Narrated Kharija bin Zaid bin Thabit: Um Al-`Ala an Ansari woman who had given a pledge of allegiance to Allah's Apostle told me:, The Muhajirln (emigrants) were distributed amongst us by drawing lots, and we got `Uthman bin Maz'un in our share. We made him stay with us in our house. Then he suffered from a disease which proved fatal. When he died and was given a bath and was shrouded in his clothes. Allah's Apostle came, I said, (addressing the dead body), 'O Aba As-Sa'ib! May Allah be Merciful to you! I testify that Allah has honored you.' Allah's Apostle said, 'How do you know that Allah has honored him? I replied, 'Let my father be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Apostle! On whom else shall Allah bestow. His honor?' Allah's Apostle said, 'As for him, by Allah, death has come to him. By Allah, I wish him all good (from Allah). By Allah, in spite of the fact that I am Allah's Apostle, I do not know what Allah will do to me. , Um Al-`Ala added, By Allah, I will never attest the righteousness of anybody after that.

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُفَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي خَارِجَةُ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، أَنَّ أُمَّ الْعَلَاءِ ، امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، بَايَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهُمُ اقْتَسَمُوا الْمُهَاجِرِينَ قُرْعَةً ، قَالَتْ : فَطَارَ لَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ وَأَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي أَبْيَاتِنَا ، فَوَجِعَ وَجَعَهُ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ ، فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ غُسِّلَ وَكُفِّنَ فِي أَثْوَابِهِ ، دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكَ أَبَا السَّائِبِ فَشَهَادَتِي عَلَيْكَ لَقَدْ أَكْرَمَكَ اللَّهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : وَمَا يُدْرِيكِ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَكْرَمَهُ ؟ ، فَقُلْتُ : بِأَبِي أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَمَنْ يُكْرِمُهُ اللَّهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَمَّا هُوَ فَوَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ جَاءَهُ الْيَقِينُ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو لَهُ الْخَيْرَ ، وَوَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي وَأَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَاذَا يُفْعَلُ بِي ، فَقَالَتْ : وَاللَّهِ لَا أُزَكِّي بَعْدَهُ أَحَدًا أَبَدًا .

ہم سے سعید بن عفیر نے بیان کیا، کہا مجھ سے لیث بن سعد نے بیان کیا، کہا مجھ سے عقیل نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابن شہاب نے، انہیں خارجہ بن ثابت نے خبر دی ‘ انہیں ام علاء رضی اللہ عنہا نے جو ایک انصاری عورت تھیں جنہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے بیعت کی تھی خبر دی کہ انہوں نے مہاجرین کے ساتھ سلسلہ اخوت قائم کرنے کے لیے قرعہ اندازی کی تو ہمارا قرعہ عثمان بن مظعون رضی اللہ عنہ کے نام نکلا۔ پھر ہم نے انہیں اپنے گھر میں ٹھہرایا۔ اس کے بعد انہیں ایک بیماری ہو گئی جس میں ان کی وفات ہو گئی۔ جب ان کی وفات ہو گئی تو انہیں غسل دیا گیا اور ان کے کپڑوں کا کفن دیا گیا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشریف لائے۔ میں نے کہا ابوالسائب ( عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ ) تم پر اللہ کی رحمت ہو، تمہارے متعلق میری گواہی ہے کہ تمہیں اللہ نے عزت بخشی ہے؟ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس پر فرمایا کہ تمہیں کیسے معلوم ہوا کہ اللہ نے انہیں عزت بخشی ہے۔ میں نے عرض کیا، میرے ماں باپ آپ پر قربان ہوں یا رسول اللہ! پھر اللہ کسے عزت بخشے گا؟ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا، جہاں تک ان کا تعلق ہے تو یقینی چیز ( موت ) ان پر آ چکی ہے اور اللہ کی قسم میں بھی ان کے لیے بھلائی کی امید رکھتا ہوں اور اللہ کی قسم میں رسول اللہ ہونے کے باوجود حتمی طور پر نہیں جانتا کہ میرے ساتھ کیا کیا جائے گا۔ انہوں نے اس کے بعد کہا کہ اللہ کی قسم اس کے بعد میں کبھی کسی کی برات نہیں کروں گی۔

Narrated Az-Zuhri: Regarding the above narration, The Prophet said, I do not know what Allah will do to him (Uthman bin Maz'un). Um Al-`Ala said, I felt very sorry for that, and then I slept and saw in a dream a flowing spring for `Uthman bin Maz'un, and told Allah's Apostle of that, and he said, That flowing spring symbolizes his good deeds.

Narrated Abu Qatada Al-Ansari: (a companion of the Prophet and one of his cavalry men) I heard Allah's Apostle saying, A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan; so, if anyone of you had a bad dream which he disliked, then he should spit on his left and seek refuge with Allah from it, for it will not harm him.

Narrated Ibn `Umar: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, While I was sleeping, I was given a bowl full of milk (in a dream), and I drank of it to my fill until I noticed its wetness coming out of my nails, and then I gave the rest of it to `Umar. They (the people) asked, What have you interpreted (about the dream)? O Allah's Apostle? He said, (It is Religious) knowledge.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: Allah's Apostle said, While I was sleeping, I was given a bowl full of milk (in the dream) and I drank from it (to my fill) till I noticed its wetness coming out of my limbs. Then I gave the rest of it to `Umar bin Al-Khattab. The persons sitting around him, asked, What have you interpreted (about the dream) O Allah's Apostle? He said, (It is religious) knowledge.

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Allah's Apostle said, While I was sleeping, some people were displayed before me (in a dream). They were wearing shirts, some of which were merely covering their breasts, and some a bit longer. Then there passed before me, `Umar bin Al-Khattab wearing a shirt he was dragging it (on the ground behind him.) They (the people) asked, What have you interpreted (about the dream) O Allah's Apostle? He said, The Religion.

Then `Umar bin Al-Khattab was shown to me and he was wearing a shirt which he was dragging (behind him). They asked. What have you interpreted (about the dream)? O Allah's Apostle? He said, The religion.
