Narrated Zahdam al-Jarmi: We were sitting with Abu Musa Al-Ash'sari, and as there were ties of friendship and mutual favors between us and his tribe. His meal was presented before him and there was chicken meat in it. Among those who were present there was a man from Bani Taimillah having a red complexion as a non-Arab freed slave, and that man did not approach the meal. Abu Musa said to him, Come along! I have seen Allah's Apostle eating of that (i.e., chicken). The man said, I have seen it (chickens) eating something I regarded as dirty, and so I have taken an oath that I shall not eat (its meat) chicken. Abu Musa said, Come along! I will inform you about it (i.e., your oath). Once we went to Allah's Apostle in company with a group of Ash'airiyin, asking him for mounts while he was distributing some camels from the camels of Zakat. (Aiyub said, I think he said that the Prophet was in an angry mood at the time. ) The Prophet said, 'By Allah! I will not give you mounts, and I have nothing to mount you on.' After we had left, some camels of booty were brought to Allah's Apostle and he said, Where are those Ash`ariyin? Where are those Ash`ariyin? So we went (to him) and he gave us five very fat good-looking camels. We mounted them and went away, and then I said to my companions, 'We went to Allah's Apostle to give us mounts, but he took an oath that he would not give us mounts, and then later on he sent for us and gave us mounts, perhaps Allah's Apostle forgot his oath. By Allah, we will never be successful, for we have taken advantage of the fact that Allah's Apostle forgot to fulfill his oath. So let us return to Allah's Apostle to remind him of his oath.' We returned and said, 'O Allah's Apostle! We came to you and asked you for mounts, but you took an oath that you would not give us mounts) but later on you gave us mounts, and we thought or considered that you have forgotten your oath.' The Prophet said, 'Depart, for Allah has given you Mounts. By Allah, Allah willing, if I take an oath and then later find another thing better than that, I do what is better, and make expiation for the oath.'

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ الْقَاسِمِ الْتَّمِيمِيِّ ، عَنْ زَهْدَمٍ الْجَرْمِيِّ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ أَبِي مُوسَى وَكَانَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ هَذَا الْحَيِّ ، مِنْ جَرْمٍ إِخَاءٌ وَمَعْرُوفٌ ، قَالَ : فَقُدِّمَ طَعَامٌ ، قَالَ : وَقُدِّمَ فِي طَعَامِهِ لَحْمُ دَجَاجٍ ، قَالَ : وَفِي الْقَوْمِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَيْمِ اللَّهِ أَحْمَرُ كَأَنَّهُ مَوْلًى ، قَالَ : فَلَمْ يَدْنُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو مُوسَى : ادْنُ فَإِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ يَأْكُلُ شَيْئًا قَذِرْتُهُ ، فَحَلَفْتُ أَنْ لَا أَطْعَمَهُ أَبَدًا ، فَقَالَ : ادْنُ أُخْبِرْكَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنْ الْأَشْعَرِيِّينَ أَسْتَحْمِلُهُ ، وَهُوَ يَقْسِمُ نَعَمًا مِنْ نَعَمِ الصَّدَقَةِ ، قَالَ أَيُّوبُ : أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ : وَهُوَ غَضْبَانُ ، قَالَ : وَاللَّهِ لَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ وَمَا عِنْدِي مَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ ، قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقْنَا ، فَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَهْبِ إِبِلٍ ، فَقِيلَ : أَيْنَ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَشْعَرِيُّونَ ، فَأَتَيْنَا فَأَمَرَ لَنَا بِخَمْسِ ذَوْدٍ غُرِّ الذُّرَى ، قَالَ : فَانْدَفَعْنَا ، فَقُلْتُ لِأَصْحَابِي : أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَسْتَحْمِلُهُ ، فَحَلَفَ أَنْ لَا يَحْمِلَنَا ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْنَا فَحَمَلَنَا ، نَسِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمِينَهُ ، وَاللَّهِ لَئِنْ تَغَفَّلْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمِينَهُ لَا نُفْلِحُ أَبَدًا ، ارْجِعُوا بِنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلْنُذَكِّرْهُ يَمِينَهُ ، فَرَجَعْنَا فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ ، اللَّهِ أَتَيْنَاكَ نَسْتَحْمِلُكَ ، فَحَلَفْتَ أَنْ لَا تَحْمِلَنَا ثُمَّ حَمَلْتَنَا ، فَظَنَنَّا أَوْ فَعَرَفْنَا أَنَّكَ نَسِيتَ يَمِينَكَ ، قَالَ : انْطَلِقُوا ، فَإِنَّمَا حَمَلَكُمُ اللَّهُ ، إِنِّي وَاللَّهِ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا أَحْلِفُ عَلَى يَمِينٍ ، فَأَرَى غَيْرَهَا خَيْرًا مِنْهَا ، إِلَّا أَتَيْتُ الَّذِي هُوَ خَيْرٌ ، وَتَحَلَّلْتُهَا ، تَابَعَهُ حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، وَالْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ الْكُلَيْبِيِّ .

