Narrated Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) The commencement (of the Divine Inspiration) to Allah's Messenger was in the form of true dreams in his sleep, for he never had a dream but it turned out to be true and clear as the bright daylight. Then he began to like seclusions, so he used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship Allah continuously for many nights before going back to his family to take the necessary provision (of food) for the stay. He come back to (his wife) Khadija again to take his provision (of food) likewise, till one day he received the Guidance while he was in the cave of Hira. An Angel came to him and asked him to read. Allah's Messenger replied, I do not know how to read. The Prophet added, Then the Angel held me (forcibly) and pressed me so hard that I felt distressed. Then he released me and again asked me to read, and I replied, 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he held me again and pressed me for the second time till I felt distressed. He then released me and asked me to read, but again I replied. 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he held me for the third time and pressed me till I got distressed, and then he released me and said, 'Read, in the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists), has created man out of a clot, Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous. Who has taught (the writing) by the pen, has taught man that which he knew not. (96.1-5). Then Allah's Messenger returned with that experience; and the muscles between his neck and shoulders were trembling till he came upon Khadija (his wife) and said, Cover me! They covered him, and when the state of fear was over, he said to Khadija, O Khadija! What is wrong with me? I was afraid that something bad might happen to me. Then he told her the story. Khadija said, Nay! But receive the good tidings! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you, for by Allah, you keep good relations with your Kith and kin, speak the truth, help the poor and the destitute, entertain your guests generously and assist those who are stricken with calamities. Khadija then took him to Waraqa bin Naufil, the son of Khadija's paternal uncle. Waraqa had been converted to Christianity in the Pre-lslamic Period and used to write Arabic and write of the Gospel in Arabic as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadija said (to Waraqa), O my cousin! Listen to what your nephew is going to say. Waraqa said, O my nephew! What have you seen? The Prophet then described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said, This is the same Angel (Gabriel) who was sent to Moses. I wish I were young. He added some other statement. Allah's Messenger asked, Will these people drive me out? Waraqa said, Yes, for nobody brought the like of what you have brought, but was treated with hostility. If I were to remain alive till your day (when you start preaching). then I would support you strongly. But a short while later Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was paused (stopped) for a while so that Allah's Messenger was very much grieved. Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: While Allah's Messenger was talking about the period of pause in revelation. he said in his narration. Once while I was walking, all of a sudden I heard a voice from the sky. I looked up and saw to my surprise, the same Angel as had visited me in the cave of Hira.' He was sitting on a chair between the sky and the earth. I got afraid of him and came back home and said, Wrap me! Wrap me! So they covered him and then Allah revealed: 'O you, wrapped up! Arise and warn and your Lord magnify, and your garments purify and dessert the idols.' (74.1-5) Abu Salama said, (Rijz) are the idols which the people of the Pre-lslamic period used to worship. After this the revelation started coming frequently and regularly.
