Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: I was with the Prophet and the time for the `Asr prayer became due. We had no water with us except a little which was put in a vessel and was brought to the Prophet . He put his hand into it and spread out his fingers and then said, Come along! Hurry up! All those who want to perform ablution. The blessing is from Allah.'' I saw the water gushing out from his fingers. So the people performed the ablution and drank, and I tried to drink more of that water (beyond my thirst and capacity), for I knew that it was a blessing. The sub-narrator said: I asked Jabir, How many persons were you then? He replied, We were one-thousand four hundred men. Salim said: Jabir said, 1500.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، قَالَ : قَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ حَضَرَتِ الْعَصْرُ وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مَاءٌ غَيْرَ فَضْلَةٍ ، فَجُعِلَ فِي إِنَاءٍ فَأُتِيَ ، النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهِ ، فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فِيهِ وَفَرَّجَ أَصَابِعَهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : حَيَّ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْوُضُوءِ الْبَرَكَةُ مِنَ اللَّهِ ، فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ الْمَاءَ يَتَفَجَّرُ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَصَابِعِهِ ، فَتَوَضَّأَ النَّاسُ وَشَرِبُوا ، فَجَعَلْتُ لَا آلُوا مَا جَعَلْتُ فِي بَطْنِي مِنْهُ فَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ بَرَكَةٌ ، قُلْتُ لِجَابِرٍ : كَمْ كُنْتُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ؟ قَالَ : أَلْفًا وَأَرْبَعَ مِائَةٍ ، تَابَعَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، وَقَالَ حُصَيْنٌ ، وعَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ مِائَةً ، وَتَابَعَهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ .

ہم سے قتیبہ بن سعید نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے جریر نے بیان کیا، ان سے اعمش نے بیان کیا، ان سے سالم بن ابی الجعد نے اور ان سے جابر بن عبداللہ نے بیان کیا کہ میں نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھا اور عصر کی نماز کا وقت ہو گیا تھوڑے سے بچے ہوئے پانی کے سوا ہمارے پاس اور کوئی پانی نہیں تھا اسے ایک برتن میں رکھ کر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں لایا گیا نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس میں اپنا ہاتھ ڈالا اور اپنی انگلیاں پھیلا دیں پھر فرمایا آؤ وضو کر لو یہ اللہ کی طرف سے برکت ہے۔ میں نے دیکھا کہ پانی نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی انگلیوں کے درمیان سے پھوٹ پھوٹ کر نکل رہا تھا چنانچہ سب لوگوں نے اس سے وضو کیا اور پیا بھی۔ میں نے اس کی پرواہ کئے بغیر کہ پیٹ میں کتنا پانی جا رہا ہے خوب پانی پیا کیونکہ مجھے معلوم ہو گیا تھا کہ برکت کا پانی ہے۔ میں نے جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا آپ لوگ اس وقت کتنی تعداد میں تھے؟ بتلایا کہ ایک ہزار چار سو۔ اس روایت کی متابعت عمرو نے جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کی ہے اور حسین اور عمرو بن مرہ نے سالم سے بیان کیا اور ان سے جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ صحابہ کی اس وقت تعداد پندرہ سو تھی۔ اس کی متابعت سعید بن مسیب نے جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کی ہے۔

Narrated `Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah's Apostle said, No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn.

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri and Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.

Narrated Ka`b: The Prophet said, The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant, which the wind bends lt sometimes and some other time it makes it straight. And the example of a hypocrite is that of a pine tree which keeps straight till once it is uprooted suddenly.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it, but when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his difficulties.) And an impious wicked person is like a pine tree which keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He wishes. (See Hadith No. 558, Vol. 9.)