ہم سے علی بن حجر نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے اسماعیل بن ابراہیم نے بیان کیا، ان سے ایوب سختیانی نے، ان سے قاسم تمیمی نے، ان سے زہدم جرمی نے بیان کیا کہ ہم ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس تھے اور ہمارے قبیلہ اور اس قبیلہ جرم میں بھائی چارگی اور باہمی حسن معاملہ کی روش تھی۔ راوی نے بیان کیا کہ پھر کھانا لایا گیا اور کھانے میں مرغی کا گوشت بھی تھا۔ راوی نے بیان کیا کہ حاضرین میں بنی تیم اللہ کا ایک شخص سرخ رنگ کا بھی تھا جیسے مولیٰ ہو۔ بیان کیا کہ وہ شخص کھانے پر نہیں آیا تو موسیٰ رضی اللہ عنہ نے اس سے کہا کہ شریک ہو جاؤ، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو اس کا گوشت کھاتے دیکھا ہے۔ اس شخص نے کہا کہ میں نے اسے گندگی کھاتے دیکھا تھا جب سے اس سے گھن آنے لگی اور اسی وقت میں نے قسم کھا لی کہ کبھی اس کا گوشت نہیں کھاؤں گا۔ ابوموسیٰ نے کہا: قریب آؤ میں تمہیں اس کے متعلق بتاؤں گا۔ ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے یہاں اشعریوں کی ایک جماعت کے ساتھ آئے اور میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سواری کا جانور مانگا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس وقت صدقہ کے اونٹوں میں سے تقسیم کر رہے تھے۔ ایوب نے بیان کیا کہ میرا خیال ہے کہ ابوموسیٰ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس وقت غصہ تھے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اللہ کی قسم! میں تمہیں سواری کے جانور نہیں دے سکتا اور نہ میرے پاس کوئی ایسی چیز ہے جو سواری کے لیے تمہیں دے سکوں۔ بیان کیا کہ پھر ہم واپس آ گئے۔ پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس غنیمت کے اونٹ آئے، تو پوچھا گیا کہ اشعریوں کی جماعت کہاں ہے۔ ہم حاضر ہوئے تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں پانچ عمدہ اونٹ دئیے جانے کا حکم دیا۔ بیان کیا کہ ہم وہاں سے روانہ ہوئے تو میں نے اپنے ساتھیوں سے کہا کہ ہم پہلے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس سواری کے لیے آئے تھے تو آپ نے قسم کھا لی تھی کہ سواری کا انتظام نہیں کر سکتے۔ پھر ہمیں بلا بھیجا اور سواری کا جانور عنایت فرمائے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنی قسم بھول گئے ہوں گے۔ واللہ! اگر ہم نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو آپ کی قسم کے بارے میں غفلت میں رکھا تو ہم کبھی کامیاب نہیں ہوں گے۔ چلو ہم سب آپ کے پاس واپس چلیں اور آپ کو آپ کی قسم یاد دلائیں۔ چنانچہ ہم واپس آئے اور عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! ہم پہلے آئے تھے اور آپ سے سواری کا جانور مانگا تھا تو آپ نے قسم کھا لی تھی کہ آپ اس کا انتظام نہیں کر سکتے، ہم نے سمجھا کہ آپ اپنی قسم بھول گئے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ جاؤ، تمہیں اللہ نے سواری دی ہے، واللہ اگر اللہ نے چاہا تو میں جب بھی کوئی قسم کھا لوں اور پھر دوسری چیز کو اس کے مقابل بہتر سمجھوں تو وہی کروں گا جو بہتر ہو گا اور اپنی قسم توڑ دوں گا۔ اس روایت کی متابعت حماد بن زید نے ایوب سے کی، ان سے ابوقلابہ اور قاسم بن عاصم کلیبی نے۔

Narrated `Abdur-Rahman bin Samura: Allah's Apostle said, (O `Abdur-Rahman!) Do not seek to be a ruler, for, if you are given the authority of ruling without your asking for it, then Allah will help you; but if you are given it by your asking, then you will be held responsible for it (i.e. Allah will not help you ) . And if you take an oath to do something and later on find another thing, better than that, then do what is better and make expiation for (the dissolution of) your oath.

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: I became sick so Allah's Apostle and Abu Bakr came on foot to pay me a visit. When they came, I was unconscious. Allah's Apostle performed ablution and he poured over me the water (of his ablution) and I came to my senses and said, O Allah's Apostle! What shall I do regarding my property? How shall I distribute it? The Prophet did not reply till the Divine Verses of inheritance were revealed .

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, 'Beware of suspicion, for it is the worst of false tales and don't look for the other's faults and don't spy and don't hate each other, and don't desert (cut your relations with) one another O Allah's slaves, be brothers! (See Hadith No. 90)

Narrated `Aisha: Fatima and Al `Abbas came to Abu Bakr, seeking their share from the property of Allah's Apostle and at that time, they were asking for their land at Fadak and their share from Khaibar.

Abu Bakr said to them, I have heard from Allah's Apostle saying, 'Our property cannot be inherited, and whatever we leave is to be spent in charity, but the family of Muhammad may take their provisions from this property. Abu Bakr added, By Allah, I will not leave the procedure I saw Allah's Apostle following during his lifetime concerning this property. Therefore Fatima left Abu Bakr and did not speak to him till she died.
