Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: The Prophet said, Whoever has eaten garlic or onion, should keep away from us, or should keep away from our mosque and should stay at home. Ibn Wahb said, Once a plate full of cooked vegetables was brought to the Prophet at Badr. Detecting a bad smell from it, he asked about the dish and was informed of the kinds of vegetables in contained. He then said, Bring it near, and so it was brought near to one of his companions who was with him. When the Prophet saw it, he disliked eating it and said (to his companion), Eat, for I talk in secret to ones whom you do not talk to.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ أَكَلَ ثُومًا أَوْ بَصَلًا فَلْيَعْتَزِلْنَا ، أَوْ لِيَعْتَزِلْ مَسْجِدَنَا وَلْيَقْعُدْ فِي بَيْتِهِ وَإِنَّهُ أُتِيَ بِبَدْرٍ ، قَالَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ : يَعْنِي : طَبَقًا فِيهِ خَضِرَاتٌ مِنْ بُقُولٍ ، فَوَجَدَ لَهَا رِيحًا ، فَسَأَلَ عَنْهَا ؟ ، فَأُخْبِرَ بِمَا فِيهَا مِنَ الْبُقُولِ ، فَقَالَ : قَرِّبُوهَا ، فَقَرَّبُوهَا إِلَى بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ كَانَ مَعَهُ ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ كَرِهَ أَكْلَهَا ، قَالَ : كُلْ فَإِنِّي أُنَاجِي مَنْ لَا تُنَاجِي ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ عُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ بِقِدْرٍ فِيهِ خَضِرَاتٌ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ اللَّيْثُ وَأَبُو صَفْوَانَ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ قِصَّةَ الْقِدْرِ فَلَا أَدْرِي هُوَ مِنْ قَوْلِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَوْ فِي الْحَدِيثِ .

ہم سے احمد بن صالح نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے عبداللہ بن وہب نے بیان کیا، کہا مجھے یونس نے خبر دی، انہیں ابن شہاب نے کہا کہ مجھ کو عطاء بن ابی رباح نے خبر دی، انہیں جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”جو شخص کچی لہسن یا پیاز کھائے وہ ہم سے دور رہے یا ( یہ فرمایا کہ ) ہماری مسجد سے دور رہے اور اپنے گھر میں بیٹھا رہے ( یہاں تک کہ وہ بو رفع ہو جائے ) اور آپ کے پاس ایک طباق لایا گیا جس میں سبزیاں تھیں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس میں بو محسوس کی، پھر آپ کو اس میں رکھی ہوئی سبزیوں کے متعلق بتایا گیا تو آپ نے اپنے بعض صحابی کی طرف جو آپ کے ساتھ تھے اشارہ کر کے فرمایا کہ ان کے پاس لے جاؤ لیکن جب ان صحابی نے اسے دیکھا تو انہوں نے بھی اسے کھانا پسند نہیں کیا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس پر ان سے فرمایا کہ تم کھا لو کیونکہ میں جس سے سرگوشی کرتا ہوں تم اس سے نہیں کرتے۔ ( آپ کی مراد فرشتوں سے تھی ) سعید بن کثیر بن عفیر نے جو امام بخاری رحمہ اللہ کے شیخ ہیں، عبداللہ بن وہب سے اس حدیث میں یوں روایت کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس ہانڈی لائی گئی جس میں ترکاریاں تھیں اور لیث و ابوصفوان عبداللہ بن سعید اموی نے بھی اس حدیث کو یونس سے روایت کیا لیکن انہوں نے ہانڈی کا قصہ نہیں بیان کیا، اب میں نہیں جانتا کہ ہانڈی کا قصہ حدیث میں داخل ہے یا زہری نے بڑھا دیا ہے۔

Narrated Jubair bin Mut`im: A lady came to Allah's Apostle and she talked to him about something, and he gave her some order. She said, O Allah's Apostle! If I should not find you? He said, If you should not find me, then go to Abu Bakr. Ibrahim bin Sa`d said, As if she meant the death (of the Prophet).

Narrated Humaid bin 'Abdur-Rahman that he heard Mu'awiya talking to a group of people from Quraish at Al-Madina, and on mentioning Ka'b Al-Ashbar, he said, He was one of the most truthful of those who used to talk about the people of the Scripture, yet we used to detect certain faults in his information.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The people of the Book used to read the Torah in Hebrew and then explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. Allah's Apostle said (to the Muslims). Do not believe the people of the Book, nor disbelieve them, but say, 'We believe in Allah and whatever is revealed to us, and whatever is revealed to you.'

Narrated Ubaidullah: Ibn `Abbas said, Why do you ask the people of the scripture about anything while your Book (Qur'an) which has been revealed to Allah's Apostle is newer and the latest? You read it pure, undistorted and unchanged, and Allah has told you that the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) changed their scripture and distorted it, and wrote the scripture with their own hands and said, 'It is from Allah,' to sell it for a little gain. Does not the knowledge which has come to you prevent you from asking them about anything? No, by Allah, we have never seen any man from them asking you regarding what has been revealed to you!

Narrated Jundab bin `Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, Recite (and study) the Qur'an as long as you are in agreement as to its interpretation and meanings, but when you have differences regarding its interpretation and meanings, then you should stop reciting it (for the time being.) (See Hadith No 581, Vol. 6)

Narrated Jundab bin `Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, Recite (and study) the Qur'an as long as your hearts are in agreement as to its meanings, but if you have differences as regards its meaning, stop reading it then.