باب حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي رِزْمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ سَلْمَوَيْهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، أَنَّ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ أَوَّلَ مَا بُدِئَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرُّؤْيَا الصَّادِقَةُ فِي النَّوْمِ ، فَكَانَ لَا يَرَى رُؤْيَا إِلَّا جَاءَتْ مِثْلَ فَلَقِ الصُّبْحِ ، ثُمَّ حُبِّبَ إِلَيْهِ الْخَلَاءُ ، فَكَانَ يَلْحَقُ بِغَارِ حِرَاءٍ ، فَيَتَحَنَّثُ فِيهِ ، قَالَ : وَالتَّحَنُّثُ التَّعَبُّدُ اللَّيَالِيَ ذَوَاتِ الْعَدَدِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ وَيَتَزَوَّدُ لِذَلِكَ ، ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ إِلَى خَدِيجَةَ فَيَتَزَوَّدُ بِمِثْلِهَا ، حَتَّى فَجِئَهُ الْحَقُّ وَهُوَ فِي غَارِ حِرَاءٍ ، فَجَاءَهُ الْمَلَكُ ، فَقَالَ : اقْرَأْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا أَنَا بِقَارِئٍ ، قَالَ : فَأَخَذَنِي فَغَطَّنِي حَتَّى بَلَغَ مِنِّي الْجُهْدَ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَنِي ، فَقَالَ : اقْرَأْ ، قُلْتُ : مَا أَنَا بِقَارِئٍ ، فَأَخَذَنِي فَغَطَّنِي الثَّانِيَةَ حَتَّى بَلَغَ مِنِّي الْجُهْدَ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَنِي ، فَقَالَ : اقْرَأْ ، قُلْتُ : مَا أَنَا بِقَارِئٍ ، فَأَخَذَنِي فَغَطَّنِي الثَّالِثَةَ حَتَّى بَلَغَ مِنِّي الْجُهْدَ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَنِي ، فَقَالَ : اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ { 1 } خَلَقَ الإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ { 2 } اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الأَكْرَمُ { 3 } الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ { 4 } الْآيَاتِ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ عَلَّمَ الإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ سورة العلق آية 1 - 5 ، فَرَجَعَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَرْجُفُ بَوَادِرُهُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ ، فَقَالَ : زَمِّلُونِي زَمِّلُونِي ، فَزَمَّلُوهُ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ عَنْهُ الرَّوْعُ ، قَالَ لِخَدِيجَةَ : أَيْ خَدِيجَةُ ، مَا لِي لَقَدْ خَشِيتُ عَلَى نَفْسِي ، فَأَخْبَرَهَا الْخَبَرَ ، قَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ : كَلَّا أَبْشِرْ ، فَوَاللَّهِ لَا يُخْزِيكَ اللَّهُ أَبَدًا ، فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَتَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ ، وَتَصْدُقُ الْحَدِيثَ ، وَتَحْمِلُ الْكَلَّ ، وَتَكْسِبُ الْمَعْدُومَ ، وَتَقْرِي الضَّيْفَ ، وَتُعِينُ عَلَى نَوَائِبِ الْحَقِّ ، فَانْطَلَقَتْ بِهِ خَدِيجَةُ حَتَّى أَتَتْ بِهِ وَرَقَةَ بْنَ نَوْفَلٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَمِّ خَدِيجَةَ أَخِي أَبِيهَا ، وَكَانَ امْرَأً تَنَصَّرَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، وَكَانَ يَكْتُبُ الْكِتَابَ الْعَرَبِيَّ ، وَيَكْتُبُ مِنَ الْإِنْجِيلِ بِالْعَرَبِيَّةِ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ وَكَانَ شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا قَدْ عَمِيَ ، فَقَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ : يَا ابْنَ عَمِّ ، اسْمَعْ مِنَ ابْنِ أَخِيكَ ، قَالَ وَرَقَةُ : يَا ابْنَ أَخِي ، مَاذَا تَرَى ؟ فَأَخْبَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَبَرَ مَا رَأَى ، فَقَالَ وَرَقَةُ : هَذَا النَّامُوسُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ عَلَى مُوسَى لَيْتَنِي فِيهَا جَذَعًا لَيْتَنِي أَكُونُ حَيًّا ذَكَرَ حَرْفًا ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَوَمُخْرِجِيَّ هُمْ ؟ قَالَ وَرَقَةُ: نَعَمْ لَمْ يَأْتِ رَجُلٌ بِمَا جِئْتَ بِهِ إِلَّا أُوذِيَ ، وَإِنْ يُدْرِكْنِي يَوْمُكَ حَيًّا أَنْصُرْكَ نَصْرًا مُؤَزَّرًا ، ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنْشَبْ وَرَقَةُ أَنْ تُوُفِّيَ وَفَتَرَ الْوَحْيُ فَتْرَةً حَتَّى حَزِنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
