Narrated Usama bin Zaid: That Allah's Apostle rode over a donkey covered with a Fadakiya (velvet sheet) and Usama was riding behind him. He was visiting Sa`d bin 'Ubada (who was sick) in the dwelling place of Bani Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj and this incident happened before the battle of Badr. They proceeded till they passed by a gathering in which `Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul was present., and that was before `Abdullah bin Ubat embraced Islam. In that gathering there were Muslims, pagan idolators and Jews, and among the Muslims there was `Abdullah bin Rawaha. When a cloud of dust raised by (the movement of ) the animal covered that gathering, `Abdullah bin Ubai covered his nose with his garment and said, Do not cover us with dust. Allah's Apostle greeted them, stopped, dismounted and invited them to Allah (i.e. to embrace Islam) and recited to them the Holy Qur'an. On that `Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul said to him, O man! There is nothing better than what you say, if it is the truth. So do not trouble us with it in our gatherings, but if somebody comes to you, you can preach to him. On that `Abdullah bin Rawaha said Yes, O Allah's Apostle! Call on us in our gathering, for we love that. So the Muslims, the pagans and the Jews started abusing one another till they were about to fight with one another. Allah's Apostle kept on quietening them till all of them became quiet, and then Allah's Apostle rode his animal and proceeded till he entered upon Sa`d bin 'Ubada. Allah's Apostle said, O Sa`d! Didn't you hear what Abu Habab said? (meaning `Abdullah bin Unbar). He said so-and-so. Sa`d bin Ubada said, O Allah's Apostle! Let my father be sacrificed for you ! Excuse and forgive him for, by Him Who revealed to you the Book, Allah sent the Truth which was revealed to you at the time when the people of this town had decided to crown him (`Abdullah bin Ubai) as their ruler. So when Allah had prevented that with the Truth He had given you, he was choked by that, and that caused him to behave in such an impolite manner which you had noticed. So Allah's Apostle excused him. (It was the custom of) Allah's Apostle and his companions to excuse the pagans and the people of the scripture (Christians and Jews) as Allah ordered them, and they used to be patient when annoyed (by them). Allah said: 'You shall certainly hear much that will grieve you from those who received the Scripture before you.....and from the pagans (3.186) He also said: 'Many of the people of the scripture wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed. .... (2.109) So Allah's Apostle used to apply what Allah had ordered him by excusing them till he was allowed to fight against them. When Allah's Apostle had fought the battle of Badr and Allah killed whomever He killed among the chiefs of the infidels and the nobles of Quraish, and Allah's Apostle and his companions had returned with victory and booty, bringing with them some of the chiefs of the infidels and the nobles of the Quraish as captives. `Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul and the pagan idolators who were with him, said, This matter (Islam) has now brought out its face (triumphed), so give Allah's Apostle the pledge of allegiance (for embracing Islam.) . Then they became Muslims.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ . ح حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَخِي ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَتِيقٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكِبَ عَلَى حِمَارٍ عَلَيْهِ قَطِيفَةٌ فَدَكِيَّةٌ وَأُسَامَةُ وَرَاءَهُ يَعُودُ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ فِي بَنِي حَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ قَبْلَ وَقْعَةِ بَدْرٍ ، فَسَارَا حَتَّى مَرَّا بِمَجْلِسٍ فِيهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ ابْنُ سَلُولَ ، وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ ، فَإِذَا فِي الْمَجْلِسِ أَخْلَاطٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ عَبَدَةِ الْأَوْثَانِ وَالْيَهُودِ ، وَفِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ ، فَلَمَّا غَشِيَتِ الْمَجْلِسَ عَجَاجَةُ الدَّابَّةِ ، خَمَّرَ ابْنُ أُبَيٍّ أَنْفَهُ بِرِدَائِهِ وَقَالَ : لَا تُغَبِّرُوا عَلَيْنَا ، فَسَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ ، ثُمَّ وَقَفَ فَنَزَلَ فَدَعَاهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ ، وَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ ابْنُ سَلُولَ : أَيُّهَا الْمَرْءُ لَا أَحْسَنَ مِمَّا تَقُولُ ، إِنْ كَانَ حَقًّا فَلَا تُؤْذِنَا بِهِ فِي مَجَالِسِنَا ، فَمَنْ جَاءَكَ فَاقْصُصْ عَلَيْهِ . قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ : بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَاغْشَنَا فِي مَجَالِسِنَا فَإِنَّا نُحِبُّ ذَلِكَ ، فَاسْتَبَّ الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ وَالْيَهُودُ حَتَّى كَادُوا يَتَثَاوَرُونَ ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُخَفِّضُهُمْ حَتَّى سَكَتُوا ، ثُمَّ رَكِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَابَّتَهُ ، فَسَارَ حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيْ سَعْدُ ، أَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ مَا قَالَ أَبُو حُباب ؟ يُرِيدُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أُبَيٍّ ، قَالَ : كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ : أَيْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ اعْفُ عَنْهُ وَاصْفَحْ ، فَوَالَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ لَقَدْ جَاءَ اللَّهُ بِالْحَقِّ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكَ ، وَلَقَدِ اصْطَلَحَ أَهْلُ هَذِهِ الْبَحْرَةِ عَلَى أَنْ يُتَوِّجُوهُ وَيُعَصِّبُوهُ بِالْعِصَابَةِ ، فَلَمَّا رَدَّ اللَّهُ ذَلِكَ بِالْحَقِّ الَّذِي أَعْطَاكَ شَرِقَ بِذَلِكَ فَذَلِكَ فَعَلَ بِهِ مَا رَأَيْتَ ، فَعَفَا عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ يَعْفُونَ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَأَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ كَمَا أَمَرَهُمُ اللَّهُ ، وَيَصْبِرُونَ عَلَى الْأَذَى ، قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ سورة آل عمران آية 186 الْآيَةَ وَقَالَ : وَدَّ كَثِيرٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ سورة البقرة آية 109 ، فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَأَوَّلُ فِي الْعَفْوِ عَنْهُمْ مَا أَمَرَهُ اللَّهُ بِهِ حَتَّى أَذِنَ لَهُ فِيهِمْ ، فَلَمَّا غَزَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَدْرًا ، فَقَتَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مَنْ قَتَلَ مِنْ صَنَادِيدِ الْكُفَّارِ وَسَادَةِ قُرَيْشٍ ، فَقَفَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ مَنْصُورِينَ غَانِمِينَ مَعَهُمْ أُسَارَى مِنْ صَنَادِيدِ الْكُفَّارِ ، وَسَادَةِ قُرَيْشٍ . قَالَ ابْنُ أُبَيٍّ ابْنُ سَلُولَ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ عَبَدَةِ الْأَوْثَانِ : هَذَا أَمْرٌ قَدْ تَوَجَّهَ ، فَبَايِعُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ ، فَأَسْلَمُوا .
ہم سے ابوالیمان نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم کو شعیب نے خبر دی، انہیں زہری نے (دوسری سند) اور ہم سے اسماعیل بن ابی اویس نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھ سے میرے بھائی عبدالحمید نے بیان کیا، ان سے سلیمان نے بیان کیا، ان سے محمد بن ابی عتیق نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابن ابی شہاب نے بیان کیا، ان سے عروہ بن زبیر نے اور انہیں اسامہ بن زید رضی اللہ عنہما نے خبر دی کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک گدھے پر سوار ہوئے جس پر فدک کا بنا ہوا ایک کپڑا بچھا ہوا تھا، اسامہ آپ کے پیچھے سوار تھے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بنی حارث بن خزرج میں سعد بن عبادہ رضی اللہ عنہ کی عیادت کے لیے تشریف لے جا رہے تھے، یہ واقعہ غزوہ بدر سے پہلے کا ہے یہ دونوں روانہ ہوئے اور راستے میں ایک مجلس سے گزرے جس میں عبداللہ بن ابی ابن سلول بھی تھا۔ عبداللہ نے ابھی تک اپنے اسلام کا اعلان نہیں کیا تھا۔ اس مجلس میں کچھ مسلمان بھی تھے۔ بتوں کی پرستش کرنے والے کچھ مشرکین بھی تھے اور کچھ یہودی بھی تھے۔ مسلمان شرکاء میں عبداللہ بن رواحہ بھی تھے۔ جب مجلس پر ( نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ) سواری کا غبار اڑ کر پڑا تو عبداللہ بن ابی نے اپنی چادر ناک پر رکھ لی اور کہنے لگا کہ ہم پر غبار نہ اڑاؤ، اس کے بعد نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ( قریب پہنچنے کے بعد ) انہیں سلام کیا اور کھڑے ہو گئے۔ پھر سواری سے اتر کر انہیں اللہ کی طرف بلایا اور قرآن مجید کی آیتیں انہیں پڑھ کر سنائیں۔ اس پر عبداللہ بن ابی ابن سلول نے کہا کہ بھلے آدمی جو کلام تم نے پڑھا اس سے بہتر کلام نہیں ہو سکتا۔ اگرچہ واقعی یہ حق ہے مگر ہماری مجلسوں میں آ کر اس کی وجہ سے ہمیں تکلیف نہ دیا کرو۔ جو تمہارے پاس جائے بس اس کو یہ قصے سنا دیا کرو۔ عبداللہ بن رواحہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کیا: ضرور، یا رسول اللہ! آپ ہماری مجلسوں میں بھی تشریف لایا کریں کیونکہ ہم اسے پسند کرتے ہیں۔ اس معاملہ پر مسلمانوں، مشرکوں اور یہودیوں کا جھگڑا ہو گیا اور قریب تھا کہ ایک دوسرے کے خلاف ہاتھ اٹھا دیں۔ لیکن نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم انہیں خاموش کرتے رہے آخر جب سب لوگ خاموش ہو گئے تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنی سواری پر بیٹھے اور روانہ ہوئے۔ جب سعد بن عبادہ کے یہاں پہنچے تو ان سے فرمایا کہ اے سعد! تم نے نہیں سنا آج ابوحباب نے کس طرح باتیں کی ہیں۔ آپ کا اشارہ عبداللہ بن ابی کی طرف تھا کہ اس نے یہ باتیں کہی ہیں سعد بن عبادہ رضی اللہ عنہ بولے، میرا باپ آپ پر صدقے ہو، یا رسول اللہ! آپ اسے معاف فرما دیں اور اس سے درگذر فرمائیں، اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ پر کتاب نازل کی ہے اللہ نے آپ کو سچا کلام دے کر یہاں بھیجا جو آپ پر اتارا۔ آپ کے تشریف لانے سے پہلے اس شہر ( مدینہ منورہ ) کے باشندے اس پر متفق ہو گئے تھے کہ اسے ( عبداللہ بن ابی کو ) شاہی تاج پہنا دیں اور شاہی عمامہ باندھ دیں لیکن اللہ نے سچا کلام دے کر آپ کو یہاں بھیج دیا اور یہ تجویز موقوف رہی تو وہ اس کی وجہ سے چڑ گیا اور جو کچھ آپ نے آج ملاحظہ کیا، وہ اسی جلن کی وجہ سے ہے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عبداللہ بن ابی کو معاف کر دیا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اور آپ کے صحابہ، مشرکین اور اہل کتاب سے جیسا کہ انہیں اللہ تعالیٰ نے حکم دیا تھا۔ درگزر کیا کرتے تھے اور ان کی طرف سے پہنچنے والی تکلیفوں پر صبر کیا کرتے تھے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے بھی ارشاد فرمایا ہے کہ ”تم ان لوگوں سے جنہیں کتاب دی گئی ہے ( اذیت دہ باتیں ) سنو گے۔“ دوسرے موقع پر ارشاد فرمایا ”بہت سے اہل کتاب خواہش رکھتے ہیں۔“ الخ۔ چنانچہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم انہیں معاف کرنے کے لیے اللہ کے حکم کے مطابق توجیہ کیا کرتے تھے۔ بالآخر آپ کو ( جنگ کی ) اجازت دی گئی۔ جب نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے غزوہ بدر کیا اور اللہ کے حکم سے اس میں کفار کے بڑے بڑے بہادر اور قریش کے سردار قتل کئے گئے تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنے صحابہ کے ساتھ فتح مند اور غنیمت کا مال لیے ہوئے واپس ہوئے، ان کے ساتھ کفار قریش کے کتنے ہی بہادر سردار قید بھی کر کے لائے تو اس وقت عبداللہ بن ابی بن سلول اور اس کے بت پرست مشرک ساتھی کہنے لگے کہ اب ان کا کام جم گیا تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے بیعت کر لو، اس وقت انہوں نے اسلام پر بیعت کی اور بظاہر مسلمان ہو گئے ( مگر دل میں نفاق رہا ) ۔

Narrated `Abdullah bin Al-Harith bin Naufal: `Abbas bin `Abdul Muttalib said, O Allah's Apostle! Did you benefit Abu Talib with anything as he used to protect and take care of you, and used to become angry for you? The Prophet said, Yes, he is in a shallow place of Fire. But for me he would have been in the lowest part of the Fire.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Once the Prophet was on one of his journeys, and the driver of the camels started chanting (to let the camels go fast). The Prophet said to him. (Take care) Drive slowly with the glass vessels, O Anjasha! Waihaka (May Allah be Merciful to you).

The Prophet said, O Anjasha, drive slowly (the camels) with the glass vessels! Abu Qilaba said, By the glass vessels' he meant the women (riding the camels).

Narrated `Aisha: Some people asked Allah's Apostle about the fore-tellers. Allah's Apostle said to them, They are nothing (i.e., liars). The people said, 'O Allah's Apostle ! Sometimes they tell something which comes out to be true. Allah's Apostle said, That word which comes to be true is what a jinx snatches away by stealing and then pours it in the ear of his fore-teller with a sound similar to the cackle of a hen, and then they add to it one-hundred lies.
