Narrated Anas: `Abdullah bin Salam heard the news of the arrival of Allah's Messenger (at Medina) while he was on a farm collecting its fruits. So he came to the Prophet and said, I will ask you about three things which nobody knows unless he be a prophet. Firstly, what is the first portent of the Hour? What is the first meal of the people of Paradise? And what makes a baby look like its father or mother?'. The Prophet said, Just now Gabriel has informed me about that. `Abdullah said, Gabriel? The Prophet said, Yes. `Abdullah said, He, among the angels is the enemy of the Jews. On that the Prophet recited this Holy Verse:-- Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel (let him die in his fury!) for he has brought it (i.e. Qur'an) down to your heart by Allah's permission. (2.97) Then he added, As for the first portent of the Hour, it will be a fire that will collect the people from the East to West. And as for the first meal of the people of Paradise, it will be the caudite (i.e. extra) lobe of the fish liver. And if a man's discharge proceeded that of the woman, then the child resembles the father, and if the woman's discharge proceeded that of the man, then the child resembles the mother. On hearing that, `Abdullah said, I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and that you are the Apostle of Allah, O, Allah's Messenger ; the Jews are liars, and if they should come to know that I have embraced Islam, they would accuse me of being a liar. In the meantime some Jews came (to the Prophet) and he asked them, What is `Abdullah's status amongst you? They replied, He is the best amongst us, and he is our chief and the son of our chief. The Prophet said, What would you think if `Abdullah bin Salam embraced Islam? They replied, May Allah protect him from this! Then `Abdullah came out and said, I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah. The Jews then said, Abdullah is the worst of us and the son of the worst of us, and disparaged him. On that `Abdullah said, O Allah's Messenger ! This is what I was afraid of!

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُنِيرٍ , سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ بَكْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ , عَنْ أَنَسٍ , قَالَ : سَمِعَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ , بِقُدُوم رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهْوَ فِي أَرْضٍ يَخْتَرِفُ ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : إِنِّي سَائِلُكَ عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ لَا يَعْلَمُهُنَّ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ فَمَا أَوَّلُ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ ؟ وَمَا أَوَّلُ طَعَامِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ؟ وَمَا يَنْزِعُ الْوَلَدُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ أَوْ إِلَى أُمِّهِ ؟ قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي بِهِنَّ جِبْرِيلُ آنِفًا , قَالَ : جِبْرِيلُ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : ذَاكَ عَدُوُّ الْيَهُودِ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ ، فَقَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِجِبْرِيلَ فَإِنَّهُ نَزَّلَهُ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ سورة البقرة آية 97 أَمَّا أَوَّلُ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ ، فَنَارٌ تَحْشُرُ النَّاسَ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ ، وَأَمَّا أَوَّلُ طَعَامٍ يَأْكُلُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ ، فَزِيَادَةُ كَبِدِ حُوتٍ ، وَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ مَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ نَزَعَ الْوَلَدَ ، وَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ نَزَعَتْ ، قَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ , يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ قَوْمٌ بُهُتٌ ، وَإِنَّهُمْ إِنْ يَعْلَمُوا بِإِسْلَامِي قَبْلَ أَنْ تَسْأَلَهُمْ يَبْهَتُونِي ، فَجَاءَتْ الْيَهُودُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيُّ رَجُلٍ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ فِيكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا : خَيْرُنَا وَابْنُ خَيْرِنَا ، وَسَيِّدُنَا وَابْنُ سَيِّدِنَا ، قَالَ : أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَسْلَمَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ ؟ فَقَالُوا : أَعَاذَهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَخَرَجَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالُوا : شَرُّنَا وَابْنُ شَرِّنَا وَانْتَقَصُوهُ ، قَالَ : فَهَذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَخَافُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ .

