Narrated Ma'rur: I saw Abu Dhar wearing a Burd (garment) and his slave too was wearing a Burd, so I said (to Abu Dhar), If you take this (Burda of your slave) and wear it (along with yours), you will have a nice suit (costume) and you may give him another garment. Abu Dhar said, There was a quarrel between me and another man whose mother was a non-Arab and I called her bad names. The man mentioned (complained about) me to the Prophet. The Prophet said, Did you abuse so-and-so? I said, Yes He said, Did you call his mother bad names? I said, Yes . He said, You still have the traits of (the Pre-lslamic period of) ignorance. I said. (Do I still have ignorance) even now in my old age? He said, Yes, they (slaves or servants) are your brothers, and Allah has put them under your command. So the one under whose hand Allah has put his brother, should feed him of what he eats, and give him dresses of what he wears, and should not ask him to do a thing beyond his capacity. And if at all he asks him to do a hard task, he should help him therein.

حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الْمَعْرُورِ هُوَ ابْنُ سُوَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ بُرْدًا وَعَلَى غُلَامِهِ بُرْدًا ، فَقُلْتُ : لَوْ أَخَذْتَ هَذَا فَلَبِسْتَهُ كَانَتْ حُلَّةً وَأَعْطَيْتَهُ ثَوْبًا آخَرَ ، فَقَالَ : كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ كَلَامٌ وَكَانَتْ أُمُّهُ أَعْجَمِيَّةً ، فَنِلْتُ مِنْهَا فَذَكَرَنِي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لِي : أَسَابَبْتَ فُلَانًا ؟ قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : أَفَنِلْتَ مِنْ أُمِّهِ ؟ قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : إِنَّكَ امْرُؤٌ فِيكَ جَاهِلِيَّةٌ قُلْتُ عَلَى حِينِ سَاعَتِي : هَذِهِ مِنْ كِبَرِ السِّنِّ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، هُمْ إِخْوَانُكُمْ جَعَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ تَحْتَ أَيْدِيكُمْ ، فَمَنْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ أَخَاهُ تَحْتَ يَدِهِ فَلْيُطْعِمْهُ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ وَلْيُلْبِسْهُ مِمَّا يَلْبَسُ ، وَلَا يُكَلِّفُهُ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا يَغْلِبُهُ ، فَإِنْ كَلَّفَهُ مَا يَغْلِبُهُ فَلْيُعِنْهُ عَلَيْهِ .

مجھ سے عمر بن حفص بن غیاث نے بیان کیا، کہا مجھ سے میرے والد نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے اعمش نے بیان کیا، ان سے معرور نے اور ان سے ابوذر رضی اللہ عنہ نے، معرور نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے ابوذر رضی اللہ عنہ کے جسم پر ایک چادر دیکھی اور ان کے غلام کے جسم پر بھی ایک ویسی ہی چادر تھی، میں نے عرض کیا: اگر اپنے غلام کی چادر لے لیں اور اسے بھی پہن لیں تو ایک رنگ کا جوڑا ہو جائے غلام کو دوسرا کپڑا دے دیں۔ ابوذر رضی اللہ عنہ نے اس پر کہا کہ مجھ میں اور ایک صاحب ( بلال رضی اللہ عنہ ) میں تکرار ہو گئی تھی تو ان کی ماں عجمی تھیں، میں نے اس بارے میں ان کو طعنہ دے دیا انہوں نے جا کر یہ بات نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کہہ دی۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھ سے دریافت فرمایا کیا تم نے اس سے جھگڑا کیا ہے؟ میں نے عرض کیا جی ہاں۔ دریافت کیا تم نے اسے اس کی ماں کی وجہ سے طعنہ دیا ہے؟ میں نے عرض کیا جی ہاں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ تمہارے اندر ابھی جاہلیت کی بو باقی ہے۔ میں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! اس بڑھاپے میں بھی؟ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ ہاں یاد رکھو یہ ( غلام بھی ) تمہارے بھائی ہیں، اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں تمہاری ماتحتی میں دیا ہے، پس اللہ تعالیٰ جس کی ماتحتی میں بھی اس کے بھائی کو رکھے اسے چاہئے کہ جو وہ کھائے اسے بھی کھلائے اور جو وہ پہنے اسے بھی پہنائے اور اسے ایسا کام کرنے کے لیے نہ کہے، جو اس کے بس میں نہ ہو اگر اسے کوئی ایسا کام کرنے کے لیے کہنا ہی پڑے تو اس کام میں اس کی مدد کرے۔

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet led us in the Zuhr prayer, offering only two rak`at and then (finished it) with Taslim, and went to a piece of wood in front of the mosque and put his hand over it. Abu Bakr and `Umar were also present among the people on that day but dared not talk to him (about his unfinished prayer). And the hasty people went away, wondering. Has the prayer been shortened Among the people there was a man whom the Prophet used to call Dhul-Yadain (the longarmed). He said, O Allah's Prophet! Have you forgotten or has the prayer been shortened? The Prophet said, Neither have I forgotten, nor has it been shortened. They (the people) said, Surely, you have forgotten, O Allah's Apostle! The Prophet said, Dhul-Yadain has told the truth. So the Prophet got up and offered other two rak`at and finished his prayer with Taslim. Then he said Takbir, performed a prostration of ordinary duration or longer, then he raised his head and said Takbir and performed another prostration of ordinary duration or longer and then raised his head and said Takbir (i.e. he performed the two prostrations of Sahu, i.e., forgetfulness).

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Allah's Apostle passed by two graves and said, Both of them (persons in the grave) are being tortured, and they are not being tortured for a major sin. This one used not to save himself from being soiled with his urine, and the other used to go about with calumnies (among the people to rouse hostilities, e.g., one goes to a person and tells him that so-and-so says about him such-and-such evil things). The Prophet then asked for a green leaf of a date-palm tree, split it into two pieces and planted one on each grave and said, It is hoped that their punishment may be abated till those two pieces of the leaf get dried. (See Hadith No 215, Vol 1).

Narrated Abu Usaid As-Sa`idi: The Prophet said, The best family among the Ansar is the Banu An-Najjar.

Narrated `Aisha: A man asked permission to enter upon Allah's Apostle. The Prophet said, Admit him. What an evil brother of his people or a son of his people. But when the man entered, the Prophet spoke to him in a very polite manner. (And when that person left) I said, O Allah's Apostle! You had said what you had said, yet you spoke to him in a very polite manner? The Prophet said, O `Aisha! The worst people are those whom the people desert or leave in order to save themselves from their dirty language or from their transgression.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Once the Prophet went through the grave-yards of Medina and heard the voices of two humans who were being tortured in their graves. The Prophet said, They are being punished, but they are not being punished because of a major sin, yet their sins are great. One of them used not to save himself from (being soiled with) the urine, and the other used to go about with calumnies (Namima). Then the Prophet asked for a green palm tree leaf and split it into two pieces and placed one piece on each grave, saying, I hope that their punishment may be abated as long as these pieces of the leaf are not dried.
