کہ ) جب اس سے پوچھا جاتا تو کہتا کہ ایک بوڑھا اور پریشان حال ہوں مجھے سعد رضی اللہ عنہ کی بددعا لگ گئی۔ عبدالملک نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے اسے دیکھا اس کی بھویں بڑھاپے کی وجہ سے آنکھوں پر آ گئی تھی۔ لیکن اب بھی راستوں میں وہ لڑکیوں کو چھیڑتا۔

Narrated 'Ubada bin As-Samit: Allah's Apostle said, Whoever does not recite Al-Fatiha in his prayer, his prayer is invalid.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle entered the mosque and a person followed him. The man prayed and went to the Prophet and greeted him. The Prophet returned the greeting and said to him, Go back and pray, for you have not prayed. The man went back prayed in the same way as before, returned and greeted the Prophet who said, Go back and pray, for you have not prayed. This happened thrice. The man said, By Him Who sent you with the Truth, I cannot offer the prayer in a better way than this. Please, teach me how to pray. The Prophet said, When you stand for Prayer say Takbir and then recite from the Holy Qur'an (of what you know by heart) and then bow till you feel at ease. Then raise your head and stand up straight, then prostrate till you feel at ease during your prostration, then sit with calmness till you feel at ease (do not hurry) and do the same in all your prayers.

Narrated Jabir bin Samura: Sa`d said, I used to pray with them a prayer similar to that of Allah's Apostle (the prayer of Zuhr and `Asr) reducing nothing from them. I used to prolong the first two rak`at and shorten the last two rak`at. `Umar said to Sa`d This was what we thought about you.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Abi Qatada: My father said, The Prophet in Zuhr prayers used to recite Al-Fatiha along with two other Suras in the first two rak`at: a long one in the first rak`a and a shorter (Sura) in the second, and at times the verses were audible. In the `Asr prayer the Prophet used to recite Al-Fatiha and two more Suras in the first two rak`at and used to prolong the first rak`a. And he used to prolong the first rak`a of the Fajr prayer and shorten the second.

Narrated Abu Ma`mar: I asked Khabbab whether the Prophet used to recite the Qur'an in the Zuhr and the `Asr prayers. He replied in the affirmative. We said, How did you come to know that? He said, From the movement of his beard.
