Narrated `Aisha: the mother of the faithful believers: Allah's Apostle in his last illness said, Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer. I said, If Abu Bakr stood in your place, he would not be able to make the people hear him owing to his weeping. So please order `Umar to lead the prayer. He said, Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer. I said to Hafsa, Say to him, 'Abu Bakr is a softhearted man and if he stood in your place he would not be able to make the people hear him owing to his weeping. So order `Umar to lead the people in the prayer.' Hafsa did so but Allah's Apostle said, Keep quiet. Verily you are the companions of (Prophet) Joseph. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer. Hafsa said to me, I never got any good from you.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ فِي مَرَضِهِ : مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : قُلْتُ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِذَا قَامَ فِي مَقَامِكَ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النَّاسَ مِنَ الْبُكَاءِ فَمُرْ عُمَرَ فَلْيُصَلِّ ، فَقَالَ : مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ ، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ لِحَفْصَةَ : قُولِي لَهُ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِذَا قَامَ فِي مَقَامِكَ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النَّاسَ مِنَ الْبُكَاءِ فَمُرْ عُمَرَ فَلْيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ ، فَفَعَلَتْ حَفْصَةُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَهْ إِنَّكُنَّ لَأَنْتُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ ، مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلّ لِلنَّاسِ ، قَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ لِعَائِشَةَ : مَا كُنْتُ لِأُصِيبَ مِنْكِ خَيْرًا .

ہم سے اسماعیل بن ابی اویس نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے امام مالک بن انس نے ہشام بن عروہ سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے اپنے باپ سے، انہوں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مرض الوفات میں فرمایا کہ ابوبکر سے لوگوں کو نماز پڑھانے کے لیے کہو۔ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کی کہ ابوبکر اگر آپ کی جگہ کھڑے ہوئے تو رونے کی وجہ سے لوگوں کو اپنی آواز نہ سنا سکیں گے۔ اس لیے آپ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے فرمائیے کہ وہ نماز پڑھائیں۔ آپ نے پھر فرمایا کہ نہیں ابوبکر ہی سے نماز پڑھانے کے لیے کہو۔ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا بیان کرتی ہیں کہ میں نے حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کہا کہ تم بھی تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عرض کرو کہ اگر ابوبکر آپ کی جگہ کھڑے ہوئے تو آپ کو یاد کر کے گریہ و زاری کی وجہ سے لوگوں کو قرآن نہ سنا سکیں گے۔ اس لیے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہئے کہ وہ نماز پڑھائیں۔ حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے بھی کہہ دیا۔ اس پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا۔ بس چپ رہو، تم لوگ صواحب یوسف سے کسی طرح کم نہیں ہو۔ ابوبکر سے کہو کہ وہ نماز پڑھائیں۔ بعد میں حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کہا۔ بھلا مجھ کو تم سے کہیں بھلائی ہونی ہے۔

Narrated An-Nu`man bin 'Bashir: The Prophet said, Straighten your rows or Allah will alter your faces.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, Martyrs are those who die because of drowning, plague, an Abdominal disease, or of being buried alive by a falling building.

And then he added, If the people knew the Reward for the Zuhr prayer in its early time, they would race for it. If they knew the reward for the `Isha' and the Fajr prayers in congregation, they would join them even if they had to crawl. If they knew the reward for the first row, they would draw lots for it.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, The Imam is (appointed) to be followed. So do not differ from him, bow when he bows, and say, Rabbana-lakal hamd if he says Sami`a l-lahu liman hamidah ; and if he prostrates, prostrate (after him), and if he prays sitting, pray sitting all together, and straighten the rows for the prayer, as the straightening of the rows is amongst those things which make your prayer a correct and perfect one.
