Narrated Ibn `Umar: The Prophet said, To get the moustaches cut 'short is characteristic of the Fitra.

حَدَّثَنَا الْمَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ . ح قَالَ أَصْحَابُنَا ، عَنِ الْمَكِّيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : مِنَ الْفِطْرَةِ قَصُّ الشَّارِبِ .

ہم سے مکی بن ابراہیم نے بیان کیا، ان سے حنظلہ بن ابی ہانی نے، ان سے نافع نے بیان کیا، (امام بخاری رحمہ اللہ نے) کہا کہ اس حدیث کو ہمارے اصحاب نے مکی سے روایت کیا، انہوں نے بحوالہ ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”مونچھ کے بال کتروانا پیدائشی سنت ہے۔“

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra: circumcision, shaving the pubic region, clipping the nails and cutting the moustaches short.

Narrated Nafi`: Ibn `Umar said, The Prophet said, 'Do the opposite of what the pagans do. Keep the beards and cut the moustaches short.' Whenever Ibn `Umar performed the Hajj or `Umra, he used to hold his beard with his hand and cut whatever moustaches. Ibn `Umar used to cut his moustache so short that the whiteness of his skin (above the upper lip) was visible, and he used to cut (the hair) between his moustaches and his beard.
