Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr: Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said to the Prophet O Allah's Apostle! Teach me an invocation with which I may invoke Allah in my prayers. The Prophet said, Say: O Allah! I have wronged my soul very much (oppressed myself), and none forgives the sins but You; so please bestow Your Forgiveness upon me. No doubt, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ ، سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، عَلِّمْنِي دُعَاءً أَدْعُو بِهِ فِي صَلَاتِي ، قَالَ : قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مِنْ عِنْدِكَ مَغْفِرَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ .

ہم سے یحییٰ بن سلیمان نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا مجھ سے ابن وہب نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا مجھ کو عمرو نے خبر دی، انہیں یزید نے، انہیں ابوالخیر نے، انہوں نے عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا کہ ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کہا: یا رسول اللہ! مجھے ایسی دعا سکھائیے جو میں اپنی نماز میں کیا کروں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ یہ پڑھا کرو «اللهم إني ظلمت نفسي ظلما كثيرا،‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ولا يغفر الذنوب إلا أنت،‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ فاغفر لي من عندك مغفرة،‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ إنك أنت الغفور الرحيم‏ ‏‏.‏» ”اے اللہ! میں نے اپنی جان پر بہت ظلم کیا اور تیرے سوا گناہوں کو اور کوئی نہیں بخشتا، پس میرے گناہ اپنے پاس سے بخش دے، بلاشبہ تو بڑا مغفرت کرنے والا، بڑا رحم کرنے والا ہے۔“

Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet said, Gabriel called me and said, 'Allah has heard the statement of your people and what they replied to you.'

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: As-Salami: Allah's Apostle used to teach his companions to perform the prayer of Istikhara for each and every matter just as he used to teach them the Suras from the Qur'an He used to say, If anyone of you intends to do some thing, he should offer a two rak`at prayer other than the compulsory prayers, and after finishing it, he should say: O Allah! I consult You, for You have all knowledge, and appeal to You to support me with Your Power and ask for Your Bounty, for You are able to do things while I am not, and You know while I do not; and You are the Knower of the Unseen. O Allah If You know It this matter (name your matter) is good for me both at present and in the future, (or in my religion), in my this life and in the Hereafter, then fulfill it for me and make it easy for me, and then bestow Your Blessings on me in that matter. O Allah! If You know that this matter is not good for me in my religion, in my this life and in my coming Hereafter (or at present or in the future), then divert me from it and choose for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me be pleased with it. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, When anyone of you goes to bed, he should dust it off thrice with the edge of his garment, and say: Bismika Rabbi Wada`tu janbi, wa bika arfa'hu. In amsakta nafsi faghfir laha, wa in arsaltaha fahfazha bima tahfaz bihi 'ibadaka-s-salihin.

Narrated Juhaifa: When the Prophet went to bed, he used to say, Allhumma bismika ahya wa amut. And when he got Up in the mornings he used to say, Al hamdu li l-lahi al-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilaihi-nnushur.