ہم سے عبداللہ بن منیر نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے عبداللہ بن بکر سے سنا، اس نے کہا کہ مجھ سے حمید نے اور ان سے انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ جب عبداللہ بن سلام رضی اللہ عنہ ( جو یہود کے بڑے عالم تھے ) نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ( مدینہ ) تشریف لانے کی خبر سنی تو وہ اپنے باغ میں پھل توڑ رہے تھے۔ وہ اسی وقت نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئے اور عرض کیا کہ میں آپ سے ایسی تین چیزوں کے متعلق پوچھتا ہوں، جنہیں نبی کے سوا اور کوئی نہیں جانتا۔ بتلائیے! قیامت کی نشانیوں میں سب سے پہلی نشانی کیا ہے؟ اہل جنت کی دعوت کے لیے سب سے پہلے کیا چیز پیش کی جائے گی؟ بچہ کب اپنے باپ کی صورت میں ہو گا اور کب اپنی ماں کی صورت پر؟ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ مجھے ابھی جبرائیل نے آ کر ان کے متعلق بتایا ہے۔ عبداللہ بن سلام بولے جبرائیل علیہ السلام نے! فرمایا: ہاں، عبداللہ بن سلام نے کہا کہ وہ تو یہودیوں کے دشمن ہیں۔ اس پر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے یہ آیت تلاوت کی «من كان عدوا لجبريل فإنه نزله على قلبك‏» اور ان کے سوالات کے جواب میں فرمایا، قیامت کی سب سے پہلی نشانی ایک آگ ہو گی جو انسانوں کو مشرق سے مغرب کی طرف جمع کر لائے گی۔ اہل جنت کی دعوت میں جو کھانا سب سے پہلے پیش کیا جائے گا وہ مچھلی کے جگر کا بڑھا ہوا حصہ ہو گا اور جب مرد کا پانی عورت کے پانی پر غلبہ کر جاتا ہے تو بچہ باپ کی شکل پر ہوتا ہے اور جب عورت کا پانی مرد کے پانی پر غلبہ کر جاتا ہے تو بچہ ماں کی شکل پر ہوتا ہے۔ عبداللہ بن سلام رضی اللہ عنہ بول اٹھے «أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله،‏‏‏‏ وأشهد أنك رسول الله‏.‏» ”میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ آپ اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔“ ( پھر عرض کیا ) یا رسول اللہ! یہودی بڑی بہتان باز قوم ہے، اگر اس سے پہلے کہ آپ میرے متعلق ان سے کچھ پوچھیں، انہیں میرے اسلام کا پتہ چل گیا تو مجھ پر بہتان تراشیاں شروع کر دیں گے۔ بعد میں جب یہودی آئے تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دریافت فرمایا کہ عبداللہ تمہارے یہاں کیسے آدمی سمجھے جاتے ہیں؟ وہ کہنے لگے، ہم میں سب سے بہتر اور ہم میں سب سے بہتر کے بیٹے! ہمارے سردار اور ہمارے سردار کے بیٹے ہیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اگر وہ اسلام لے آئیں پھر تمہارا کیا خیال ہو گا؟ کہنے لگے، اللہ تعالیٰ اس سے انہیں پناہ میں رکھے۔ اتنے میں عبداللہ بن سلام رضی اللہ عنہ نے ظاہر ہو کر کہا «أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله،‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ وأن محمدا رسول الله‏.‏» کہ ”میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا اور کوئی معبود نہیں اور گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ محمد اللہ کے سچے رسول ہیں۔“ اب وہی یہودی ان کے بارے میں کہنے لگے کہ یہ ہم میں سب سے بدتر ہے اور سب سے بدتر شخص کا بیٹا ہے اور ان کی توہین شروع کر دی۔ عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: یا رسول اللہ! یہی وہ چیز تھی جس سے میں ڈرتا تھا۔

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: `Umar said, Our best Qur'an reciter is Ubai and our best judge is `Ali; and in spite of this, we leave some of the statements of Ubai because Ubai says, 'I do not leave anything that I have heard from Allah's Messenger while Allah: Whatever verse (Revelations) do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten but We bring a better one or similar to it. (2.106)

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet said, Allah said, 'The son of Adam tells a lie against me though he has no right to do so, and he abuses Me though he has no right to do so. As for his telling a lie against Me, it is that he claims that I cannot recreate him as I created him before; and as for his abusing Me, it is his statement that I have offspring. No! Glorified be Me! I am far from taking a wife or offspring.'

Narrated Anas: `Umar said, I agreed with Allah in three things, or said, My Lord agreed with me in three things. I said, 'O Allah's Messenger ! Would that you took the station of Abraham as a place of prayer.' I also said, 'O Allah's Messenger ! Good and bad persons visit you! Would that you ordered the Mothers of the believers to cover themselves with veils.' So the Divine Verses of Al-Hijab (i.e. veiling of the women) were revealed. I came to know that the Prophet had blamed some of his wives so I entered upon them and said, 'You should either stop (troubling the Prophet ) or else Allah will give His Apostle better wives than you.' When I came to one of his wives, she said to me, 'O `Umar! Does Allah's Messenger haven't what he could advise his wives with, that you try to advise them?' Thereupon Allah revealed:-- It may be, if he divorced you (all) his Lord will give him instead of you, wives better than you Muslims (who submit to Allah).. (66.5)

Narrated `Aisha: (The wife of the Prophet) Allah's Messenger said, Don't you see that when your people built the Ka`ba, they did not build it on all Abraham's foundations? I said, O Allah's Messenger ! Why don't you rebuild it on Abraham's foundations? He said, Were your people not so close to (the period of Heathenism, i.e. the Period between their being Muslims and being infidels), I would do so. The sub-narrator, `Abdullah bin `Umar said, Aisha had surely heard Allah's Messenger saying that, for I do not think that Allah's Messenger left touching the two corners of the Ka`ba facing Al-Hijr except because the Ka`ba was not built on all Abraham's foundations.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The people of the Scripture (Jews) used to recite the Torah in Hebrew and they used to explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. On that Allah's Messenger said, Do not believe the people of the Scripture or disbelieve them, but say:-- We believe in Allah and what is revealed to us. (2.136)

Narrated Al-Bara: The Prophet prayed facing Bait-ulMaqdis (i.e. Jerusalem) for sixteen or seventeen months but he wished that his Qibla would be the Ka`ba (at Mecca). (So Allah Revealed (2.144) and he offered `Asr prayers(in his Mosque facing Ka`ba at Mecca) and some people prayed with him. A man from among those who had prayed with him, went out and passed by some people offering prayer in another mosque, and they were in the state of bowing. He said, I, (swearing by Allah,) testify that I have prayed with the Prophet facing Mecca. Hearing that, they turned their faces to the Ka`ba while they were still bowing. Some men had died before the Qibla was changed towards the Ka`ba. They had been killed and we did not know what to say about them (i.e. whether their prayers towards Jerusalem were accepted or not). So Allah revealed:-- And Allah would never make your faith (i.e. prayer) to be lost (i.e. your prayers offered (towards Jerusalem). Truly Allah is Full of Pity, Most Merciful towards mankind. (2.143)