ہم سے یحییٰ بن بکیر نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے لیث بن سعد نے بیان کیا، ان سے عقیل نے، ان سے ابن شہاب نے (دوسری سند) امام بخاری رحمہ اللہ نے کہا اور مجھ سے سعید بن مروان نے بیان کیا اور ان سے محمد بن عبدالعزیز بن ابی رزمہ نے، انہیں ابوصالح سلمویہ نے خبر دی، کہا کہ مجھ سے عبداللہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے یونس بن یزید نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھے ابن شہاب نے خبر دی انہیں عروہ بن زبیر نے خبر دی اور ان سے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی پاک بیوی عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے بیان کیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو نبوت سے پہلے سچے خواب دکھائے جاتے تھے چنانچہ اس دور میں آپ جو خواب بھی دیکھ لیتے وہ صبح کی روشنی کی طرح بیداری میں نمودار ہوتا۔ پھر آپ کو تنہائی بھلی لگنے لگی۔ اس دور میں آپ غار حرا تنہا تشریف لے جاتے اور آپ وہاں «تحنث» کیا کرتے تھے۔ عروہ نے کہا کہ «تحنث» سے عبادت مراد ہے۔ آپ وہاں کئی کئی راتیں جاگتے، گھر میں نہ آتے اور اس کے لیے اپنے گھر سے توشہ لے جایا کرتے تھے۔ پھر جب توشہ ختم ہو جاتا پھر خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے یہاں لوٹ کر تشریف لاتے اور اتنا ہی توشہ پھر لے جاتے۔ اسی حال میں آپ غار حرا میں تھے کہ دفعتاً آپ پر وحی نازل ہوئی چنانچہ فرشتہ آپ کے پاس آیا اور کہا پڑھئیے! نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ میں پڑھا ہوا نہیں ہوں۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے بیان کیا کہ مجھے فرشتہ نے پکڑ لیا اور اتنا بھینچا کہ میں بےطاقت ہو گیا پھر انہوں نے مجھے چھوڑ دیا اور کہا کہ پڑھئیے! میں نے کہا کہ میں پڑھا ہوا نہیں ہوں۔ انہوں نے پھر دوسری مرتبہ مجھے پکڑ کر اس طرح بھینچا کہ میں بےطاقت ہو گیا اور چھوڑنے کے بعد کہا کہ پڑھئیے! میں نے اس مرتبہ بھی یہی کہا کہ میں پڑھا ہوا نہیں ہوں۔ انہوں نے تیسری مرتبہ پھر اسی طرح مجھے پکڑ کر بھینچا کہ میں بےطاقت ہو گیا اور کہا کہ پڑھئیے! پڑھئیے! «اقرأ باسم ربك الذي خلق * خلق الإنسان من علق * اقرأ وربك الأكرم * الذي علم بالقلم» ”اپنے پروردگار کے نام کے ساتھ جس نے سب کو پیدا کیا، جس نے انسان کو خون کے لوتھڑے سے پیدا کیا ہے، آپ پڑھئیے اور آپ کا رب کریم ہے، جس نے قلم کے ذریعے تعلیم دی ہے“ سے آیت «علم الإنسان ما لم يعلم» تک۔ پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ان پانچ آیات کو لے کر واپس گھر تشریف لائے اور گھبراہٹ سے آپ کے مونڈھے اور گردن کا گوشت پھڑک ( حرکت کر ) رہا تھا۔ آپ نے خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس پہنچ کر فرمایا کہ مجھے چادر اڑھا دو! مجھے چادر اڑھا دو! چنانچہ انہوں نے آپ کو چادر اڑھا دی۔ جب گھبراہٹ آپ سے دور ہوئی تو آپ نے خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کہا اب کیا ہو گا مجھے تو اپنی جان کا ڈر ہو گیا ہے پھر آپ نے سارا واقعہ انہیں سنایا۔ خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا ایسا ہرگز نہ ہو گا، آپ کو خوشخبری ہو، اللہ کی قسم! اللہ آپ کو کبھی رسوا نہیں کرے گا۔ اللہ کی قسم! آپ تو صلہ رحمی کرنے والے ہیں، آپ ہمیشہ سچ بولتے ہیں، آپ کمزور و ناتواں کا بوجھ خود اٹھا لیتے ہیں، جنہیں کہیں سے کچھ نہیں ملتا وہ آپ کے یہاں سے پا لیتے ہیں۔ آپ مہمان نواز ہیں اور حق کے راستے میں پیش آنے والی مصیبتوں پر لوگوں کی مدد کرتے ہیں۔ پھر خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو لے کر ورقہ بن نوفل کے پاس آئیں وہ خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے چچا اور آپ کے والد کے بھائی تھے وہ زمانہ جاہلیت میں نصرانی ہو گئے تھے اور عربی لکھ لیتے تھے جس طرح اللہ نے چاہا انہوں نے انجیل بھی عربی میں لکھی تھی۔ وہ بہت بوڑھے تھے اور نابینا ہو گئے تھے۔ خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے ان سے کہا چچا اپنے بھتیجے کا حال سنئیے۔ ورقہ نے کہا بیٹے! تم نے کیا دیکھا ہے؟ آپ نے سارا حال سنایا جو کچھ آپ نے دیکھا تھا۔ اس پر ورقہ نے کہا یہی وہ ناموس ( جبرائیل علیہ السلام ) ہیں جو موسیٰ علیہ السلام کے پاس آتے تھے۔ کاش میں تمہاری نبوت کے زمانہ میں جوان اور طاقتور ہوتا۔ کاش میں اس وقت تک زندہ رہ جاتا، پھر ورقہ نے کچھ اور کہا کہ جب آپ کی قوم آپ کو مکہ سے نکالے گی۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا کیا واقعی یہ لوگ مجھے مکہ سے نکال دیں گے؟ ورقہ نے کہا ہاں، جو دعوت آپ لے کر آئے ہیں اسے جو بھی لے کر آیا تو اس سے عداوت ضرور کی گئی۔ اگر میں آپ کی نبوت کے زمانہ میں زندہ رہ گیا تو میں ضرور بھرپور طریقہ پر آپ کا ساتھ دوں گا۔ اس کے بعد ورقہ کا انتقال ہو گیا اور کچھ دنوں کے لیے وحی کا آنا بھی بند ہو گیا۔ آپ وحی کے بند ہو جانے کی وجہ سے غمگین رہنے لگے۔
