Narrated Aslam: While Allah's Messenger was proceeding at night during one of his journeys and `Umar bin Al-Khattab was traveling beside him, `Umar asked him about something but Allah's Messenger did not reply. He asked again, but he did not reply, and then he asked (for the third time) but he did not reply. On that, `Umar bin Al-Khattab said to himself, Thakilat Ummu `Umar (May `Umar's mother lose her son)! I asked Allah's Messenger three times but he did not reply. `Umar then said, I made my camel run faster and went ahead of the people, and I was afraid that some Qur'anic Verses might be revealed about me. But before getting involved in any other matter. I heard somebody calling me. I said to myself, 'I fear that some Qur'anic Verses have been revealed about me,' and so I went to Allah's Messenger and greeted him. He (Allah's Messenger ) said, 'Tonight a Sura has been revealed to me, and it is dearer to me than that on which the sun rises (i.e. the world)' Then he recited: Verily, We have given you a manifest victory. (48.1)

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَسِيرُ مَعَهُ لَيْلًا ، فَسَأَلَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ شَيْءٍ ، فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ ، فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ ، ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ ، فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ : ثَكِلَتْ أُمُّ عُمَرَ نَزَرْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ كُلَّ ذَلِكَ لَا يُجِيبُكَ ، قَالَ عُمَرُ : فَحَرَّكْتُ بَعِيرِي ، ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمْتُ أَمَامَ النَّاسِ وَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يُنْزَلَ فِيَّ قُرْآنٌ ، فَمَا نَشِبْتُ أَنْ سَمِعْتُ صَارِخًا يَصْرُخُ بِي ، فَقُلْتُ : لَقَدْ خَشِيتُ أَنْ يَكُونَ نَزَلَ فِيَّ قُرْآنٌ ، فَجِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : لَقَدْ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيَّ اللَّيْلَةَ سُورَةٌ لَهِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ : إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا سورة الفتح آية 1 .

ہم سے عبداللہ بن مسلمہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے امام مالک نے، ان سے زید بن اسلم نے، ان سے ان کے والد نے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک سفر میں جا رہے تھے۔ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ بھی آپ کے ساتھ تھے۔ رات کا وقت تھا عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے سوال کیا لیکن نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کوئی جواب نہیں دیا۔ پھر انہوں نے سوال کیا اور اس مرتبہ بھی آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے جواب نہیں دیا، تیسری مرتبہ بھی انہوں نے سوال کیا لیکن آپ نے جواب نہیں دیا۔ اس پر عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا، عمر کی ماں اسے روئے! نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے تم نے تین مرتبہ سوال میں اصرار کیا، لیکن نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تمہیں کسی مرتبہ جواب نہیں دیا۔ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ پھر میں نے اپنے اونٹ کو حرکت دی اور لوگوں سے آگے بڑھ گیا۔ مجھے خوف تھا کہ کہیں میرے بارے میں قرآن مجید کی کوئی آیت نہ نازل ہو۔ ابھی تھوڑی ہی دیر ہوئی تھی کہ ایک پکارنے والے کی آواز میں نے سنی جو مجھے ہی پکار رہا تھا۔ میں نے کہا کہ مجھے تو خوف تھا ہی کہ میرے بارے میں کوئی آیت نہ نازل ہو جائے۔ میں نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور سلام کیا، نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ مجھ پر آج رات ایک سورت نازل ہوئی ہے جو مجھے اس ساری کائنات سے زیادہ عزیز ہے جس پر سورج طلوع ہوتا ہے پھر آپ نے سورۃ الفتح کی تلاوت فرمائی۔

Narrated `Abdullah bin Mughaffal: On the Day of the Conquest of Mecca, the Prophet recited Surat Al-Fath in a vibrating and pleasant voice. (Muawaiya, the subnarrator said, If I could imitate the recitation of the Prophet I would do so. )

Narrated Al-Mughira: The Prophet used to offer night prayers till his feet became swollen. Somebody said, to him, Allah has forgiven you, your faults of the past and those to follow. On that, he said, Shouldn't I be a thankful slave of Allah)?

Narrated Aisha: The Prophet used to offer prayer at night (for such a long time) that his feet used to crack. I said, O Allah's Messenger ! Why do you do it since Allah has forgiven you your faults of the past and those to follow? He said, Shouldn't I love to be a thankful slave (of Allah)?' When he became old, he prayed while sitting, but if he wanted to perform a bowing, he wound get up, recite (some other verses) and then perform the bowing.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-As: This Verse: 'Verily We have sent you (O Muhammad) as a witness, as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner.' (48.8) which is in the Qur'an, appears in the Torah thus: 'Verily We have sent you (O Muhammad) as a witness, as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner, and as a protector for the illiterates (i.e., the Arabs.) You are my slave and My Apostle, and I have named you Al-Mutawakkil (one who depends upon Allah). You are neither hard-hearted nor of fierce character, nor one who shouts in the markets. You do not return evil for evil, but excuse and forgive. Allah will not take you unto Him till He guides through you a crocked (curved) nation on the right path by causing them to say: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. With such a statement He will cause to open blind eyes, deaf ears and hardened hearts.'

Narrated Al-Bara: While a man from the companions of the Prophet was reciting (Qur'an) and his horse was tied in the house, the horse got startled and started jumping. The man came out, looked around but could not find anything, yet the horse went on jumping. The next morning he mentioned that to the Prophet. The Prophet said, That was the tranquility (calmness) which descended because of the recitation of the Qur'an.
