Narrated Qatada: I said to Sa`id bin Al-Musaiyab, I have been informed that Jabir bin `Abdullah said that the number (of Al-Hudaibiya Muslim warriors) was 1400. Sa`id said to me, Jabir narrated to me that they were 1500 who gave the Pledge of allegiance to the Prophet on the day of Al-Hudaibiya.'

حَدَّثَنَا الصَّلْتُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ , عَنْ سَعِيدٍ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ , قُلْتُ لِسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ , بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , كَانَ يَقُولُ : كَانُوا أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ مِائَةً , فَقَالَ لِي سَعِيدٌ : حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرٌ : كَانُوا خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ مِائَةً الَّذِينَ بَايَعُوا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ . تَابَعَهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ , حَدَّثَنَا قُرَّةُ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ .

ہم سے صلت بن محمد نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے یزید بن زریع نے بیان کیا، ان سے سعید بن ابی عروبہ نے، ان سے قتادہ نے کہ میں نے سعید بن مسیب سے پوچھا ‘ مجھے معلوم ہوا ہے کہ جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کہا کرتے تھے کہ ( حدیبیہ کی صلح کے موقع پر ) صحابہ کی تعداد چودہ سو تھی۔ اس پر سعید بن مسیب نے بیان کیا کہ مجھ سے جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے یہ کہا تھا اس موقع پر پندرہ سو صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم موجود تھے۔ جنہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے حدیبیہ میں بیعت کی تھی۔ ابوداؤد طیالسی نے بیان کیا، ہم سے قرۃ بن خالد نے بیان کیا، ان سے قتادہ نے اور محمد بن بشار نے بھی ابوداؤد طیالسی کے ساتھ اس کو روایت کیا ہے۔

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: On the day of Al-Hudaibiya, Allah's Apostle said to us' You are the best people on the earth! We were 1400 then. If I could see now, I would have shown you the place of the Tree (beneath which we gave thePledge of Allegiance). Salim said, Our number was 1400.

`Abdullah bin Abi `Aufa said, The people (who gave the Pledge of allegiance) under the Tree numbered 1300 and the number of Bani Aslam was 1/8 of the Emigrants.

Narrated Mirdas Al-Aslami: Who was among those (who had given the Pledge of allegiance) under the Tree: Pious people will die in succession, and there will remain the dregs of society who will be like the useless residues of dates and barley and Allah will pay no attention to them.

Narrated Marwan and Al-Miswar bin Makhrama: The Prophet went out in the company of 1300 to 1500 of his companions in the year of Al-Hudaibiya, and when they reached Dhul-Hulaifa, he garlanded and marked his Hadi and assumed the state of Ihram.

Narrated Ka`b bin Ujra: That Allah's Apostle saw him with the lice falling (from his head) on his face. Allah's Apostle said, Are your lice troubling you? Ka`b said, Yes. Allah's Apostle thus ordered him to shave his head while he was at Al-Hudaibiya. Up to then there was no indication that all of them would finish their state of Ihram and they hoped that they would enter Mecca. Then the order of Al-Fidya was revealed, so Allah's Apostle ordered Ka`b to feed six poor persons with one Faraq of food or slaughter a sheep or fast for three days.
